Aubrey Solomon Apologizes
Presented without comment (h/t Garrett Fishaw)
I have some growing up to dopic.twitter.com/ykDT9ModNY
— Aubrey Solomon (@AubreySolomon91) January 5, 2017
Edit: For those who are having trouble accessing the previous thread, Aubrey was caught on another recruit's periscope saying "F*** Michigan" and expressing bitterness about the staff getting his name wrong (among other less than flattering comments).

Kid is not Michigan material.

On one hand, I totally agree with cutting a 18 year old some slack. On the other hand, how many of these high drama recruits end up having issues or transferring when they get to school? He ain't coming here anyway, I'm over it.

I wonder how Harbaugh and co. view this incident. They may decide to just turn the page with this kid and pursue higher character guys who may have a little less physical talent. I would thihk that F#&@ Michigan ticks off our Jimmy boy.

I don't think he means bad character like he's a bad person, I think he means character as in disposition that is better suited to success at the college level. If the kid is still butthurt 7 months later about someone spelling his name wrong, who is he going to handle getting chewed out for missed assignments, or not getting enough PT?

It reflects poorly on the business for sure, but if a customer is still bitching about it to anyone that will hear them 7 months later it says far more about them than the business.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:56 AM ^
Can l check back with you in 7 months?

Come on Cavanosa, everyone makes mistakes.
January 5th, 2017 at 11:00 AM ^
Or, was I mistaken?
January 5th, 2017 at 10:53 AM ^
many years, and I've also learned that you can't control how people react to your mistakes. Make the identical mistake with two people, and with one person it's no biggie and the other goes off the deepend. You correct the mistake and move on, just like Michigan is doing here.
January 5th, 2017 at 1:24 PM ^
I did far worse at 18 than this until the Marines got a hold of me and corrected the stupid in me. For middle aged men to get so bent out of sort over a recruit is insane to me. Move on and let it be. Cheer against him in games if you wish, but he's 18 and made a dumb decision. He'll make more, hopefully he learns and moves on too.

Everyone has those moments where they consider quitting when they're being pushed harder than they've ever been pushed, and are competing with people better than them for the first time. But they didn't.
I'm not sure a guy that can't get over someone misspelling his name or misremembering if he was at an event will be able to handle those moments of doubt in the same way though.
January 5th, 2017 at 11:25 AM ^
Sorry, this was not a "heat of the moment" utterance. He said "F*ck Michigan" while chilling with his boys. So, I agree that those types of things deserve slack, but this was not one of those types of things.
January 5th, 2017 at 1:42 PM ^
It's better to know where you stand with someone. Glad he said fuck Michigan, so now there is no more will he, won't he. We can just move on now. After his last visit, he was all smiles and talking about how great Michigan was but, now it's fuck Michigan.... Nobody likes a person who smiles in your face and talk $%^& behind your back. That's what fake people do, have fun at Georgia, Audrey

First, I don't think saying "F*ck Michigan" is a mistake. What you say around friends when you think you are "keeping it real" is what you really feel. So, I don't necessarily agree with his statement that "in no way does that reflect who I am as a person." Of course it does. It just doesn't reflect what he wants the public to think of him now.
Second, someone who "loves the University of Michigan" would never utter those words. So, stop with the fake affection so you can put our hat on table.
Third, if it really was a mistake then I'm fine with forgiving him. But, then how about he forgive Michigan for the whole "thank you" letter incident? That seemed like an innocent mistake by an M staffer as well and I'm sure Harbaugh and others have apologized to him and his mother multiple times for it. But, didn't he say in the video that "they didn't even know my name"? Sounds like he's still bitter about it and carrying around a grudge.
January 5th, 2017 at 11:53 AM ^
Sounds like he should go play at MSU if he wants to carry around petty grudges his whole career

January 5th, 2017 at 1:12 PM ^
If I'm comparing what he said around friends versus a statement of formal apology and professed love for UofM on twitter, then I will believe what he said around frends as his true feelings. He wasn't pressured into saying anything about M in the video. He said what was on his mind.
Absolutely agree to move on. It certainly has not altered my reality. But, hitting F5 repeatedly and posting on this site (which is not what I usually do) is not about reality either. So, all of this is a bit of an alternate universe.

hats on the table here brings up amusing possibility for vindictive spite
he grabs the UM hat, shouts Fuck Michigan! and throws it away before putting on the Bama hat
like Cliff Alexander but more of a full mockery of the recruiting circus

On the one hand if someone is thoughtless/impulsive enough to make public inflammatory statements it's likely they will get them in return on social media. Right on wrong on either part, it has to be expected.
On the other hand, it's unfortunate that a kid is in the spotlight before he's mature enough to understand it.
That being said, I think the impulsivity, attention seeking behavior, rebelliousness, and gregarious personality traits are often highly associated with risk taking behavior, which has the potential to cause issues if not focused in productive ways.
January 5th, 2017 at 12:41 PM ^
Probably just trying to fit in. Heat of the moment. we've all did it.

Exactly.
The last two sentences nailed it.

apparently you never made a mistake in your teens.

kid is human, has owned up to his mistake and isn't coming to michigan
at least we know where we really stand and can adjust recruiting strategy accordingly
no need to be salty

There was video (I didn't watch) of him saying "F*#$ Michigan. They didn't even spell my name right." or something very similar to that. Good for the young man to apologize. Kids talk all sorts of smack from one moment to the next. They may mean it at the time, but ten minutes later have a different attitude. (Think about the kids you knew who would break up and get back together 20 times in a day in H.S.) It has to be hard living in a world where everything is recorded and even worse when you have the spotlight on you.
January 5th, 2017 at 9:56 AM ^
I agree, while not thrilled about the negative comments, caring enough and having the stones to publicly apologize holds much more weight with me than the teenage smack talk caught on video.
