Jashon Cornell names MSU leader

Rather it was lack of roster size and total inexperience on the offensive side of the ball. It would have took a Herculean effort in '08 to continue the bowl tradition with the combination of things that occured. All those with 5th year eligibility took off, and even had they stayed we would have still been using an OL consisting of those that couldn't crack the starting lineup in their previous four seasons. Either way, with one returning starter or 5th year, less-than-stellar players, our team, even using a pro style offense, would have been hard pressed to be a legitimate force. And the defense, although returning many starters, was basically depleted as to numbers. I still do not understand how he could have left the roster with what consisted of basically minus one full class. When you normally have 44-45 defensive players, there is no justifiable answer for having half that number and is the primary reason our defense took a swan dive. Hell, when you have a converted h.s. RB playing matador at the MIKE and continuing to plug holes at a perpinduclar, rather that parallel angle, bad things will happen.
Coaches become great when they have great players. Even with the mass exodus in Bo's first season, that unit turned out more future AAs than any other five year group in Michigan history. Hell, he had a future NFL Hall of fame OL right side; McKenzie, Deirdorf and Mandich, and that's a damn good place to start. Hell the season he lost his starters on the OL and his qb suffered a broken arm, he ended 6-6.
This year Brady will have a semblance of experience, at least enough to show drastic improvement. Look what he was able to do with RR's players, and almost all M fans were disappointed with his recruits, even though when compared to Carr's last full class, the Rivals composite difference was less than a full percentage point. And RR had to recruit just to get enough players on defense to have a legit scrimmage. I agree with the OP that stated "this is the year BH" will have to earn his money.
State's recipe is not exactly new or even complex. They attack constantly, putting the pressure on the offense not to make a mistake. They create mismatches where our young or inexperienced rbs are unable to execute properly against a stronger DE or LBer. This normally results in their dbs not having to cover as long or even that well because the qb is normally under duress. They've simply been outcoaching us, and this is from a guy who didn't have that great of record prior to moving to E.L. Hoke got rid of one of the "apparent reasons," but I also am not certain Funk is doing that great of job either. Frey had much greater success with an OL equally as young and far less touted than the one we fielded last season.
Yes. We're now in the back seat in the rivalry because one random DE announced MSU as his leader 4 months before the season starts.

Can't stomach Mark Dantonio for a second but this kid can do worse...The grench (Dantonio) is the best coach in the B1G and one of the top 10 nationally in my opinion.
This opinion is a dumb one.
The best coach in this conference and the top ONE nationally is Tim Beckman.
You personally asked Tim Beckman that question and that was the answer he gave you. Amirite?
The man dips with impunity. I can respect that.

Needed a good laugh.
You can tell things are not going well, when I realized I have checked in to the blog in over a week....
Michigan fandom is apparently about never giving your own teams credit. Mitch McGary left? We'll be lucky to make the NIT even though we have some of the best guards in the big ten. The football team? They'll lose every game by 50 even though we haven't seen them play a game yet.

that Cornell is getting pretty big, and might be looked at as more of a future interior DL than a pass-rushing DE by Michigan's staff, and we're already pretty stocked on inside guys. If there's anything to that, it might explain why Cornell is looking more seriously elsewhere.

East Lansing is by far the worst place I have ever lived. I can't believe anyone would willingly choose to live there.

Some people love it in EL. I was not one of those people. The pure lack of anything resembling a city was a major downfall IMO. If I had to move back to Michigan for some reason I would only live in GR or AA/Detroit Metro. To me there are really no other "great" places. EL is smack dab in the middle of nothing.

Is this the kid with the top-10 list that keeps changing?
Honestly, I'll care about this when the season actually starts. Kids are fickle.

I'm not sure what you want us to admit about Mark Dantonio. He's a good coach and a douche bag who'll never be more than that unless he cures cancer. Do you want us to say he's God and a saint?
I mean he's a good football coach -- I don't need someone particularly nice, funny, or affable.
Yep, Bizarro World has officially been entered.
Good for them if they get him, but with a 5-star recruit, and considering MSU won't go any more extra lengths to land one than Michigan will, I wouldn't count an April lead for much.
I don't follow all the recruiting articles like some on here do, but wasn't this guy basically an ND lock before this weekend? He was always a long shot to come here, would rather keep him away from Sparty, but he was going to go to ND not UM.
"Lock" is too strong a word for what he was to Notre Dame. They've had success at his high school, but he has always maintained that he wanted to look everywhere.

We need recruits who look beyond the football field and can tell the difference between a great university like the University of Michigan and other schools. If they cannot be convinced over the course of a recruiting visit that what Michigan offers is what they want, then they are probably not going to be a good fit for our program. I like what Hoke brings in terms of character and appreciation of Michigan's values. To an ever increasing extent, I find the negativity of this board so difficult to fathom (and unacceptable) that it is hardly worth reading the comments, with the exception of a few commenters like Magnus and Space Coyote who actually do impart information. I would rather have Hoke with his human qualities than Dantonio with his 60 minutes of unnecessary roughness regardless of the outcomes.
