Redshirts Officially Burned (only 3)

I wonder if Nordin returns?
November 28th, 2018 at 5:17 PM ^
Michigan offers four-year scholarships, kickers rarely if ever transfer, so....yes. He'll likely be back. Has no reason to leave even if he's not playing.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:20 PM ^
Kickers transfer. Just like any other position and for the same reasons. Andrew David never saw the field here and is at TCU.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:33 PM ^
A scholarship kicker not kicking and losing his job to a freshman is not a reason to transfer?
Ryan Tice?
November 28th, 2018 at 5:21 PM ^
No indication to date.
November 28th, 2018 at 9:52 PM ^
Dollars to donuts when he transfers you'll say that this was expected.
November 29th, 2018 at 2:00 AM ^
My inside sources say he'll stay, but if he doesn't stay then he'll go.
November 29th, 2018 at 10:50 AM ^
Clarity at its finest. Thank you.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:13 PM ^
I don’t recall seeing BVS out there at all. Was he on special teams?
November 28th, 2018 at 5:18 PM ^
According to MGoBlue:
Freshman (2018)
• Made his U-M debut at fullback against Western Michigan (Sept. 8) and also saw snaps there against SMU (Sept. 15)
• Played on special teams against Nebraska (Sept. 22), Northwestern (Sept. 29)
November 28th, 2018 at 5:19 PM ^
I couldn't recall either but I found this on his MGoBlue page:
Freshman (2018)
• Made his U-M debut at fullback against Western Michigan (Sept. 8) and also saw snaps there against SMU (Sept. 15)
• Played on special teams against Nebraska (Sept. 22), Northwestern (Sept. 29)
EDIT: GMTA, I Like Burgers!
November 28th, 2018 at 5:20 PM ^
Having other impact freshmen would be nice and all but NCAA Dynasty Mode me likes getting redshirts on 17 dudes.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:56 PM ^
I loved how you could literally cut anybody on the roster in NCAA.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:14 PM ^
The off-the-field player incident management system was my favorite.
Star WR involved in a bar fight? Better suspend the late-for-class punter for the season to keep the NCAA off your back.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:24 PM ^
....and at bama!
November 28th, 2018 at 8:36 PM ^
God I miss having that game. Could just promise national titles to every recruit and rack up #1 recruiting classes like they're candy.
November 28th, 2018 at 9:01 PM ^
Only reason I still have a PS3 is for that game.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:34 PM ^
Milton and Mayfield preserving their redshirts makes me so happy.
Staff was smart to let someone else play back up LT snaps the last few weeks.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:36 PM ^
And at WR. ?
November 28th, 2018 at 5:40 PM ^
Steuber did not impress. I wonder if there is any way to coax Hudson into staying and competing for that RT spot or even a spot on the DL?
November 28th, 2018 at 5:54 PM ^
Steuber looked fine. Mayfield can compete for RT next season. Don't dwell on past guys that chose to transfer.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:13 PM ^
Mayfield will probably line up at LT and Runyan over to RT.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:28 PM ^
Really? That would be unreal development for Mayfield. Love the different possibilities.
Also very very unreal to me - Runyan first team All-B1G at tackle. God bless Warinner.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:37 PM ^
Warinner was an amazing addition to the staff. Harbaugh should fire Pep and hire someone at Ed’s level when it comes to the passing game and play calling.
Kudos to Runyan. I’m sure he worked his ass off.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:50 PM ^
Best 5.
November 28th, 2018 at 7:00 PM ^
(Umbig11 deleted it, but originally said "Dont be surprised to see a true Fr at right guard")
3rd-Team All-Big Ten Senior RG Michael Onwenu. Hes going to get benched. For a true Freshman that nobody on the planet has ever seen in a Michigan uniform/never seen line up against a college DT/never seen the inside of a dorm room.
Good stuff. Keep it coming.
November 28th, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
Possibly speculation that Bredeson wil leave early and Onwenu move over to LG. Personally, I really like Rumler but would be surprised if he could move ahead of Spanellis.
November 28th, 2018 at 7:22 PM ^
Lol sure dude...Onwenu is not losing his job to a true freshman. He is a mauler.
November 28th, 2018 at 10:42 PM ^
Onwenu may be 500 lbs next season.
November 29th, 2018 at 10:53 AM ^
Why would he be 500 pounds? He might also undergo a sex change. Or lose a limb in a landscaping mishap. Or start a grape farm and quit the game.
Does that staff know that today? No. Is he 500 pounds today? No. Is there a college football coaching staff in America who has even begun to identify their 2019 starting lineup and depth chart? No. Is there a staff in the country who is slating true freshmen to starting spots without ever seeing them put on pads? Absolutely not.
