You can pencil Michigan in for the 8th seed of the B1G tournament

Submitted by Maizen on

Iowa just beat Wisconsin, which means if Iowa beats Penn State at home on Sunday Michigan is locked into the 8th seed of the B1G tournament win or lose at Nebraska. They'll likely face Illinois, winners of 5 straight, and then have to face Purdue.

Last night had consequences. Big ones.

I don't know why people are confident about Nebraska, this team has two road wins all year and just barely escaped the worst team in the league.  That game is 50/50 to me.

Yep, agreed. Senior Night on the road after a completely deflating loss. We've been god awful on the road this year, and Nebraska is probably going to pull out its best effort of the season because its their last game at home. They have no shot at making the tourney so they're going to play like they have nothing to lose.

Would not shock me in the slightest if we lose that game.

It was a shootout when we played them at Crisler.  91-85, didn't have the game in hand until about 30 seconds left.

Plus, Michigan is the only conference team they have never beaten since joining the B1G.  They have plenty of motivation despite the record.

I would never bet on us for a road game.  The results speak for themself.

I'd say we haven't actually played badly on the road overall,  except at the very end of games where we can't seem to make that winning play or two (or hit the key FT).  We've lost twice in OT (Iowa, Minnesota) another time at the buzzer (NW) and another time in the final minutes (Wisconsin).

I remember when I got slammed making a big deal about that Iowa loss. That's still the worst loss of the season. I wouldn't go counting a win for Wisconsin in their final game either. That team is broken.

Too many close losses on the road plus that killer loss at home to OSU. Win any of those and we would be in much better shape.

Losing to fucking OSU man....

OSU has a total shit stain of a team that year, and we still somehow managed to lose to them at home. We don't drop that game, and we're pretty much in the tournament no matter what happens.

Just like football couldn't win on the road, the basketball team is in the same position. Sure we've played close against Iowa, Minn, Wisky and Northwestern, but we lost all of them. Something to be said about our inability to win tight games. Eventually you have to come through or pay the consequences. And the consequences are win at Nebraska or be forced to win at least one in the BTT. Without a win in either, we probably deserve the NIT.

If you are worried about missing the tournament if we lose to Nebraska and our first game in the BTT, I think you should check out the current bubble right now. It is BAD. Our resume is far superior to these teams. Heck, Illinois is on the bubble now. And a bunch of other teams that have 1 or 2 top 50 RPI wins.

Michigan deserves the 8th or 9th spot when you cannot hit free throws, when you cannot defend a length of the court pass, and when Walton cannot hit the rim with less than 2 minutes to go!
