The fans showed heart too. Props.

I was pretty amazed when I heard it was the largest crowd ever at a Michigan game. I thought for sure it would be low in attendance in comparison.
October 12th, 2014 at 10:36 AM ^
It was not the largest crowd ever at a Michigan game. Under the light 3 vs Notre Dame was the largest ever. It had 115K plus. They were talking about consecutive, not single game. Plus there was not 113K people there last night. There was half a row empty right next to me with several seats with poeple missing here and there. If the capacity is 109K plus and there were poeple missing, they are surely messing with the numbers. NO WAY there were 113K there last night.

Attendance at sporting events never has to do with how many people are actually there, but how many bought tickets. If you bought a ticket, you "attended" the game. That's how the Pistons drew 15,000 fans per game last year.
College football has an extra wrinkle where schools also count all the people given press/field passes (including players, coaches and bands). That's how you can get 113K in a 109K stadium.
October 12th, 2014 at 10:46 AM ^
It wasn't. The record is 115,109 from last year's UTL game. What they announced was "the largest crowd watching a football game anywhere in America today."

to see this . . .

Nowhere near the rocking house that it was in the ND UTL game. Understandable, given the circumstances.

Where I was, the fans were pretty loud. Not the loudest game I've ever attended, but a pretty spirited crowd.
October 11th, 2014 at 11:15 PM ^
I heard a "LETS GO BLUE" chant on Penn State's last drive so they got amped up when it mattered the most. Even got me pumped up in front of my TV

Interesting. On the telecast, they said "109,000". Not sure where they got that from.
October 12th, 2014 at 1:29 AM ^
Yeah that was announced attendance. They don't announce it until the 4th quarter, so if the telecast said 109,000, it was probably a guesstimate based on the fact that the stadium seats 109,901.

The coaches not so much. That is the important distinction.

And this is the current state of our program, where the highlight of the night is a guy dancing and not much else.

I wonder if the Michigan fan who talked to Coach Franklin in the elevator before the game is disappointed.

And the announcer is a piece of shit for relaying it.

Or just doing his job to relate interesting information.

I must have missed it. Deets??

RIght after the INT and ensuing Penn St. TD, Michigan has the ball.
Rod Gilmore starts off by lamenting on how quiet the crowd is, implying the fans are not being supportive of the team.
He then relates a story about how Franklin and Gilmore are on the elevator and a Michigan fan gets on. Franklin jokes about letting the fan have some Penn St. gear, and the fan replies I am rooting for you we need to get rid of our coach. Franklin then talks about what a good guy Hoke is.
Gilmore then says that he is sure many more in the crowd feel the same way.
So long story short, 113k show up to watch a 2-4 team play leads to an ESPN narrative of how our fans are awful.
October 11th, 2014 at 11:51 PM ^
GIlmore is going to relate a story that makes the telecast interesting. Wish it wasn't that way, but that's the way it is.
But that so called "fan" is the worst. It reminds me of one of the worst experiences in my UM fandom, when watching the the UM-ND away game at a house party (a big one; didn't know many of the people), and more than a few "Michigan fans" wanted us to lose b/c they didn't like RichRod and his running QB. I wanted to punch them right in the face.
In any case, due in no small part to their (lack of) support, they got their wish. And here we are, soon to begin another coaching search.
October 11th, 2014 at 11:09 PM ^
Fans will be the reason why we will always be a top team in the conference. Teams that are so high can't sell the game. Even with the controversy, we had 110,000 fans.
Hats off to the fans.
Get a good coach and get some good wins. We will be back in the elite conversation.

Was in the student section, crowd was insanely loud. Haven't been to a game that rowdy since the last UTL.
October 12th, 2014 at 2:02 AM ^
Its nice we can have a crowd many teams enjoy every game, once a year
October 11th, 2014 at 11:19 PM ^
The players rose to the occasion.
