FRIDAY POSBANG

Submitted by Joseph_P_Freshwater on

It's Friday, which means we only have to fake 8 more hours of work until the weekend.  You're all invited to my birthday party this weekend.  They're will be subs.  It will be crazy.

Neighborhood buddies and I are doing beer night tonight.

Brats, homemade soft pretzels, a shitload of beer, and poker.  I love Fridays!

A few factors have gone into it:

We are all relatively new arrivals to Nashville, within the last two years, and all of us are pretty outgoing.  We all have kids around the same age who get along and our wives are friends as well, so when we all said we wanted to do "Guys night" hangouts once every couple months or so, the wives were all for it as they usually do a competing "Girl's night"(and they watch the kids) at the same time.  Between scouts, sports, etc. our kids are in similar activities so we see each other quite a bit as a matter of course.  I think the biggest thing is being in a situation in which everyone is new to the area and you have to make friends or be pretty isolated, when thats the choice it's not much of a choice at all.

Finally, they're all friendly, outgoing, funny dudes who are fun to be around and luckily they let me hang out with them as well.

My neighborhood in Saline was a similar vibe as it was relatively new and so most of the families there had moved to the neighborhood recently.  It makes you reach out a little bit more.  Whenever I've been in more established neighborhoods it's harder to make that breakthrough.

Hope that helps.

So tonight my neighborhood buddies and I were executing the beer night. One of them has a golf cart and we were planning on doing the beer night down at a clearing by the Harpeth river in the neighborhood. It was a German theme and so our buddy with the golf cart picked us up at a house on top of a steep hill. He started playing a polka song to fit with the Bavarian theme and we all loaded up and started driving down the hill. A little ways down the hill we all realized the brakes no longer worked. So we started careening down the hill in a runaway golf cart full of beer blaring a polka song and trying to plot the best way to jump out of it if it came to that. All ended well but if anyone is writing the script for The Hangover 4, do I have the scene for you.

Anyone else heading to the A2 Greek Festival? We'll be there early tomorrow (when there is still good food left) for lunch and maybe a Greek Pop or two. Then we'll head to the pool later in the day.
