”Yow. Some serious news out of Michigan State:

What was billed as maybe a dislocated finger for Nick Ward is now known to be a hairline fracture in his hand. Ward is out for an unknown amount of time. MSU says it hopes he will return before the end of the season.”

Gotta think he’ll miss the first matchup on the 24th

You just lost to penn state. Lmao. I would temper your enthusiasm.  Oh and 16 (!) years of ankle-breaking 114-63 type dominance says hi

Lol.  I don’t talk much smack about football.  We had a great 10 year stretch ... I freely admit we have been historical dogshit since the late 60s absent that.

Id love it if you could make a similar admission. I also don’t recognize the late 80s / early 90s in your hoops program as Ed Martin was using it like a casino and created the biggest scandal in NCAA history.

I have a profound amount of respect for coach B ___..... but let’s admit that you’re taking 2013-present or 5 years and making it into more than it is   As you said -see also : football

You can bring up football when MSU:

1. gets in double digits for Big Ten Championships.

2. Evens out the 70-36-5 record against Michigan.

3. Achieves a winning record against one of the following: Michigan, Wisconsin, penn state, Ohio state, Nebraska, Iowa.

4. Have a heisman winner.

5. Have the highest winning pct%

Until one of those happens...no, you cannot bring up football...

I watched most of this game (before Ohio St. was pitiful and couldn't do anything but get trounced by subpar Sparty players) and don't recall Ward doing anything or having anything happen to him in the 1st half.  Then he's wearing that out of the gate to begin the 2nd half.  Others mentioned  it but I've a feeling this was self-inflicted.  In which case, sorry not sorry, really poor decision making...don't punch walls dipshit.

To be fair, I broke my thumb (hairline fracture) playing soccer when I came down and landed with my thumb.  Probably didn't look like a big deal.  He's a big guy strong guy so any time he falls or even slams, he could cause a break like this.

Acting like it's reasonable that the only way he broke it is dumb.  Joking that the only reasonable way he broke it is by punching something or slapping the floor is funny however.

The game against Staee will still be an all out war. Even without Ward they have enough talent to beat Michigan.

dang, bummer for the kid, although i don’t like him all that much as a player.  hope he gets back for sparty’s 2nd round loss.

more than that, i’m dreading izzo’s “woe is me” bullshit and crocodile tears.  has he pre-thrown ahrens under the bus yet?

This will be an excuse. I think you greatly unersestimate their ability to make additional excuses. No matter what happens though, I can tell ya with certainty who is faultless, their fearless leader/excuse maker tom. I mean, how is possibly expected to win with the weird guys he recruited to his team? It really is their fault they get performance anxiety from getting screamed at constantly.

Fuck Sparty, but it is a fact that two of their best 3 players are out and it will be easier to beat them than it would have otherwise been.  If their douche-bag fans and coach want to whine about it, let them...It really makes no difference to us after the games have been played.  People on this board complaining because "they are going to make excuses" need to find a hobby, or explain to me why that somehow matters.

How big now is the Minnesota road game?  With Ward out this game could be the defining game if we re to win a  Regular season crown..Given our conference road woes this game just became GINORMOUS..Purdue has 4 road games left If we can somehow find a way to beat a Desperate Minny team on the road and beat MSU at home we can take control of the regular season however we havent exactly been good in conference road games so Im quitet nervous about this game

This Minnesota game scares the heck out of me.  Michigan's remaining schedule is brutal.  The easiest game is the home game against Nebraska that could be an easy trap game between Minnesota (if they survive) and State.

Good news, is that Michigan will need to be in Tournament mode now if they want to win the regular season.

I feel spoiled now days.  Went from trying to figure out how many games to make the tournament to which games they need to help secure a banner and potential 1 or 2 seed.  4 losses in the last years time frame against close to 40 wins is insane.

I'm not going to encourage anybody to worry about a basketball game. But if I were you, I'd take another look at our 2018-19 road conference results and then check out the last half-dozen games against Minnesota. Then maybe re-calibrate your expectations. Pitino's Gophers give us trouble every single time, including an OT loss last time we played them @ Minnesota.

I think a lot of us are saying that MSU shouldn't use this as an excuse were here in 2015 and 2016. Michigan had some injuries and MSU swept Michigan those years. When we discussed the injuries, MSU fan replied, "Injuries are no excuse." Now those same MSU fans are going to be using the injury excuse, right or wrong.

Izzo loves to use excuses like this. He'll come out and say, "this isn't an excuse, but..."

Yes, we used the injury excuse in 2015 and 2016 and we were ripped by MSU fans for doing it.

JB never used the injury excuse,

After one of LeVert's foot injuries (don't remember if it was his junior or senior year) Izzo decided to weigh in for some reason and basically blamed LeVert for getting injured, saying he must have trained badly or something.  Just a total ass.

It's a shame for Ward to break his hand, no doubt.  But do I feel bad for Izzo right now?  Hell no.

Maybe even a little Beilein criticism sprinkled in....

"What makes me sad - and this is what I think we really have to look at - (is) that is an over-use injury. That was not an injury because something happened. That was an over-used, over-worked injury, and you're seeing more of those stress fracture breaks. If you read anything about that kid with (Nik) Stauskas that summer, it was morning, noon and night working on his game. God love him."

I was looking forward to seeing how Teske played against Ward.  Teske seems to have gotten better over the year against aggressive big men but the more he sees that the better, for tourney time.  With that said, I was a bit fearful of the match-up as well - seems like a lot of our opponents' big men get away with murder down low while Teske gets tagged for touch fouls.
