Sounds like OSU has fired Tim Beck

Submitted by Heywood_Jablome on

Rumor is Kevin Wilson has been hired. Texas beat writer saying Herman may have hired Beck.

But a month or so ago, the talking heads at ESPN were saying Kelly hated recruiting and doesn't want to go back to college. I know I know, they said the same thing about JH, but didn't Oregon have a service that basically did their recruiting for them? So maybe this time, that argument holds some weight.

Urbs saw a lack of offense in big games and is taking action- will JH do the same? Do you want him to?

Saw this on a paid site, that Herman was his orignal recruiter, and Urb making JT battle with Burrows and Haskins next year.  Anyone else see this or have any info?  Personally I'd prefer he stays, he's 1 dimensional albeit 3-0 vs the good guys, but atleast we know what to expect.

Wouldn't be surprising. Meyer's offenses at OSU haven't been as dynamic since Herman left, never were as good in big games, and hiring Beck was always a questionable decision, to me, to begin with.

That guy's offenses at Nebraska were never that impressive. Always wondered why Meyer ever thought he'd be any different at OSU.

Watson and Beck somehow was regarded as very advanced with their "multiple" offense and yet Martinez was a liability and they were never effective against tough teams. I was baffled when a Urban hired Beck. I think Urban struggles with really changing his offense - he seems to want a mostly running QB and yet 2 of 3 NCs were won by passing QBs (Leak and Jones) with good mobility. It's almost like the Tebow model is his ideal and he cannot completely break away from that paradigm.

People have made reference to Woody Hayes etc, but times have changed -- dramatically. Coaches can not lay a hand on players or abuse them.

OSU football is huge, but even at big-time programs, state legislatures, alumni and college presidents are going to have a serious problem hiring someone who is alleged to have abused players.

Unless Wilson is cleared of the charges that got him fired (which as far as I know, has not happened), I can't believe he would go to OSU.
