Also, November at UM is literally hell on earth academically, and this is prime study time. Students would be making a mistake even walking to Crisler and then walking straight back to the library for christ's sake.

That just reminded me...I have a cool story bro.
So I got to go to the game at S. Carolina and forgot this, because, well obviously (the game sucked).
Anyway, I got to sit with the parents right behind the bench, I mean, I heard every word in every timeout. I don't know if it's public knowledge, Beilein has made Dackich a coach for this redshirt year.
He seriously goes to him for advice DURING the game, he's constantly okay "Okay, I hear you...keep talking to me, keep giving me that stuff." He'll kneel down in front of Andrew and Andrew will point things out the he sees while the ball is in play.
I won't say who, but Dackish even heavily made a sub (I won't say who because it was due to poor play, not him pointing out someone who may be gassed or injured - which is normal).
During the game Dakich will take Beilein's clipboard and draw stuff up and then at some of the media timeouts he'll take the first 10 seconds to explain to Coach what he's seeing. Just those 2 standings off to the side while the managers pull the stools out and everyone gets settled.
Especially during timeouts when we're on defense because Donlon runs all of those, he sits in Beilein's chair and everything. So Dakich will draw something up and explain it really quick, Beilein will listen and learn what he's trying to say, he'll nod, and then will go into the huddle with Donlon and hear the defense.
Just really cool how they keep him involved and use his eye for very specific things. I also found often Dakich is looking off the ball and scouting. He'll call out a missed backcut and coach up a teammate because everyone else is naturally looking at the action in the play.
Sometimes when a big doesn't get the ball and feels he's open, Dakich will explain to him when he comes out why the guard missed the pass. (As a former guard, it's normally always because you don't trust the angle the big gave you). Little things like that.
The kid is smart as hell. I was with 2 other people, neither a Michigan fan - actually one an OSU fan...both were rooting for Michigan and loved Beilein and the team after the game. The way they all communicate with each other is special/unqiue to watch.
The fact that a man who's been to the Final Four, the National Championship game can set his ego aside and allow a walk-on PG share his thoughts, or a 1st year assistant lead a timeout...I just thought that was special. Don't get me wrong, Beilein's always in control, it's his team, but he wants ALL of the information he can possibly get. If you can give him 1% more info now than he had a minute ago - he'll take it.

Makes complete sense added to the little nugget Dakich the elder dropped during the under-12 timeout doing his thing with Andrew. He sort of implied or even said that about Beilein "going to him"; it sounded a bit exaggerated at the time but I certainly believe it.

I was gonna say...uhhh, have you seen the stretches we have?
They're the reason I watch the game on mute and only look at the score from time to time...watching us is so frustrating unless we're playing "clean" and hitting shots.

Beilein needs a guard with some athleticism to play for him at a different school.
Fixed that for you.
