Wilton Speight appreciation thread

What a journey. Congrats to Wilton. This is the Harbaugh effect.

What a journey. From that to starter.

Harbaugh was told something similar to when he was late to a meeting with Bo pic.twitter.com/zfS2v04nvu

Dan Marino was famously called a "pusher" at Pitt. Paul Zimmerman at SI, who's about as astute an observer as you'll get at the time, got a lot of grief for that evaluation, but he wasn't wrong about the motion. LINK

“I don’t understand it,” Sports Illustrated writer Paul Zimmerman said on ESPN immediately after Marino was selected. “I don’t know who is going to work with him down there. Where is the great quarterback coaching genius of the Dolphins? I know (Bill) Arnsparger is a great defensive coach. I don’t see where he’s going to get the great coaching to overcome the problems that he’s having.” History suggests a guy named Don Shula helped Marino overcome all his deficiencies, including, in Zimmerman’s eyes, a habit of “pushing” the ball. “Pusher, huh?” Shula told Zimmerman the next time they met. “What do you think of my pusher now?”

From the spring game video he looks to have accuracy. He also threw to his primary guy on every pass. It is the nature of spring games of course. You don't need to be flashy to be good. Boring is fine with me, just find the open guy. Move the chains. Be smart. He has a so many weapons at his disposal.

With Wilton being a RS sophomore, he conceivably could be a 3 year starter. Or he could be a 2 years starter that loses his job his senior year. Or maybe he wins the Heisman this year and is in the NFL next year.

What a time to be a Michigan fan.

How big of a shock would it be if Shane Morrise lines up under center for the first play against Hawaii?

If the source for the Speight wins the job story is respected writer, why isn't the respected writing writing a story about it?

This is a big story. The source, presumably, writes about about Michigan football for a living. So why, if he knows definitively that Speight has won the job, hasn't he written a story announcing that news? The story loses its value if he waits until next Saturday.

That's kinda how I feel, isn't Angelique a respected writer? She wrote an article today that no one knows who's starting at QB. Although I do feel like Speight is telling people he's the starter weather that's true or not is another story

Oh---That is because he knows Harbaugh wants to keep it secret, and writer respects that, just does not respect it enough not to write his buddy umbig11 so he can leak it for the respected writer. umbig11 will give respected writer all the "credit" on game day, when Harbaugh probably makes the actual announcement. /s

I'm willing to bet that if Speight kills it and goes on to great things this will end up being the new Henson/Brady debate where everyone says they believes in Speight when really everyone was thinking O'Korn

So does this retroactively mean Al Borges can recruit QBs, or does it mean Harbaugh can turn anything into a competent QB?

Either way, congrats to Speight; now win some games.

Also very happy that we have a capable backup, so I don't have to hold my breath every time our guy gets hit. It's been a long time since we've had depth back there. Good Luck, Wilton!
