Exit O'Maury Samuels Comment Count

Brian December 12th, 2018 at 1:24 PM

Per Steve Lorenz, O'Maury Samuels has been booted:

Samuels got scattered carries as a backup the past couple years as Michigan had crowded backfields. Karan Higdon's departure was going to open the door for a third player to join presumed platoon members Chris Evans and Tru Wilson; Samuels's departure removes an option.

Christian Turner, Zach Charbonnet, and maybe Hassan Haskins (who played some linebacker) or Michael Barrett (who's practiced at both viper and slot receiver but was a hell of a running QB in high school) will now vie for those snaps. Turner looked slippery and tough to bring down in some cameo snaps this year; Charbonnet is flying up recruiting lists and might end up a five-star.

What a truly unfortunate situation, I had a lot of hope for this guy but if the allegations are true then I am happy the program took swift action.  Don't think I have ever seen a more ripped high schooler than him.  His pic in his hello post was insane.

Michigan football dismissed O'Maury Samuels on Wednesday, one day after the running back was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence.

Samuels faces two misdemeanor charges, one for domestic violence and one for malicious destruction of property, according to court records.

The incident occurred Saturday and was reported by a University of Michigan police detective. No other details about the incident were immediately available.

The sophomore from New Mexico appeared in at least five games for the Wolverines this season. He had 13 carries for 66 yards in a backup role.

Michigan announced his dismissal Wednesday afternoon and did not comment further on the reason for his departure.

With the OL seeming to get things together (knock on wood) I just hope next year we have a home run RB getting snaps.

we need more chunk plays.

Am I the only person who thinks this is a problem with the ideal of "innocent until proven guilty"?  Or am I just naive??

I mean an accusation serious enough to get you into court can be alleged by almost anyone living with a significant other.

And  there is no need to turn a blind eye or something.  Something on the order of being suspended from the team until your legal case is resolved one way or the other seems like a much more appropriate punishment.

That's a shame.  I was always enamored by his athleticism and lets be honest, dude is jacked.  Too bad it never got to materialize at UM.

I don't know why but I have a feeling this wasn't his first doghouse moment with Harbaugh.  I have no proof but it feels a little knee jerk when it's just an accusation and if that's all that has happened in his career.  just a thought.
