OT: Happy Valentine's Day Posbang

Submitted by boliver46 on February 14th, 2019 at 1:17 PM

Today I find myself with my heart very full.

A loving wife who I dote on, and who (somehow??) also dotes on me.

Our eldest son (13) is having his first Valentine's Day with his very first girlfriend...and I am living vicariously through this young man today...

I know CSB and all that, but I thought spreading a little bit of positivity can't hurt!

This is a day to let your special someone know that you love them and appreciate them and are happy they are in your life.

OR for those of you who celebrate Singles Awareness Day, maybe it means wearing all black, watching sappy movies, eating multiple boxes of chocolate that you bought yourself, doing shots of Tequila, and maybe crying.....a lot.

OR maybe it's somewhere in between for you.

IDK - just felt compelled to post and wish the best for everyone today!

Besides....

I didn't read the books, but come on, man. This show is right up there with Breaking Bad as one of the best ever made. Great drama, phenomenal acting, suspense and betrayal at every turn. What's not to like?

You remind me of all the people who said the LOTR movies sucked compared to the books. Well, the movies got nominated for and/or won Best Picture every year, and GoT gets nominated for and wins slews of Emmys every single year. So they must be doing something right, or you just have poor taste in TV.

What I am wary of watching is their GoT prequel series that will come out in the next few years. I think that is going to be to GoT what Better Call Saul is to Breaking Bad. Okay, decent, but not that good. In part because it will never be able to live up to its predecessor.

I'll weigh in since I've read the books and watched the show.  Show>>>>>books. Too many characters and narratives in the books. GRRM painted himself into a corner splitting the last book out geographically.  Show producers did him a favor by showing him the way out. If & when he ever gets around to actually finishing another book.

But I will disagree with you on Better Call Saul.  It's one of my current favorites. Not as good as BB but better than most of what's out there.

I don't dislike Better Call Saul, and it definitely has its moments. But this last season was really slow and almost completely uneventful. I think that part of the larger issue with Better Call Saul, is that no matter what it will always fall short. Because it will always be compared to Breaking Bad, and that is an impossible standard to live up to. Same thing will happen with the Netflix movie they're coming out with that will focus around Jesse's escape.

I think the same thing will happen with the GoT prequel series. Could be good, and if it was completely by itself and had no ties to GoT it may even be great. HBO seems to always produce quality shows. But it will have an impossible act to follow, so it will never be what GoT is/was. Those kinds of shows just don't come around very often.

I was expecting this post from Xtra. I made sure to get the flowers delivered, Shari’s Berries, and Lobster, crab legs and crab cakes for the seafood feast.

senior night for the hoops team, oldest son and son #2 play together, need to make it to the game as they intro the parents of the seniors.  one last time for the two of them together.  little misty about that.

as to valentine's day, have done nothing but i might stop and get some sushi to take home to beloved mgowife since i'm pretty sure we just settled a case that was in trial.  the other side found their checkbook after they had a rough day in court yesterday.

we have been blessed with a greater than average # of kids and that is no doubt related to the strength of the marriage.  mrs. XM walks on water as far as i am concerned.

The wife and I are watching our calories to help with the heart attack recovery, so I got her Yellow roses, a sentimental card and dried fruit (apricots, dates and cherries) to make the morning oatmeal more palatable.  I also got her a 3 CD set of Bernadetto Marchello sonatas for organ and harpsichord - (one of her favorite composers).

Doesn't that sound extra exciting for old folks?

I don't know _WHY_ my brain reminded me of this video's existence … but this video belongs here.

After all, no Valentines Day is complete without … Louie Caporusso?!?

I long ago released my husband from having to get me something on Valentine's Day. The best thing he does for me is pick up a diet coke at 7-11 after he drops off our daughter at school. I really don't want anything else except for him to be thoughtful every now and again.

It is both Valentine's Day and the birthday of my oldest child, so it's a big deal in our household. My daughters all get a carnation, and my wife gets a bouquet. She already took our oldest out for birthday stuff earlier.

My wife and I have been married for 15 years and it's still awesome, FWIW.

Celebrating with friends tonight on Marco Island, FL with my wife of 38 years. Love her today as much as I did when we were kids.

Our second to the last night here! Hate to go home to the cold and snow but it had to happen sometime. It’s been fantastic here!
