Final NCAA Committee Seeding Rank for All 68 Teams; Michigan #6, Wofford #61, Texas #25, ASU #40
Villanova will be bounced early.
It's easy to call them for an easy upset but everyone has bad losses. They don't have the greatest of schedules and were obliterated twice by Creighton but they do come from technically a major conference.
I think they'll get further than people think (they'll be popular for an opening weekend upset pick). They'll probably make the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 before being bounced ime
Villanova is the most overrated team in the country. Them being ranked ahead of Michigan is absurd.
witchita state shockers are my pick for most overrated. 'nova's close, but not quite the worst.
Yes sir, I noticed that as well. But the eye test would have told us the same, Louisville was a crime, I thought they'd be a 2.
And as much as we hate Sparty, is the win over UF (with some injuries) worth 2 seeds up for Wiscy over MSU?
This tells me the committee worships at the feet of RPI.
Is this a joke? You can't actually be suggesting that you'd trade in the Big Ten Title to move down two seeds, right?
I read that all wrong
Well that's why I asked, but even so, I disagree that MSU has a better draw. Each one of their first three opponents will be more difficult than ours.

UVA finished three games ahead of Duke in conference and just beat them by 9. There is no good argument for Duke being a more difficult opponent than Virginia.

Jabari Parker.
If you've got a dominant player who has the ability to just completely take over games in the tourney, you will be tough to beat. UVA has no one that scares me. Jabari, on the other hand, is terrifying.

I probably would object to this, but it makes sense from a matchup perspective. Michigan can't make Parker shoot 34% from the field the way UVA did in the two games combined.
If we had McGary I'd love a matchup against Duke. Anyone who can score down low can beat them. Duke's interior defense is so incredibly soft, especially because Parker doesn't play much D for fear of getting into foul trouble. Akil Mitchell and Mike Tobey combined to shoot 7-for-9 in the ACC final. Anthony Gill only shot 1-for-6 but drew a million fouls. (I believe at least 9, maybe more.) Alas, Michigan and Duke are awfully similar teams, but Duke would have the best player on the floor.
That said, I don't believe there's a team in the whole country whose offense UVA can't stop. Anyone who wants to beat UVA had better play good defense - and that's easier said than done despite the lack of individual superstars - because the basket suddenly gets a lot further away.

After which they changed up the offense with obvious results. Michigan isn't the team that lost to Charlotte any more, and UVA isn't the team that lost to UWGB.

Man, did anyone freefall quite like Iowa?
Have you seen them play the last 5 weeks? They lost to Northwestern this week. Northwestern. Penn State beat NW by 20...in Evanston...on senior night.

The only thing positive Iowa's got going for it is that it didn't get blown out in any of those six losses during their swan dive. That and maybe a time machine in the Iowa Physics Department.

...ended up right where we started (pre-season/early season rankings), but what a strange journey it was.
March 16th, 2014 at 10:33 PM ^
But to think we ended up in the exact same spot with the loss of either our #1 or #2 best player (thought process going into the season) is impressive. Most thought GR3 and Mitch - who flirted with the NBA - would be option #1 and #2. Nik was going to step up and be a strong option #3.
Funny how it turned out to be Nik and Caris as 1A and 1B.
Part of the long, strange journey was losing our perceived #1 returning player to injury during the season. It's quite amazing that we ended up a top 10 team after struggling in Puerto Rico during November. Simply amazing.
Since the 1-68 overall seeds have been revealed in 2012, this is Michigan's highest seeding.

So, the two years when Michigan was a 4 seed? OK.
March 16th, 2014 at 11:16 PM ^
They were No. 13 overall in both 2012 & 2013.
So if I'm reading this right, Michigan has the top 15 seed, the top 7 seed, the top 3 seed, and the top 4 seed as likely opponents. That seems a little unfair for the 2nd #2 seed.
Yeah, we did get boned just a bit. In fact, the whole Midwest region seems weirdly seeded.
This is more a message to Wichita St. that the NCAA wants a major draw winning this championship by gawd, and if that means carpetbombing a region to do it then by all means watch out.
March 16th, 2014 at 10:28 PM ^
fuck the NCAA
Nova is a bit overrated, but Syracuse at #10 seems silly to me. They are 2-5 in their last 7, even though a couple of those losses were close. Feels like an upset waiting to happen.
Eh they'll probably fall in the Elite Eight, but that zone is going to ruin OSU.

I weep for the children forced to watch that game.

The Broncos are beathing 'Cuse and OSU
Weird thing to me wasn't SMU ranked #23 maybe 2 weeks ago and now nowhere to be found? I assume RPI was through the floor as this is what the committee seems to be using as their #1 judge after W-L.
Also didnt realize the Minutemen of UMass were such powers - still remember some of their teams from the 90s. Right behind some quality teams in NC and Bucknuts

What about Wichita State? Has anyone watched them play much this year? Undefeated, but they also haven't played another NCAA tourney team since December.

Honestly at this point any team with a A, A-, B+ PF and/or C who has physical gifts is something to be concerned about. I cannot imagine going up against a WIthey type for 40 minutes with Horford and/or Max B contributing 10-20. Morgan would be a somewhat offset defensively at least but you just cant replace what is lost with Mitch. He was ridiculus last year. There is no pick and roll game right now without him other than Morgan at times. Randle from Kentucky would be a nighmare inside with our current state of D. As for PF Robinson is still playing out of position when we have Nik, Caris, Walton (Spike) on the floor and physical forwards give him fits.
It's going to be a tough road for us barring a strange matchup Sweet 16 forward.

SMU still boggles my mind... Ranked 25th going into conference championship week... Committee did a very poor job imo
