Who do we fill out 2018 with?

Submitted by maizeonblueaction on

Looking at our schedule, obviously we have three major games away in 2018, but it looks like we still have an empty spot for a game. Who do we fill it with? Does the answer to that question potentially change your mind about how desirable the scheduling set up with ND was?

A cursory glance shows that USC and Stanford are free that day.

I don't know why no one has mentioned Miami, I think they are almost perfect. They are a power 5 team with a marquee name, yet they have been very down in the past few years and I don't think Richt will have that team at an eite level yet by then.

I think my next two choices would be Kentucky and Vanderbilt, just because I think we can get a one off home game with them without doing a return trip.

*With WHOM do we fill out 2018?

/I'll see myself out...

Also, does making jokes count as bargaining, depression, or acceptance? I think I'm past anger...maybe.

I hate that Arkansas would be replaced by some patsie.  This whole BS about only having one tough non-con game is BS.  Especially when UA isn't exactly on Alabama's level.  They are a legit opponent that doesn't offer a big loss percentage.  Miami would also fit that bill, but why pay $2M to Arkansas just to put someone just like them on the schedule?

Warde eff'd this up.

The press focus would finally give us the opportunity to clear up the "Big Blue" label confusion in the journalistic world. Either that or schedule a game with IBM for that date. I bet Harbaugh could outscheme Watson.

This is a bad mark against Warde Manuel..I didnt mind putting ND back on the schedule in fact I think we should play two on two off....BUT this set up? Losing Ark and playing ND TWICE in a row on the road?   Thats a bad deal for Michigan...a Bad deal

Personally, I miss the type of schedules that we had in the 1990's...I want a marquee name that might not be too tough...of course, there was no reason to get rid or R-Kansas (said in my best Les Miles voice).

Let's go for Miami...and make it a night game...

why on earth would they pay arkansas $2 mil to cancel and publicly state they don't want 10x P5 teams the same year, then proceed to schedule another? Not to mention there's only like 3 of them left with open dates. You're out of your mind if you think it will be USC but manuel and harbaugh are even crazier, so i'm predicting we fill those days with.... ARKANSAS

In going to 9 conference games I find it puzzling why so many people want to play big time schools. We already have ND back on the schedule. We need at least one or two cupcakes in the non-conference schedule to prepare us for the long season.

Probably an AAC team or C-USA team that's upper level but not a threat to really win.  Marshall is open, as is South Florida.  Either of those two would be interesting.

Coastal Carolina is moving up to the Sun Belt full on in 2018, and will undoubtedly need some "pay" games.  In 2018 they only have UAB and at UMass scheduled.  Could give them a whipping but at least Coastal is an interesting team.
