Does anyone know the latest on Weber?
I've seen a number of reports on the Weber/OSU saga, but I haven't seen much other than "Everyone with the exception of Ohio State is upset."
I know Weber's mom isn't a fan of UM after some morons attacked her son on social media, but I'm curious if there's any update on if he's for sure going to OSU, trying to get out of his LOI, considering Michigan, or somewhere else entirely.
Thanks guys. I'll hang up and listen.

He's a Buckeye.

My guess is that he won't come to Michigan regardless. Feel bad for him, but I'm sure he'll end up fine wherever he goes.

Thought we UM grads were nerds. Now that there's some nerds.

And for Weber's mom, I totally understand her sense of wanting to protect her child. I'm a bit over-protective myself with my daughter. "Hey don't push my daughter. I don't care if she pushed you first, etc." She's only three years old, but I'm sure I'll feel the same way if she was 23... and I consider myself to be a "reasonable" person when it comes to most things in life.

Too bad Weber's mom has been "protecting" him from the wrong people. I know he isn't going to end up in Ann Arbor, but I wouldn't mind seeing a long, protracted drama that keeps Ohio State in the news every week as a program of debatable integrity.
This kid is going to get a four year scholly wherever he decides to go. I don't feel sorry for him. If he had stuck with his first commitment, he wouldn't be in this mess. I hope he eventually gets his life together, but I hope it comes at considerable expense to Ohio State.

The latest is he has to decide whether he wants to hurt and bleed for a lying snake who betrayed him or a fanbase that called him all sorts of horrible things on Twitter.
February 9th, 2015 at 1:38 PM ^
He'll be with the lying snake and the fanbase calling him all kinds of names if he doesn't live up to the hype.

I hate this statement. Idiotic trolls on twitter do not represent our fanbase. They represent idiotic trolls on twitter.

Fairly or unfairly, that's how he sees it.

Mr. Weber plays for the enemy now. While I hold no ill will towards him, I certainly don't wish him any luck either.

I know. But I just got one of those Weber Genesis gas grills. It's like a commercial oven on my deck. BRING ON THE MEATS!
February 9th, 2015 at 2:31 PM ^
Am looking at grills at the moment. The Webers look great. Was thinking about a Summit line v. a Broil King.
Am cheap though, so trying to find it ridiculously onsale.

You eat every day of your life. Skimping on a grill will leave a sucking hole in your mortal soul.
My weapon of choice is a Traeger pellet grill that allows you to both smoke and grill. Perfect cooking temps and great smokey flavors. One Costco trip (food < $75) and a days worth of smoking/grilling/drinking supplies the family with proteins for about two weeks. Cost benefit analysis: Well worth the initial $500 investment.

Mmm. Already have a smoker, but higher temp (hottest I got was 500-something) takes forever to get to, and still not hot enough to get a good sear on a steak.
Looking at a Weber Summit 420...but since it is like $1400, thinking about either a smaller model or trying to find it onsale somewhere...

with most wood smokers. I found the pellet grills crank up pretty high ( though maybe not much above 500) in about ten minutes. For searing, I also have an old proane Charbroil 35,000 BTU that does the trick. Dad always said, "choose the right tool for the job."
Who's this Mike Weber guy?

Logged in just to upvote this. One of, if not, my favorite movies. The movie is worth watching just for the line up scene.

Either he goes to OSU where he has a scholarship and has signed the LOI too, he begs out of the LOI and OSU magically allows it thus having to pay for a year of school or he sues over it and ends up losing and by that time his career is kaput.
So long story short if playing football at a D1 school is the goal he'll just swallow his pride and go to Columbus.
Wish he had chosen UM, it just amazes me how he didn't want to go to UM because there was another RB in the class but instead wanted to go to OSU who is already stacked with RB and likely will have the #1 RB in the nation coming next year.
February 9th, 2015 at 1:43 PM ^
If OSU releases himi from his LOI, he would not have to pay for a year of school. He'd be subject to transfer rules, and have to redshirt for one year, but he'd be allowed to be on scholarship immediately.
February 9th, 2015 at 2:03 PM ^
After being released from an LOI, a player has an opportunity to appeal to the NCAA to be immediately eligible.
The recruit has to have a legitimate reason. For example, Eddie Vanderdoes' grandmother had breast cancer and that was his reasoning for wanting to play closer to home. I'm not sure if Weber's reason will be sufficient to get immediate eligibility.
February 9th, 2015 at 2:13 PM ^
Neither of you are actually correct.
If a player is released from his LOI, he can be immediately eligible to play anywhere without any type of appeal. This is what happened to Caris LeVert. (Source here, relevant info right under picture of John Groce.)
In Vanderdoes's case, he wasn't released from his LOI, so he had to transfer to switch schools. Then, to be immediately eligible, he had to appeal to the NCAA. (Source here.)

Time to move on folks. It happened. It's over.
February 9th, 2015 at 1:36 PM ^
Im sorry but he's going to stick with OSU. There are never any consequences for their actions. Things always work in their favor and we just have to deal with it. If for some crazy reason he was going to go elsewhere you would see it posted here.
February 9th, 2015 at 2:21 PM ^
The did get banned from a bowl costing them a chance at another national title. Sounds like a consequence, imo.
February 9th, 2015 at 2:47 PM ^
Yeah you're right there was that one time they had to miss a bowl game. That was a very severe punishment that I'm sure your leaders learned a valuable lesson from. I'm sorry but you can't understand my post because you can't see it from our side.
February 9th, 2015 at 3:31 PM ^
Your side is assuming we're doing something against the rules strictly because we're Ohio State. Am I correct? Or do you have any other facts or evidence of OSU breaking the rules and not being punished? Oh, ok.
February 9th, 2015 at 3:57 PM ^
No our side is assuming that you're supposed to do the right thing in life. Even if there aren't rules against it. Your side is willing to do anything regardless of right or wrong in order to win. Always skirting the rules. Just because you didn't break any rules doesn't mean you did the right thing, but it also doesn't mean their should be consequences. My first post is just expressing that frustration.
February 9th, 2015 at 4:15 PM ^
Man, you guys just offered Burnett, then pulled his offer on his flight home. His own adviser (Keyshawn Johnson of all people) said so. So get out of here with this "do the right thing in life" stuff.
What happened to Weber isn't the "right" thing. Neither is playing a concussed player. Or covering for a rapist in the media. Or trading tattoos for trinkets.
We're all on the same sized horse here, man, you just think yours is higher.

Covering up is a poor choice of words. It was announced to the press that he was suspended for a violation of the student code of conduct policy. Last I checked a sexual assault is not any of the media's business. Especially during an ongoing investiagtion. It is a very sensitive situation and very circumstantial to the victim. At least he was suspended, but hey if you want to throw that jab, didn't Carlos Hyde punch a chick and recieve zero punitive action?
