All 5 Hoops Starters All-B1G, Iggy FOY
Men's basketball tweeting out honors:
For the first time in 34 years Michigan has five Wolverines awarded All-Big Ten honors
Ignas Brazdeikis, 2nd team (C&M) Zavier Simpson, 2nd team (C&M) Jordan Poole, HM (C&M) Jon Teske, HM (C&M) Charles Matthews (M)
Iggy is the freshman of the year and also obviously on the All-Freshman team.
Bummer of a way to end the year but we've got some ballers to appreciate. Onward and upward!
Michigan's B1G Freshman of the Year Award winners-
- 1985-86: Gary Grant
- 1991-92: Chris Webber
- 1994-95: Maurice Taylor
- 1999-00: LaVell Blanchard
- 2002-03: Daniel Horton
- 2011-12: Trey Burke
- 2018-19: Ignas Brazdeikis
Iggy is our first All-Freshmen team selection since Derrick Walton in 2013-14.
Zavier Simpson was also just named to the B1G All-Defensive team. Here's everyone who has ever been named to that team at Michigan. There aren't many.
- 2007-08: Ekpe Udoh
- 2012-13: Jordan Morgan
- 2018-19: Zavier Simpson
Isaiah Livers given the B1G Sportsmanship Award
How on earth have we only had 3 players ever on the all defensive team??? That stat is insane.
There must have been some defensive beasts in the B1G when Gary Grant was playing.
Gary Grant was Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 1986-87 and 1987-88. It looks like they didn't start naming an entire team until 2005-2006.

You mean Zack Novak
Gary Grant was my all time favorite!

Come on, I thought Iggy should have gotten the Sportsmanship Award /s
No DPOY for Z?
Michigan's going to the Final Four again on that disrespect.
Bigger disrespect is Teske, Matthews and Poole ALL being just honorable mention.
No one on the third team for us.
That is criminal and laughable, especially with Nick Ward being named third team! He's not even the best big on his team!
Threw the kid a bone for being injured.
I agree on Teske and Matthews but it's a 14 team murderconference and both coaches and media tend to distribute selections across the league as much as they can justify.
Honestly, you could put Teske, Matthews, Poole, Livers, and Eli Brooks up against the coaches' third team, and I'd like Michigan's chances. I don't think it would be a high-scoring game, but PG is the only position that I'd be confident the All Big Ten team would have an advantage.
Teske for sure, he was a difference maker all year. Matthews had some brutal stretches but was a solid defensive presence. Poole, quite frankly, can hopefully use this as motivation to improve the many holes in his game. He's fun to watch, but he's pretty much "just a shooter" at this point. (Queue the guy who's about to show me his and-1 transition dunk)
It doesn't have a DPOY from the media listed---do only the coaches vote on that? And also, the coaches voting Josh Reaves as DPOY... LOL
Yep, not a great finish but I’m over that. Hope we get Sparty again in the B1G tourney. Not gunna lie, glad we got the prime time game Friday. Go Blue!
No way. I hope Indiana beats them a third time.
Bummer of a way to end the year
The year isn't over. If you think it is, it just makes Beilein more prepared to prove you wrong.
Years not over...go get it guys!
Matthews not making Defensive team is an injustice---over McQuaid and Eastern. Though Roby should be on that team as well.
100%. The dude is a beast on D.
Full list below for coaches and media. Unanimous dudes in CAPS.

Zavier Simpson or Charles Matthews over Josh Reaves for DPOY.
The fact that Matthews isn't on the All-Defensive Team is a pretty big oversight.
especially when I consider Matthews the best defender on the team. He can guard 1-4 and often guards the best player on any given nights.

Reaves is a good defender; I wouldn't have given him DPOY but I can see the argument about a guy who is a ballhawk and a bit of a chase down blocker on a team that doesn't have much other defensive talent around him. But Matthews not making all-defense is insane to me.
And most back next year!
This team has far exceeded pre-season expectations. Speaks to great coaching and players willing to put in the effort to be their best.
As disappointing as the end of the regular season has been, it's important to keep things in perspective. Before the season started I never would have expected all of the success that this team has had. Having said that I'm still so excited to see what they can do in the tournaments. Go blue!
This is our time of year. Let’s light these brackets up!!!

Quite a tribute for our starting 5.
Honorable mention all-conference in any sport is stupid.
You seem some really average talent show up there.
There are 14 goddamn teams honorable mention counts.
"Honorable mention" still counts as being on an All-Conference team?
