OT: Winged design on cranial band for babies

Submitted by jakerblue on

Thought the board might enjoy this.

The bands are to correct plagiocephaly (nothing serious, just helps correctly shape the head as it grows, they are only in them for 2-4 motnhs).

When our daughter who is now 3 needed one as a baby, I kept bugging my wife to let me put the winged design on it. To shut me up she promised if we had a boy that needed one I could put it on his. Little did she know we were going to have twin boys that both needed the bands.

Good Christ this is adorable, awesome...yeah. Pulls at the heart strings. Phenomenal parenting by you, OP. All the best to you, your family, and your children. May they grow up to be strong, healthy, and proud Wolverines!

The kid in the home onesie will be a sweet left tackle one day. The kid in the away onesie needs to fill out a bit before I can make an assessment on his permanent position.

How did you make these? You could open a sweatshop in China to sell a version of these to every university hospital in the country.

Any Mott docs around here?  Pretty sure that if you get your helmet from Mott, you can get a blue one with maize wings.

Could have sworn I saw them on Neuro ICU rounds

we need one of those for our guy and found someone to airbrush a bunch of different things on it. unfortunately the wife's side of the family are Clemson grads, so we had to share some real estate because of their championship

I want one.  Mine are all old and smelly.  Also teenagers, so they don't let me hold them any more.  Which one can I have and where do we meet?  (note- I may return baby when I recall how much physical work they require.  It's all mental with mine.)

hmm, that's tough, my wife had to give up dairy for the one in blue (which means I don't get to eat pizza either), but the one in maize wakes up more during the night

and don't think these guys aren't smelly also, especially with those helmets

Those look great! I was much lazier than you for my son's helmet and went and had it done by a graphics company. They did a fantastic job and I also bought some mini stickers off of ebay, nice to see other people making these things look awesome!

I'll try to upload a pic once I figure out how to get rid of that crazy link that gets pasted below them.

Nicely done. My kid had/has this. Our pediatrician was pretty adamant the helmets are a waste of time, we also got a second opinion that was a little more circumspect to say yes or no, but ultimately said it was probably not worth the fuss.

We focused more on PT to get his neck muscles evened out so he wasn't laying on the same spot all the time, and worked on getting him more comfortable on his stomach.

He's 16 months now and running around. There's still a hint of the flat spot left but you can't see it unless his hair is wet and matted down. The doc said it will continue to fill in up to 3 years.

When my son was born 16 years ago, it was the beginning of babies sleeping on their backs because of SIDS. My son hated sleeping on his back and we noticed he slept much better on his stomach, so that's what we did, against the advice of our pediatrician. So while he slept soundly, I tossed and turned, worrying that he was going to die of SIDS. Everything turned out fine of course.

We started to notice the slightest little flat spot on our son's head and took him to the pediatrician.  She said we were hugely overreacting (we do that), and she's not a big fan of the helmets (inconclusive results).  Instead, we just majorly amped up the tummy time and got rid of the bouncy chair (a suspected culprit).

However, we have some friends that swear by them.  Also, I admire your fandom--should your kids end up at MSU or OSU, you'll at least have these photos to hold over them the rest of their lives.  That's what parenting is all about...right?

My wife and I went to Christmas Eve service at our church and I noticed an infant in the next aisle who had one of these on. It was all decked out with his name and some different stickers. I made a comment to my wife on the drive home that if our future kids ever needed one, that I would be creating a Michigan helmet themed one. She just rolled her eyes at me, knowing full well I wasn't kidding whatsoever.

Very cool!! Also, glad to hear the reason for needing one isn't too serious. I had never seen one before then, so I wasn't sure.
