Position Changes - Spring
The article is behind a paywall at rivals, but there are a few players moving around.
Mike Jones - Weakside Linebacker
Teric Jones - Strong Safety
Cam Gordon - Free Safety
Mike Williams - "Spur" (think spinner).
I'm in pretty fair agreement with all of these. Thoughts?
Sounds good to me, but where do all these positions names come from? I'd never heard of Spur before reading this.
I'll put some names to positions to help.
In our defense, the safety positions are reversed from "normal" defenses.
The strong safety plays deep = Troy Woofolk (most of last season it was Kovacs)
Free Safety = Kovacs/ Mike Williams last year.
Spur is something new.. people are freaking out thinking we are moving to a 3-3-5. A spur is usually a linebacker/safety combo.
Weakside linebacker is one of our three linebackers.. in our defense it's an inside linebacker = Jonas Mouton.
Mike JONES!
You have his phone number?
(281) 330-8004. Hit him up on the low.
best non-michigan avatar i've seen

edit: good form Antoo.
or lurk around mgoblog and wait for my chance to strike in the form of witty off topic comments.
I hope "spinner" is a typo and you meant "splinter" as in from riding the pine all year.
Woolfolk + Christian + Dorsey + Turner ftw!
Athletic, surprisingly agile; height a disadvantage...

We meet again old rat! This time you will not defeat me!
I also hope he means splinter, but not as in riding the bench. More like becoming a giant rat that is an expert in training ninjas.
EDIT: Dang, not only did you beat me to it, you had a picture. I am fail.
Maybe new t-shirt idea? Rich rod could be splinter and say, Tate as Raphael, denard as mikey, odoms as Leo, and stonum as Donny?
Just sayin
Sardines.
Also they talk about a position "addition"... Moundros is going to play linebacker as well as fullback this year. Woodson 2.0
Maybe they'll have Will Campbell return kicks like he did in high school.
I can just see him now...ball curled in his arm, full head of steam, aggressively shouting "move bitch get out the way"
for the awesome visual.
Agreed.
Glad to see Teric back on the defensive side of the ball. I didn't understand earlier reports that he was going to RB after a year practicing at CB. Also glad to see Gordon at the box safety.
Given the crazy lack of DB depth right now we need those 2 at S just to field a 3-deep during spring practice. I also think it means Woolfolk stays at CB for at least the spring.
CB: Woolfolk, Turner, Floyd, Rogers, walk-ons?
Safety: Vlad, Kovacks, T. Gordon, C. Gordon, T. Jones, Van-Slyke?
i wouldve thought that he would have stayed at cornerback though
quick to dis Mike Williams, remember how much Stevie Brown improved from his Junior to Senior year when Gerg moved him from safety to the Spinner/Splinter/Spur position. Hopefully, we will see a similar leap in improvement from Mike given the same position switch.
WTF?
I can barely understand football as it is and now they have to keep changing names?!
I finally learn about Mike & Ike linebackers, Strong & Meek safeties, Quicks, Flippers, Fluffers, then "The Spinner". (which apparently is a position three-fourths of the team has been recruited to play); and now we've got a "Spur"?
UNACCEPTABLE!!!
I hereby proclaim:
the Slot = "The Dribbler".
the Left Tackle = "The One-Eyed-Jack"
the fullback = "The Grunt"
the Nose Tackle = "The Vegamite"
the Tight End can be alternately known as "Pangea" or "Tim The Enchanter" depending on defensive alignment.
I know you were joking, but there were only a couple people recruited to play "Spinner." Or, more accurately, one person - Josh Furman.
Mike Williams move is interesting I thought he was in the running to win the box safety job. Looks like Kovacs has the inside track battling Vlad Emilen and Marvin Robinson
It's basically the same thing.
Yeah, the 3-3-5 is terrible. It didn't work at all for the Saints against the Colts in the Super Bowl.
Uh, what was that score again?
