To be fair, we don't know if this is the precise instant his progress was stopped or not.

I also wish one of the eleven defenders on the previous play had tackled Samuels a few yards shorter.
That's why this sucks the most, avoidable.

Correct but that is also why that dude is one the best players in the country.
November 27th, 2016 at 3:29 PM ^
It is hard to draw a conclusion from just this picture because you can't tell when it was taken relative to Barrett's forward progress. This is the best view of the play, but need to know when the photo was shot. Trying to stay objective, but we need that for definitive proof.
Is someone skilled enough that they would be able to match this photo with the video in frame-by-frame using the other players' positions to figure out when the photo was taken?
November 27th, 2016 at 3:34 PM ^
with the screen capture of the replay they used during the game (the one with the angle taken well behind the line to gain) this shot does capture Barrett at his forward most progress point.
Even Barret has said he thought he probably did not make it.
But...ball was obscured by tangle of bodies so refs just made a guess.
November 27th, 2016 at 3:49 PM ^
This sucks
But number 88 was standing straight up when Barrett leaped for the first down.
OP's picture is clearly after Barrett leaped.
We have no idea how far he progressed before the picture was taken.
November 27th, 2016 at 3:51 PM ^
Look at any other picture of the play. Number 88's hand is in the air in the same way and Barrett is facing the same way. It is clearly the furthest point.

seen an image that depicts what you describe. Please post an image.
From every image that I have seen, and after reviewing the video several times, I see nothing about 88 standing up and nothing about the ball ever going beyond 88's butt or up to the shoulder pad.
If there is an image that contradicts this please post it or at least provide a link.

I was mistaken. I thought Barrett hit 88 in the shoulder pad area when I was at the game
I rewatched it, he did hit him on the lower back.
IMO We still need addition snapshots to determine his forward progress.

In the video replay 88 was standing. In this picture, he is leaning after being run into by Barrett.
This is well after his lunge. We need the pictures before this one.
November 27th, 2016 at 3:54 PM ^
Look at any of the pictures even Ohio State fans are showing you or where every player is facing. This is clearly where the play ends.
November 27th, 2016 at 3:57 PM ^
Im saying that the it does not show FORWARD progress.
Barrett could have crossed the 15 yard line before being pushed back.
The linesmen will award the forward progress.

I watched the video in slow motion.
I can't tell anything.
This picture isn't enough, without addition snapshots.
We need video on the first down marker.

was he was short. WE WON! I was shocked that the review was, basically non-existant. I have seen them spend more time resetting the game clock a few seconds than was spent on reviewing that play.
I don't think that it was just the Michigan Fan base that noticed this. I would notice the same in a game that I am watching that I am not a huge fan of. The Woverines have a passionate fanbase, not whining - Just looking at the facts as they really are.Go Blue! The season is not over yet.

This angle confirms that it was short yesterday, it is still short today, the ball will forever be short... those players were robbed!

BTW, am I the only one who thinks 88 was holding on the play???? Of course, why would they ever call a penalty after ignoring all the other indiscretions.

Someone tell me god damnit, why all these networks with this big money and in these big games, cant they get a son of a bitching camera at the first down markers for the replay. Have the damn things all over the stadium. Or whoever deals with the replay review. Just get a damn camera where it has to be so everyone can see right at the marker, what happened during the play. It's only the outcome of the game and the most important thing. You'd think some of these idiots could finally figure this out. I see the same thing over and over during game after game. A team will get screwed at the goal line because the evidence isn't conclusive to what the call is. And what the hell is this close enough bullshit for the refs? If the ball didn't cross the white line, it's not a first down. It's obvious right there that all the closer the ball got to the line was like 5 or 6 inches. What more do these fucking idiots need to see on replay? The ball didn't make it to that line. When you have 10s of thousands of people that see the same thing, I don't see how these replay officials can keep their jobs. Just blows my fucking mind.
November 27th, 2016 at 3:38 PM ^
We could eliminate this entirely. You're telling me that in this day and age you couldn't stick a tiny GPS transponder in the ball and sync it to a locator at each side of the field that would let you triangulate exactly where the fucking ball was at any given second? Take the refs out of the game since they're clearly not interested in doing their jobs.

This would solve it, yes. Best thing I've seen all day. Then you'd probably have them pricks dealing with that somehow rigging it so the low life buckeyes could prevail. Cant wait for that program to have their turn in the dumps. It's coming folks. Every team goes through it.

The angle that Buckeye fans keep showing makes it look further than it is because it's behind the play. This is straight on.

They are also skewing the original image in most of the pics they are using.. you will notice in the versions that still have hash marks that they do not line up.
