I don’t like the precedent of his behavior of touching others. Not sure why it’s too much to try and make sure he understands that you take this kind of thing seriously. If he doesn’t like it, he can try and work elsewhere. But I’d definitely be asking more of him than “don’t do it again.”

I take any sort of violence against women very seriously. We need to put an end to this behavior. Employers acting in preventative manners is one way to do so.

My general feeling is that if you hit anyone you should be punished.  The fact it was a woman is sort of irrelevant.

What people tend to forget is that KC knew about his various incidents before it came to light; they didn't really care all that much because Hunt was a good player for them.  They only cut him when the video surfaced.

I get it's a violent sport, and people get into fights and do dumb shit.  But you aren't "owed" a job in the NFL and, honestly, I'd have hoped there would have been a bit more of a punishment for what seems to be a pattern of outsized, off-the-field violence.

We don't know the facts, but in the article it mentions they knew of them, which likely means they followed up with local police and staff, or at the very least Hunt himself.  A guy who keeps finding himself in scrapes is showing a pattern even if it doesn't follow with an arrest.

Also, the kicking occurred in February and the chiefs cut him in November.  They had seen and heard about yh incident at the very least.

Could see this coming. Hunt is way too good of a player not to have on the roster. Great fit for Mayfield and system.

Hate to break it to some people but this wasn't domestic violence. This was a scuffle. Not saying penalties weren't warranted, i.e, suspension.

He lied. Wow. That must be the first time a human being has lied to protect their financial and career interests.

Exactly. This was not domestic violence. She was a girl who he met earlier that day, and she would not leave him alone all night. He kept rejecting her because she wasn't old enough to be hanging out with them, and she called him a "nigger" (reason I typed that was to illustrate what actually occurred). He then kicked her when she fell on the ground from his friend falling into her. Afterwards, she claimed he raped her, which was false, and then charges were dropped.

At a maximum it was assault, but it was not domestic in nature, as it was two strangers having a confrontation. Not defending Kareem's actions, but this is not the same thing as Ray Rice as the public has tried very hard to make it out to be

You’re not defending his actions but you’re defending his actions but you’re not defending his actions. As long as its not a domestic, then assault is fine if you don’t know the person.

Not saying it's okay at all. But to act like context is irrelevant is just dumb. That's not how the world or judicial system works.

I'm simply illustrating why the confrontation occurred. You don't just go "this is what occurred - no background information is necessary"

There's a huge difference between KO-ing your GF for a disagreement and a black person becoming agitated over a stranger calling him a nigger point blank in his face. I'm not saying the assault was okay, but it's important to know the facts of the case

I think Kareem should sit be suspended for the year, and do something within the Cleveland community to show he has changed (new team is Cleveland, home town is Cleveland, and the incident occurred in Cleveland, so it's a great opportunity).

I agree with you although can you edit and use the N word. I understand the point you are making by actually typing the word. As a white person I find the whole N word be uttered verbally or in writing as inciteful.

I actually wish that people of color would stop using that word. I also understand the point which is to embrace some derogatory term and use it on your own terms. That being said, I hate that word. Makes my skin crawl.

For the record, I wouldn't outlaw it. Just don't promote it. Isn't there a derogatory word for Jews? I don't like that word. I don't like the N, K or W or B words off the top of my head. :)

I'm not sure how context is needed.  An NFL running back hitting or kicking any woman doesn't need a lot of context.  Chick won't leave you alone?  Leave.  Call an Uber.  Get security.  You have to do better.  I hope he learns from his mistake because someone is going to test him, either out of hate or just looking for a payday.

He did leave and she followed him. This happened outside his hotel room, so I agree he should have just went back in the the room and hoped for her to leave. He does have to do better. If you watch the film, he only became irate when she went into his face and called him a nigger. Before that he was trying to reason with her.

But context absolutely does fucking matter. Context always matters. There's a reason why there are degrees of assault and murder.

I actually have a mutual friend of Kareem who lives in Cleveland, last Summer she said that I need to visit Cleveland sometime when Kareem is in town and we would all go in a boat and kind of party for a day. I'm going to assume that that offer is still on the table, and I will not accept if it comes up again. I don't want to hang out with that guy now that I know more about him. But the man just does not deserve to be blackballed for the rest of his career over this specific incident

This seems like a big deal for the Browns. Guy was pretty legit before risking his career in a random hotel room....if he learned from his mistakes, this could make the Browns pretty legit. Or it could blow up bigly on them.

i know this is off topic, and noted so.  But why post this?  Is this even remotely relevant?  If any NFL team picks up and player, do we post it here as OT?  This seems, i don't know, out there?!?!?!

