If You Think Firing Harbaugh Is The Answer, You're An Idiot.

He is far and away the best coach we're going to get and it's not even close.

Harbaugh said “I thought our team was well prepared. I thought they were playing good football. I thought it was a good football fight, and it got away from us today. Give them credit for playing well."

If what happened scores on high on the well-prepared meter for Harbaugh, than he needs to go because his standards are way too low and he doesn’t work for the rivalry the way OSU does.

I understand Hoke beat an OSU team in a down year for them but at least he got under their skin so easily and took the rivalry seriously.

It got away from Michigan because of mistakes.  The Shea fumble +3 FG, the Hudson punt offsides -7 OSU, the DPJ TD drop -4 Mich.  Michigan is up at halftime without those mistakes that aren't preparation-related.

If Haskins follows his blocker on 4th &1, he likely ends up in OSU territory with Michigan trailing by less than a FG.

A wise coach lets all of that go unsaid.

Under Dabo, Clemson lost to South Carolina (their rival) in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.  During that period, South Carolina was not even remotely as good as Ohio State has been.

It took Dabo Swinney 5 years to get Clemson to 11 wins in a season and 8 years to get to CFP level.

You folks badmouthing Harbaugh would put Michigan in a carousel of Hokes and RichRods, and it only takes a few revolutions of that until you ruin the program enough that you can't get good coaches anymore even if you can find one.

Those first 5 years of Dabo Swinney spawned the term "Clemsoning":

Here is Dabo Swinney in 2015 explaining what he thinks about that term:

https://youtu.be/6BgEa1K9eXI

Clemsoning

1. The act of failing miserably on a grand athletic stage, or when the stakes are high. 2. Record-setting failure, usually reserved for college football.

There was an epic example of clemsoning when Clemson hosted Florida State in a highly anticipated football game on October 19, 2013. Clemson was ranked 3rd, while Florida State was ranked 5th. Florida State won the game 51 - 14. Clemson set a NCAA record for margin of defeat by a home team ranked #3 or higher. The 51 points scored by Florida State is the most points ever allowed by a Clemson opponent on Clemson's home field. Most of the home team fans could not take the clemsoning any longer and left the game mid way through the third quarter.

Y'all act like the key to getting recruits like OSU is just a paycheck...I don't doubt there's shady shit going on down there sometimes but don't act like they aren't the benefactor of a couple decades of consistent success and a sycophantic fanbase in one of the most talent rich parts of the country. There just isn't the same level of talent in our backyard, and until recently we've had to compete not only with OSU for the ones we have but also that grumpy dope over in Lansing, not to mention the USCs and NDs.

Those kids don't need a dime to go to OSU, they grew up dreaming about it the same way their dads and their grandfathers did. Maybe Michigan had that kind of cache in the 90s, but the Rodriguez and Hoke years sure shot that all to shit if it wasn't already dead by the tail end of Carr's tenure.

You can bitch all you want about what we EXPECT but the lucky bastards were stable enough and built a damn empire while we spent the last decade screwing around with Gerg's fuzzy beaver, Josh Groban and a sleeveless aww shucks handclapper.

We really f-ed ourselves over trying to remake the wheel here and I think we fooled ourselves thinking just one coach, the RIGHT COACH is going to build us back to their level.

We can keep dumping good coaches and throwing shit against the wall hoping it sticks, but just wait and see what the constant carousel does to recruiting.

Is this where I point out that Michigan’s GSR is 87 percent, the best in the east, and Ohio State’s is 64 percent?

This staff is getting young men degrees from the top public university in the country while playing high-caliber football. I wish that mattered more to some of you.

I don't really know what the answer is in terms of firing or not firing.  If coach X (anyone not named harbaugh) was 0-5 against OSU with 3 of those losses being absolutely embarrassing blowouts, would that coach have a job at Michigan at the end of year 5?  I'd say probably not. Has Harbaugh returned respectability to the program, sure.  It was pretty dire there for a while between richrod and hoke.  If Auburn can find a way to compete with the likes of Alabama, Michigan should surely be able to give OSU a game and come out on the right end of things from time to time.

If you think Jim is all there, you are an idiot. The guy is going through something. He's not the same great coach he was ar Stanford or San Francisco. Go back and watch interviews. He could talk coherently then.
