Mike Weber on a possible UM visit: "I don't think I will."
Per the Det. News. Money quote is at the bottom:
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:30 AM ^
As a number of posters have stated, it's not that big of deal if he doesn't take an OV. It's not over until he signs a LOI. I wouldn't expect JH and company to give up that easily.
Either way, good luck to him.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:24 AM ^
If that were true, every kid with an offer from both would go to OSU. I think the decision making process has a few more variables than that.

But they have yet to hold a practice, name a QB, win a game, or play in a B1G Championship. Meyer hasn't lost a conference game, has two MNCs, and the first true National Championship.
Michigan has a lot of catching up to do to be considered on par with OSU. Let's hope that happens.

I agreee with you, but one nit: why do people keep calling this "the first true national championship"? I mean, there was a 2-team playoff for like 15 years before this year's 4-team playoff. Why is it suddenly legit when it wasn't before?

Why is that relevant?
Urban just had Carlos Hyde go as a top 3 RB in the NFL draft last year and Ezekiel Elliot looked like the best player in CFB over the last 3 games.
I think that's a lot more appealing to a RB recruit than stats about the NFL productivity of Jim Tressel's skill position players...

With Isaac already in the fold I don't think this is as much of a hit as it would otherwise be.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:33 AM ^
And not to take anything away from Isaac, but 1. Weber is a beast 2. He is from a recruiting pipeline school that Michigan needs to keep "flowing" and 3. If he doesn't come here, he ends up at our biggest rival
January 23rd, 2015 at 11:20 AM ^
You could say that for hundreds of other recruits who didn't pan out, but that doesn't mean you stop going after the top talent.

In 2017 Isaac is the only RB with eligibility. If he's as good as we hope, even he could be gone by 2017. I'd very much like an RB in this class, and I'd very much like it to be Weber.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:21 AM ^
I mean, he's been to campus a bazillion times, he's met pretty much all of the recruits, and by then he will have met personally with the relevant coaches. Would he need to confirm that the Diag is still where it was before?
Josh McMillon not visiting campus is a death-knell. Mike Weber not visiting campus is a shrug emoji.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:26 AM ^
This is precisely what I was thinking. Weber doesn't have to take an official to know the program and the coaches. JH and TW will continue to recruit him hard, and he knows everything about A2 already. IF, if, if he is still considering UM, until he actually knows that he's flipping, it makes sense to keep an OH lean publically. IF, if, if he has moved on? Then damn and fuck and happy trails.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:33 AM ^
need some in home visits from the coaches so that his family can interact with the staff for us to have a good chance of flipping him.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:22 AM ^
The main thing is that he has talked to Harbaugh and Wheatley.
I don't consider this news negative at all.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:39 AM ^
Did you get your stuff at a dispensary or on the street?
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:53 AM ^
Nobody gets their shit from the street anymore Don!
Man, you are old school!
Now get off my fucking lawn!
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:59 AM ^
that he thinks Weber will visit, so who knows if Weber is being candid or not.
Given that Harbaugh has devoted as much attention and effort to flipping Weber as any potential recruit, it would be disappointing if Weber declined to take an official here. It would be very unusual for a recruit of his stature to sign with any school without taking an official.

You're missing the excitement of buying stuff and not knowing until you light up whether it's just straight weed or laced with PCP, embalming fluid, or coyote urine.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:24 AM ^
Staff is different, staff can go to him! No visit needed for him to Michigan, Michigan will come to him!
How do you turn down Harbaugh and Wheatley Sr. in your living room, drawing up plays using shoes, pillows, or whatever else they find around your house?
If he goes to OSU after all this, best of luck to him. If not, welcome home Mikey!
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:24 AM ^
The sky isn't falling. We still have a good shot at Clark, Gentry, Wheatley Jr., and several of the Nebraska commits. Outside shot at iman Marshall. Plus, Weber knows UM and I think an in-home with Harbaugh would be as good as a visit.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:25 AM ^
Weber's decision bodes well for a 2016 running back recruit who will see no one ahead of him by the time they are sophmores/juniors. That has to appeal to most top recruits and could be a deciding factor in head-to-head recruiting battles.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:28 AM ^
did Sam Webb say?
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:29 AM ^
Unfortunate news from a one-time commit has temporarily halted today's progress! Improvise and adjust!

With the seemingly ruthless efficiency that this staff has when it comes to hitting the road, making visit and extended offers right now, I really don't consider this a blow to us, particularly because he said he has had contact with Harbaugh and it hasn't moved him to change his mind. It's hard to argue with that really.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:32 AM ^
if he doesn't want to come here, i'm good with it. i want kids who WANT to be here on the team. i'll take 3 stars with attitude all day long......
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:34 AM ^
he decommited I would prefer him elsewhere. I wish him no ill will it just soured me on him.
January 23rd, 2015 at 11:05 AM ^
The way he decommitted really soured me on him. If he had even waited 24 hours it would have been cool, but to do it during a game? If a woman dumps you during a funeral do you want her back? I mean, if Harbaugh wanted him & he came back to Blue, then it's cool... just produce.
As for this season, I think getting a really good RB will be difficult with the depth. Realistically you are 5th on the chart right now (assuming Drake's knee heals.) A RS year, then you're a freshman still behind 4 guys, unless you prove to be better than them all. 2016 will be the time to get a RB or 2 (they'll still probably RS)
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:36 AM ^
Scout rumors about Twitter rumors about him visiting OH this weekend. The mods I follow haven't tweeted that. I don't follow players, is anyone else hearing of an OH visit this weekend?
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:39 AM ^
We already have Green, Isaac and Smith for the next two years, I'm sure Wheatley will land a big time RB next year.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:43 AM ^
Agree its not a huge need for this class thanks to Isaac.

January 23rd, 2015 at 12:02 PM ^
I trust Harbaugh and Wheatley to get the most out of those two. Besides, it's not like Weber is on the same level as a Leonard Fournette. I doubt he was gonna come in and win the job right away.
January 23rd, 2015 at 10:40 AM ^
Meh, seemed like a longshot. I'm sure he'll do fine at OSU, except when he plays UM.
