Sad day. Dude is special, setting just a few records. Should be fun watching him on Saturday. GO NAVY BEAT ARMY WEST POINT!

It raises an interesting question. How do they decide who gets to attend? I'm assuming that Reynolds got very few votes, so perhaps they thought that it may actually be unfair to invite him given that he'll finish so far behind the others?

Personally, I'd be fine with them inviting 5-6 guys every year, as it allows those athletes to have their seasons, and in Reynolds case career, showcased in front of a national audience. Who cares if he isn't anywhere near the top 3.

The invite to the Heisman is based on the votes received by the Heisman voters. Three is the minimum. Depending on how close the rest of those receiving votes are determines how many are invited. So yes, Reynolds could finish 4th, but if he was say, 500 votes behind 3rd place, then he isn't invited.

I kind of like this, because imagine being invited when you weren't even close to being 3rd place, but started wondering if you could win it, because after all, you were invited.

Plus, not everyone gets an honor, a trophy, a participation ribbon, etc.

SHOULD AND WILL be McCaffrey. One thing to be big and running behind a pro offensive line for an NFL minor league team. Completely another to do what McCaffrey has done this year...which is EVERYTHING! In Championship Game Dude runs, catches and passes for TDs...and almost had one on a return. I have NO DOUBT that he would gather in a Pick 6 if forced to play DB.

If he doesn't get this award then the Heisman has TRULY become more about the HYPE than about the PLAY on the field.

Do you define "catching a break" as "being invited to the Heisman ceremony despite numbers that are clearly inferior than the other candidates"?  Deshaun Watson had rushing numbers that were almost as good as Reynolds', plus about 4x as many passing yards and TDs, and is significantly responsible for his team being #1 in the country.  Reynolds has had a great career, but let's not pretend that his 2015 season is anywhere close to as impressive.

Henry has huge raw rushing numbers because he's gotten the most carries of any RB in the country.  Averaging 5.9 yards per carry behind Alabama's line is good, but not spectacular (it's about the same as the career averages for Trent Richardson and T.J. Yeldon, and significantly worse than the career average for Eddie Lacy).  Henry is good, but he's the beneficiary of being the workhorse of a really talented team.

If I had a vote, I'd go with Deshaun Watson.  Not only does he have the numbers, but there's no way Clemson would be undefeated without him.

Fournette - 1750 yards; 18 TD's in 11 games.
D. Cook - 1650 yards; 18 TD's. Played on one leg.
K. Reynolds - record breaker at Navy.
Zeke - 1675 yards; 19 TD's.
Paxton Lynch: nearly 4000 yards; 30 TD's at Memphis

It's a shame.  Maybe the guy has no chance of really winning but I respect the hell out of those guys at the military academies who have fairly grueling, regimented days to begin with even before athletics enter the picture.

Not sure how many of you heard about the controversey last week with Reynolds and the Heisman ballet but here's a good link:

Why exactly should Reynolds be considered for the Heisman?  He has 1093 yards rushing and 964 yards passing this season, with a total of 25 TDs, and his team is ranked 21st right now.  He's definitely a very good player and has had an awesome career, but those aren't even remotely close to Heisman-ish numbers.  And as any Michigan fan who was around for the Woodson/Manning debate will tell you, the Heisman isn't a career award.
