Penn State announces annual 'White Out' planned vs. Michigan on October 21st
No surprises here, confirming what we all were expecting.
Michigan is 2-2 in White Out games at Beaver Stadium, with victories in 2006 and 2015 and losses in 2010 and 2013. Overall, Michigan owns a 6-4 record at Penn State, and a 13-7 record in the overall series.
For all intents and purposes, it seems as though Penn State will perptually use their White Outs on Ohio State in even numbered years and Michigan in odd numbered years. Penn State has not hosted a team other than Michigan or Ohio State for the White Out since 2011, vs. Alabama. (However, in 2011 neither Michigan or Ohio State traveled to Happy Valley. You have to go all the way back to 2009 for a time when PSU selected another team INSTEAD of UM/OSU (when they picked Iowa over Ohio State)).
Including this upcoming season, Michigan will have played in more White Outs than any other team. By team:
- Michigan: 5 (including 2017)
- Ohio State: 4 (Buckeyes also have a 2-2 record in these games)
- Purdue, Illinois, Iowa, Notre Dame and Alabama: 1
Let's spoil the White Out twice in a row; Go Blue!
A truly legit white-out opponent. Purdue won and rose to #5.
Purdue went to the Rose Bowl in 2000, but in retrospect, that moment right there was THE high point of Purdue football over the last 25 years. People were seriously talking about them and the National Championship.
The very next week Purdue hosted #10 Wisconsin. They were winning, had the ball, a 3rd-and-3, and one or two more 1st Downs would seal the game. Kyle Orton ran it, had the first-down, and then Orton went air-borne:

The very NEXT week Purdue hosted #12 Michigan. Maybe the National Title dream was dead, but a B1G title and an 11-1 season were all still achievable. Down 2 late in the game but had the ball, a WR got open and past mid-field, and then HE went air-borne too:

And that was it for Purdue football. 2 consecutive heart-breakers from which they never recovered: either short-term (finished the year 7-5 and unranked) or long-term.
Not remotely surprising. It would be a terrible bit of luck if they were to lose in this game, but from what I've heard from completely unbiased PSU fans this is going to be a bloodbath where Michigan will be lucky to only lose by 39.
Nothing good can come of it.
Sounds a lot like Rutgers last year. Didn't they try the exact voodoo bullshit. Hey Ped state you better walk the walk. Losing these types of games can haunt you for years. Like I stated before, I think psu will have at least one loss by the time we play and we will be favored.
Kick Franklin's and Dantonio's ass going forward. This game does not concern me in the slightest. The only road game that concerns me is Wisconsin. Glad it is late in season so our O/line should be well tuned.
Will they also be having another cult ritual ceremony honoring their pedophile-enabling cult leader Joe Paterno?
There aren't enough middle fingers in the world to accurately describe how much I hate Penn State. I wonder how they'll honor JoePa at the game. Maybe the band will make a formation of his head. And then his idiot son Scott will go to mid-field to accept a plaque on behalf of JoePa's restored victories. Then he'll say a few words to the tone deaf crowd who then cheer their hearts out while the rest of the college football world watching on TV go bang their heads against the wall.
Hope they're buying in bulk...
in contrasting colors.
Why is this being discussed ? Did you not expect a white out ? Who cares.
Not too worried about the white out aspect of the game than I am about the time of the game. If this is a white out night game, I woud chalk it up as a loss. If it's during the day I see it going our way.
