Evening March Madness Thread
Mates,
Our earlier March Madness thread is getting a little long and in danger of falling off the main page (which it will with this OP). We still have 4 more games to go in addition to the 4 that are on-going. I note that the Vermont Catamounts are giving doooook a good game, Nebraska is down by 18, and that Purdue is likely to make it out of the first round.
Anyway, happy Friday, happy March Madness.
XM
and a b.s. foul call on a loose ball on vermont, followed by a moving pick shielding a 3 by dook. must be nice to not have to worry about those silly basketball rules.
Nebraska - looks like they will remain 0-for-their-history in NCAA games.
Oakland's win yesterday meant that all 7 D-1 Michigan teams have won a Round of 64 or beyond NCAA game* at some point. Michigan is the only state with more than 4 D-1 schools where 100% of the schools can say that.
-----
* They did win a 16 v 16 play-in game in the 2000s.
i have no connection to oakland univ, but their win yesterday was so cool. it is the epitome of what makes the NCAA's so much fun even when you don't have a dog in the fight.
I was hosting trivia night at a bar yesterday and everyone was going absolutely nuts over the Oakland win.
Evidently they put it on the scoreboard during the Gonzaga-McNeese game and the crowd was watching the screen and not the floor. Mark Few was not too pleased.
kap, that would've been a blast.
The Purdue fans are celebrating their bashing of a 16 seed very loudly. What a day for the Boilermakers. Dream come true.
Somebody should ask them why they're so excited.
didn't they lose the 16 v 1 match-up last year? yep, found it. lost to fairly-ridiculous 63-58 last year
thus does your comment is so spot on.
I am in section 8 row 2. Every time they cheer I just yell FDU.
Imagine screaming when Michigan gets a first down up 60-3 over Hawaii in the second game of the season.
James Madison's turn to take out Wisconsin tonight. Go Dukes!

Made tournament ✅
Scored massive upset ✅
Checks both boxes! Johnny Hinton is going to have a heart attack over this suggestion! 😂
I brought him up a couple of days ago to crickets. I am impressed with him.

The bad-gers put up a whopping 20 points at half time 😂
I was hoping Longwood called themselves the woodpeckers. Alas, it's the Lancers.
Longwood Lancers? I still feel this works for my 14-year-old brain.
can easily see JMU upsetting the badgers. heck, wisconsin lost to us.

JMU was a trendy pick. So much so that it seemed destined to blow up like Nevada and New Mexico and McNeese. But so far so good!

I really wanted to pick Yale over Auburn, but I went against the Ivy League University In The NCAA Tournament First Round Rule, and I suffered for it.

Wisconsin being unable to handle the athleticism of James Madison is pretty funny.

This team won in Breslin this year.

The B1G sucks at basketball this year, they all felt sympathetic towards Juwan and didn’t roster enough guards in solidarity.
March 22nd, 2024 at 10:12 PM ^
and bucky has 8 turnovers in less than 8 minutes of the game.
March 22nd, 2024 at 10:20 PM ^
Guards are important mkay.

James Madison coach needs an interview ASAP

I don't disagree but his whole life has been in the southeast if that matters to either him or us.

Wisconsin on track to score 32 points, nice
March 22nd, 2024 at 10:24 PM ^
13 pts, 9 turnovers. looking good

Apparently Wiscy never received the James Naismith memo that said the object of the game was to put the ball in the peach basket
March 22nd, 2024 at 10:39 PM ^
Badgers, ugh.
March 22nd, 2024 at 10:52 PM ^
Cheeeese kuuurds!!!🧀
March 22nd, 2024 at 10:40 PM ^
Too bad they had that stupid foul. Wisconsin was looking at UVA/CSU territory here.
March 22nd, 2024 at 10:41 PM ^
Greg Gard looks more constipated than usual. Carry on, James Madison.
March 22nd, 2024 at 10:54 PM ^
Couldn't happen to a more deserving douche canoe.
March 22nd, 2024 at 10:43 PM ^
This better be one hellofa half time speech in the Wisconsin locker room…

Big ten is so mediocre. Purdue might be good but against grambling who had no size, seemed too difficult a hill for them to climb. We'll see.
And we were 19 pegs below every other team in conference. Yeesh
March 22nd, 2024 at 10:45 PM ^
Badgers fortunate to be down 13. Last made field goal was at 7:03. After that was 5 made free throws.

My New Coaching Hot Board:
1. Mark Byington
2. Gregg McDermott
3. Shaka Smart
4. Dusty May

FWIW I looked up the JMU AD. Unfortunately he started as AD there in 1999 and is retiring at the end of this academic year.

Ragusin got jobbed. Gomez stood tall. Davison is on the verge of a huge upset to reach the finals v Kerkvliet (OSU/PSU.)
March 22nd, 2024 at 11:09 PM ^
Role reversal here.
March 22nd, 2024 at 11:15 PM ^
Utah State looks like a pretty well coached team, I would give Danny Sprinkle a look. Though maybe not quite a long enough resume as a HC.
March 22nd, 2024 at 11:27 PM ^
JMU going to try to win this game without scoring again. Probably not a good idea.
March 22nd, 2024 at 11:34 PM ^
One ref is making a bunch of sus calls for Wisconsin. JMU fighting thru it.
March 22nd, 2024 at 11:42 PM ^
The fouls against JMU do seem softer than what Wisconsin gets to do.
Edit: Well, they just called that one on Wisconsin.
March 22nd, 2024 at 11:43 PM ^
Definitely would talk to Mark Byington as a potential candidate. JMU looks like a well coached team on both ends of the floor.
March 22nd, 2024 at 11:47 PM ^
JMU was stupid underseeded. Tough tough draw for Wiscy.
March 23rd, 2024 at 12:02 AM ^
That is the truth. 31-3. Ranked during the season (apparently). Deep, athletic lineup that plays super hard

Mgoblue96, I dare you to say that to Johnny Hintz’s face