I believe in second chances. Hopefully there is strict rules he must abide by. Time will tell if he learned his lesson.

Isn't one of the cases against him from Cleveland? Perhaps the Browns have some information in regards to it. I like what they're doing in Cleveland. I think it was smart to sign him early. It's a good risk to take. The PR hit shouldn't be bad considering it's Cleveland and no one really cares about them or what they do.

A reclamation project with a huge potential upside for a small salary hit? There are probably a few teams that should be asking themselves why they weren't in on this.

You couldn't make this move in some markets, and making the move in no way excuses of mitigates Hunt's past actions obviously, but in the business of the NFL, it would be spectacularly hard to turn down an all-pro RB when you need an all-pro RB.

Smart move, in my mind.

The guy is arguably top-5 in the league at his position, and at this point the Browns can get him for dirt cheap. He'll probably still be suspended for at least 25% of the year if not more, but if the Browns are pushing for the playoffs in November-December, he could be huge for getting them over that hump when he gets back. Also, what do they really have to lose? They were decent last year without him. They could be lethal with him. And they're the Browns. Their public perception as a competent organization isn't very good anyway, so if this doesn't work out, what will be said about the Browns that hasn't already been said?

Also great timing considering Pittsburgh's offense is about to be gutted, the Bengals are a disaster, and you don't really know what you've got in Baltimore. If Cleveland finds a way to not screw things up, they could be positioning themselves for a big run here.

I would love to hear the rationale for signing a guy who got booted 3 months ago for repeatedly kicking a woman this early in FA if you didn't plan on giving every opportunity to see the field.  You think the Browns want bad PR for the hell of it?

footballguy

You said he had to miss "a whole half season". I'm just saying that isn't necessarily true. It could be a lot more. He is signed by the Browns with the intention of playing, but to say he will miss only a half season isn't necessarily true.

Kareem Hunt did something bad.  On the scale of bad stuff done by NFL players in recent years, it seemed somewhat middling, mostly because some of the other stuff was REALLY bad.  But it was caught on tape and the timing was not good.

Compared to the guy cold-cocking his girlfriend/fiance in the elevator and then dragging her around, this seemed like a different level of "awful".  And the NFL was ready to just sweep that under the rug until the video got out.

I'm not saying Hunt is a great guy or deserves to suffer no consequences.  But seems like saying he could never play again would be beyond the scope of what he did.

Perkis-Size Me

So a guy makes a mistake and deserves to never be allowed to play the game again?

I'm not condoning Hunt's actions and he should be held accountable for what he did, but you're acting like he cold-cocked the girl a la Ray Rice or Joe Mixon. If Joe Mixon is playing in this league, there is zero reason Kareem Hunt shouldn't be.

Hunt pushed her 4-5 times.final time basically throwing her to the ground

Then after,Hunt and the woman were restrained by multiple people,Hunt came running out of the hotel room and kicked the woman again, this woman was visibly hurt and was in a cowering position and the POS  broke through a couple guys to run and kick her while she was down....

Listen to Karrem Hunts very first interview after "he got caught"   you will hate this guy

Yes Kareem Hunt should never be allowed to play NFL football again ,If a teacher hits a student, they should never be allowed to teach again,if an airline pilot is caught drunk driving they should never be allowed to fly a plane again ...

Kareem Hunt should go to jail or this, but we all know he wont ...

Browns arent winning any playoff games in the near future,The AFC is loaded with much better teams,(talent wise) Houston.KC,Pats.Colts,Jax (once they find ANY other QB), Chargers,Tenn etc

Last years Browns were ranked 26  overall in  off + defensive eff %

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/cle/

Browns gave up the 3rd most yards on defense last year, were in the bottom 1/3 in sacks allowed,

Baker stats not as impressive as some seem to think...

In Baker Mayfields 13 starts the Cleveland Browns had the 2nd lowest avg plays per drive (4.99) and produced the least amount of 1st downs in the NFL ...17 of Mayfields 27 passing TDs were on drives started INSIDE the opp 35 yard line ,turnover, bad punt, good return etc

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/cle/2018.htm

Browns are FAR from being a great team.... i say 6-10 this year
