Seems like a rash decision

Great hire if your goal is to hold your opponents to 80 yards a game and yet somehow still manage to lose by four touchdowns.

DId Auburn even have that good of a defense this year? I feel like typically when coaches are fired and have to go back to being coordinators, they need to really do something special before they get offered another HC job.

Muschamp should hire Kiffen as OC, and Rob Ryan as DC in what will be the most overated coaching staff ever.

Kiffin is going to Georgia with his buddy Kirby Smart.
And if Muschamp didn't get this HC gig, he was headed to UGA as the DC. I really wanted to see that trio.

Hope South Carolina enjoys scoring 10 ppg the next few years

They'll never beat Clemson again.

It seemed like the two big cues here were first that Muschamp was said to be not returning to Auburn, and then that Rich Rodriguez turned down the South Carolina job after mulling it over on the plane home, per reports. Well, to be more accurate, those were the two big cues that Muschamp was looking and that South Carolina was probably going to make an underwhelming hire. For their purposes, this is a pretty underwhelming hire.

I do have a question, how many of the coaching hires this offseason have been influenced by harbaughs return to Michigan? By that I mean to say, do you feel teams are making conscious efforts to hire certain people in order to get that "splash" hire and thus ignite a fan base? I feel that when Harbaugh came to Michigan it set a new standard on a good coaching hire and now other teams are looking to do that. Just my opinion, but I'm wondering if others view it that way.
Muschamp is not that splash hire in my opinion, but South Carolina isn't even close to Michigan in terms of tradition.

Jim Harbaugh's hiring had exactly zero influence on this.

Well,
He ain't going to S. Carolina -- that's for sure.
IMO, he was going to wait forever to make a decision anyway. We've got plenty of time to name a DC and then that guy establish a relationship with Gary and any defensive recruits.

He has been a high-level recruit for a couple of years now. If he and his family have been paying attention, and you know they have, they have seen a ton of coaching changes in that time.
They know it's a fools game to try to pin everything on a specific coordinator or an assistant. They like Michigan and they like Harbaugh. That's where their stability lies.
Taking my Michigan homer hat off, I still don't think Auburn is a very stable situation. If you are looking for stability that is reasonable to expect, Michigan is far ahead of Auburn.
