Who is your favorite UM player of all-time?

Submitted by Jevy on
It's kind of a slow and boring day today, so I figured this would be a fun topic. My earliest memories of UM football is around 2000 so I think my guy is Chris Perry, the guy just did everything in my opinion! This is my first post and sometimes I see people get killed for certain posts and I have no idea why haha I hope if this thread isn't appropriate that you guys will take it easy on me and give me some good feedback on why it isn't good and what I can do to improve my MGoBoard skills. Lol Go Blue!

It''s so hard for me to pick a favorite because I have enjoyed so many over the years...I'll just say I admire Devin Gardner for the way he handled himself and represented UofM during his time here

Yes--Denard! I saw him in the Union all the time when I was at UM, and from his interactions with students he really did seem like a great kid. More than the thrilling wins and the all-world athletic ability, that made it really, really easy to root for him.

Can't name a favorite, but Braylon Edward's 3 TDs in OT against MSU was the most insane thing I've ever scene.  (Except maybe for Gallon's touchdown against ND at UTL Uno)

Boggles my mind how a man that size from a tiny school in upstate New York could run as hard as he did, and set the program record for rushing yards

2nd would probably be Chris Perry, mostly because of the fact that he could still perform at a high level after a 51 carry game against MSU

Another favorite of mine I always seem to forget to mention is Ernest Shazor. His hit against that Purdue reciever in mid air was amazing.

Honestly can't decide between Hart, Woodson, and Mark Messner.  If forced to choose it's probably Hart, partly driven by how good he was while lacking elite physical talent.

His first snap at QB was a touchdown and every snap thereafter felt like he might take it the distance.  This on top of being an amazing ambassador for the University.  I hope one day, a long time from now, when his playing career is wrapped up he is able to be retun to U of M in some capacity.

On the field, terrific.  Off the field, truly inspirational.

Also, Tom Harmon (war hero & the best football player in the world?   That'll do, Tom.  That'll do.).

For players I actually saw, Charles Woodson.

Denard, he never won a championship, but his enthusiasm and love for UM football brought me through the darkest days.

1b. Tyrone Wheatley - Was a complete beast on the field, speed and power

1c. Charles Woodson - Do I really need to say anything?

1d. Desmond Howard - Mightiest of the mighty mites!

1e. Jarrett Irons - Instilled fear - enforcer on an all everything defense

Honorable Mentions - Anthony Thomas, Marquise Walker, Jeremy Gallon, Steve Breaston, Mike Hart, Tshimanga Biakabatuka, Chris Floyd, Sam Steele, Marcus Ray, Tripp Welbourne, Brandon Graham, Tom Brady, Drew Henson, Jordan Kovacs...

So many its hard to choose.

Got Jarret Irons autograph at the spring game this year he was a really nice guy. I didn't know who he was at first because I'm young so I didn't know a face to the name until someone told me. Awesome guy tho.

If it was for Webber and my step father I wouldn't be a Michigan fan. I would have ended up a Hoosier/ ND fan I'm sure. Thank God I'm not! So I would have to go with Webber and Charles Woodson

Although, I love Jalen Rose - not for what he did on the court, but because he's always been true to himself and he's always represented Detroit, Michigan to the fullest. The fact that this man started a school and sent a bunch of kids to college to me is the #MichiganDifference like no other. Woodson STILL comes to Mott's Children's Hospital even with his celebrity.

Those guys BLEED Michigan and it just makes me proud to be a fan and supporter of such a great University.

They're not the only ones, they've both made mistakes...but you asked for MY favorite, and those are your answers.

Denard would be on my list as well, but I love to win and we didn't win enough - he also struggled mightly at times. Woodson was godlike on the field.

Desmond, Harmon, AC, Brendan Morrison, and Marty Turco are all up there as well. Along with a couple of softball players.

And fortunate. I cannot select an individual. I have enjoyed watching Carter catch big ones as a child with my late dad, Harbaugh play when I was undergrad, Clay Miller through Johnny Kolesar and others while my fraternity brothers, Mike Gillette as my former teammate in high school, Ken Higgins as a rival high school player I played in regionals against, Wheatley, Perry, Biakabutuka, Woodson, Hart and so many many more. God Bless them all, yet, the best days are to come. The team the team the team.

After Henson left he was thrown into the fire. He ran like a pregnant deer. He had countless balls batted down at the line even though he stood 6' 6''.

But the guy continued to do his job for three years through all the negativity, and never said a bad word. When he left, he was the career passing leader for basically ever meaningful stat. His win versus OSU as a senior was a beautiful sight.
