RB George Hill Decommits from OSU

Submitted by alum96 on

Not the RB we assumed but umm.....dominos are moving.

This might be a flip to Sparty of all people.  3 crystal balls in last month, incl Wiltfong and Bucknuts guy.

Now speculation could start that the Wisconsin RB recruit who decommitted and everyone has headed to OSU is due to this decommitment and not Kareem.  Hmm.

Another Ohio State class of 2016 commit has announced he too will look around at other programs. After losing the pledge of four-star defensive end Terrell Hall, Hubbard speedster George Hill is now back on the market and no longer verbally committed to the Buckeyes.

Hill, a four-star athlete, was the first class of 2016 commitment for the Buckeyes. Ending his recruitment in the summer of 2014 before his junior season, the Second Team All-Ohio selection might have been pegged to play his college ball in Columbus, but was still high on the recruiting board of other schools.

The Buckeyes Big Ten foe Michigan State, where Hill's friend and former Hubbard High teammate LJ Scott now plays has been rumored as one of the main programs after the 6'0, 200-pound standout for months. The Pittsburgh Panthers are also in the mix for his pledge.

With Hill no longer committed to Ohio State the national champion Buckeyes class of 2016 now currently sits at 18 verbal commitments.

Recruiting is funny biz. I was thinking today that Williams was offered to replace Hill and not Walker. We shall see. Just may be a rotation of the three. Walker to UM & Williams to OSU. Oh wait, Williams stays at Wisky and OSU is "happy" with their current depth at rb. Sure Buckeye. Speculation to make you feel better.

I think he's East Lansing bound to join his former Hubbard high teammate LJ Scott. And form a strong Sparty backfield for the future. LJ Scott, London, and now G.Hill.

Could you imagine facing the backfield of G.Hill and LJ Scott together, in high school? ... holy shit.

I don't think this impacts Walker at all. He is committed and there was already space for him either way. He either wants to stick with OSU or he will decommit, only time will tell. We will probably know by this time next week.

I try not to get too invested in recruiting until the offseason because I know much is subject to change. Also, a lot of people on this blog were making comments like "am I missing something? I'm just not that impressed by Kareem Walker."

But then I clicked on this link on my FB feed that read "BREAKING : Nations Top RB Recruit Set To De-commit From OSU, Commit To Michigan". Then within the link it shows this ominous tweet Chris Patridge made that reads, "Just remembered a great quote. 'A person is only insecure about losing someone when they know someone else can treat them better."

Well at this point I just HAD to watch the kids highlight tape that was embedded in the link that I had avoided up until now... And WOW. The young man is as good as advertised in my book. I don't claim to be an expert, but when I saw Fournette and Peppers on tape, I knew they would be immediate impact players. This kid appears to be of the same ilk. I don't want to come off as hyperbolic Fred Jacksonish, and maybe it's partly due to the hair... But he reminds me a lot of Jamaal Charles with his running style, vision and top end speed, also a little bit with the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and get up field... There's the one VERY FJ caveat though... But BIGGER!

Now I really really want Harbaugh to flip this guy. I shoulda just left well enough alone.

I didn't mean for that to sound like he was. Fournette is more like Hershall Walker or Adrian Peterson. That's why I compared him to Charles... Which something along those lines would be just fine by me. He'd already be more of a HR threat than any of our current backs. The only comparison I was trying to make with Fournette and Peppers was that you could tell by watching their HS tape that they were ready to step onto a DI field immediately.

Maybe he's no Fournette, but Fournette averaged 8.2 yards/carry as a senior in high school. And Walker's school (DePaul) plays some pretty good competition. I don't think there's enough of a difference between 6.6 yards/carry and 8.2 yards/carry to jump to conclusions based on that stat alone.

Could someone more cognizant than myself correct me if I am wrong? I remember George Hill as a tall and well built WR, who didn't have particularly good hands, but was a superb physical specimen. Is he really a RB? He seems a foot too tall for the position. On the other hand, it's gospel truth that I know nothing . . .

I have no idea who you are thinking of but it sounds a lot like George Campbell who was a 2015 Wr recruit that infamously hugged Hoke then decommitted and ended up at FSU.  Physical specimen with questionable hands.  Maybe his first name and this guy's last name is what the connection is.

Referring to OSU as "we" on a Michian board sounds a little weird.  I actually had to read that to realize what was going on.  No offense, I'm happy to have other fans on there as it provides more perspective, but it sounds a little strange to hear "we" referencing the rival.  I know it's not uncommon for fans to reference their favorite team as we, but it doesn't make sense here...just my 2 cents.

Nah.  They flipped the 2 Dowell brothers on the last day of signing last year who had been committed to UK.

Strangely the staffs of UK (Stoops) and MSU have had a lot of recruiting battles the past 3 years.
