Yes, we ALSO play basketball

I know the young lady means well, but does the sign in the stands "Yes, we're a basketball school now" bother anyone else?

It implies to me that we stopped being a football school, which I know she doesn't mean. FFS, we're 10-2 and ranked 8th in the country in football.

So, we're ALSO pretty damn good at basketball.

Thoughts?

Ignorance and stupidity. It's nice having yoir football and basketball teams BOTH in the top ten rankings.

Whoever held that sign up is an attention whore and disrespects both the basketball and football programs.

You know, I don't know why we or any other school should need to choose. We can certainly do well enough in both. I mean, I don't think the sign was meant to disparage football, but to celebrate how good we are in hoops.

We can bitch about the Ohio State game last week and all that, but you can do well enough in both sports, or in Michigan's case, in many more beyond those two.

You can be both a football school and a basketball school.

Hell, Florida won NCs in both in the same academic year.

I've been watching Michigan sports since the 70's.  Not once did I have to choose between watching Michigan football and Michigan basketball.  They do not compete with each other, and they do not play at the same time.

And you cant blame anyone in the fan base for feeling this way. I think last week was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Make or break next year for Harbaugh even though some folks have anointed him untouchable for the next 20 years.

There are almost zero basketball schools in the P5. Perhaps only Duke, Kansas, UK and Indiana. Even terrible football schools with better basketball teams regard themselves as football schools. Because that's the nation's sport/identity.

The UNC, Purdue, Illinois, and UCLA fans I know consider theirs to be football schools. They prefer basketball for its success but would rather succeed in football.

I did leave out Arizona as a bball school, though. I don't know those people but it does feel like a good guess.

Nevertheless, "P5 bball school" remains an exclusive group. 5 or so schools. Maybe as many as 7, max.

Teske shooting 3's is the equivalent of Harbaugh putting Evan's, DPJ, Nico and Black on the field at the same time without a fullback or tight end

Would totally blow is mind, but Beilein does it because hes not beholden to the past

I am stunned.

Way too early, but we look like the best team in the county by some margin.

I know everyone else is going to up their game as the season goes on, but... wow...

Are you guys kidding here?  I mean, the whole 'we're a basketball school now' thing has been going on since LAST YEAR!!!  And now, all of a sudden, after one friggen sign, everyone has their panties bunched over this?  WTF???

Doesn't bother me at all. Michigan's performance in The Game was a disgrace. Heck even NW is currently giving the Buckeyes a game. 10-2 doesn't mean much if you can't beat your rival but once in 15 years. Basketball has accomplished more in the modern era, certainly in the last 30 years.
