PFF: Top 10 True Freshman after Week 4 (Rashan Gary makes appearance)

Submitted by Indonacious on

3. Rashan Gary, Edge, Michigan 81.7

Adding Gary to an already-loaded defensive line seemed unfair for Michigan and Gary has already shown why he was so highly touted. He’s cracked the defensive line rotation with 136 snaps, fifth-most on the team, doing his best work in the run game at 87.4 while picking up two sacks, three QB hits, and six hurries on 73 pass rushes. His 13.3 pass rush productivity leads all true freshmen edge rushers.

1. Dexter Lawrence, DT, Clemson 83.8
2. Ed Oliver, DT, Houston 82.0

Interesting how the top eight positions are all at spots that are traditionally difficult for freshmen to make an impact (2 DTs, 2 OTs, 2 QBs, 1 DE, 1 LB). Wouldn't surprise me at all if Gary, Lawrence and Oliver were the first three picks of the 2019 NFL Draft.

...so I'll just throw it in here.

Steven Montez, of recent 0/7 throwing and -4 rushing yards fame, was named on PFF's "Team of the Week" for week 4.

Montez took over the Colorado and led them to an impressive win at Oregon, capping the afternoon with a well-placed back shoulder for the game-winning touchdown. While he made a few mistakes, Montez was excellent passing and running the ball. His 90.8 rush grade ranked second among quarterbacks this week as he picked up 82 yards on 12 designed runs and 66 yards on five scrambles.