Onwenu "may be" replaced next year for any number of reasons, but nobody on the planet knows that now. And it's the most absurd thing on earth to think they've already mentally replaced him with a kid in High School, let alone shared that information with whatever fringe employee Umbig11 claims to be.
I'm not mad at you, Chalky. I'm angry with Umbig11. If he wants to pretend to be an insider, fine. I don't buy a word of it, but plenty here do, and as far as I can tell it's not hurting anything. But shit like these two O-line posts are absurd. And he writes it in that same vague tone that makes it seem plausible that he's hearing it from inside the fort. He most certainly is not. Anybody with a brain knows that this staff would never guarantee a '19 Left Tackle starting spot to Jaylen Mayfield without seeing him and his competition (most notably returning All Big-Ten 1st Team Senior Left Tackle Jon Runyan) progress through the bowl, the spring and ultimately fall camp. What he wrote is a complete crock of shit.
If he wants to throw nonsense like this at the wall, fine. But he should preface it with "This is my bullshit opinion, not from any sources". Not doing that allows him carte blanche to toss around any theory he wants and claim anything that hits on his insider knowledge. Like when he buried his "Lavert Hill won't play" nugget of wisdom deep inside some thread before Indiana (Hill played). He does that crap all of the time and misses on an absolute ton of stuff, but the fans searching for that holy grail of free info remember the ones that turned out to be correct and choose to put their faith in his posts.
Again, nothing against you. Really just got rolling and figured I'd just lay it all out in hopes he comes back to read this and tones down his act.
November 30th, 2018 at 6:08 AM ^
If I recall, it was sussed out a few years ago that umbig is a booster with inside knowledge. Brian vouched for him as well. Doesn't mean 100% correct, but more inside info than most on this board.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:58 PM ^
They're going to kick the First Team All-B1G Senior Left Tackle to the right side and hand his spot to a RS Freshman. Of course they are.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:10 PM ^
Presumably his perceived position on the depth chart factored into his decision to tramsfer? I imagine if he saw a reasonable root to the field he would not bee as eager to transfer.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:36 PM ^
This is good. All three of those guys got meaningful snaps, so for once we didn't burn any redshirts just to play in garbage time or on special teams tasks that could have just as easily been filled by a veteran walk-on. The new redshirt rule is great. The coaches can evaluate guys without hurting their eligibility, and the players who turn out not to be needed right away get to play a bit.
November 28th, 2018 at 10:53 PM ^
And it has the potential to make mid tier bowl games or bowl game blowouts infinitely more interesting.
The freshmen who won’t burn their RS with bowl participation will practice all December with their hair on fire because they know there’s a solid chance they could get a bunch of PT in the bowl depending on circumstances.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:36 PM ^
He can return but I think he lost his job to Jake Money
November 28th, 2018 at 5:40 PM ^
Today's Fun with Acronyms: BVS is freshman fullback and special teams player Ben VanSumeren.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:11 PM ^
Phew. Batman v. Superman never stuck out on film.
November 28th, 2018 at 7:36 PM ^
I never saw it, but I heard it wasn't much good. I was in it, as an extra in the black-tie event scene where Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince meet. I learned two things:
1. Being an extra is a lot of sitting around and eating snacks for minimum wage.
2. Gal Gadot is a little tiny thing, and just as gorgeous in person as on screen. Yowza.
November 28th, 2018 at 10:55 PM ^
Per the Google, Gal Gadot is 5’10”.
Is it lying or are you like 6’5” such that you think a 5’10” woman qualifies as tiny?
November 29th, 2018 at 4:16 AM ^
Fair point. I meant "tiny" as in "circumference." In her heels, she was easily six feet.
November 29th, 2018 at 4:51 PM ^
Must've been the Israeli Defense Forces training that kept her so "tiny".
November 28th, 2018 at 5:42 PM ^
Other than maybe a couple offensive lineman, if anyone from this class plays relevant downs in their 5th year WD will eat a lemon.
EDIT to Add: Those downs have to be played here.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:57 PM ^
I think there will be more than usual. This was a deep team at most positions and players that would not have redshirted in the past did because of that and because of the new rule.
Aside from the OL, both TEs, BVS and Milton are solid candidates on offense. There's at least that many on defense. You never know how things will shake out, but an over/under of one seems way too low. I'd go with four.
November 28th, 2018 at 6:26 PM ^
....so is this WD's mom??? [Eddie Haskell voice] "Hello Mrs. Devotee you're looking rather lovely tonight!"
November 28th, 2018 at 5:43 PM ^
Uh, Joe Milton?
November 28th, 2018 at 5:45 PM ^
He’s appeared in only 3 games. Do you have a question?
November 29th, 2018 at 12:29 AM ^
I think he was saying that it seems like he's been in 4, because I thought the same thing until I checked.
November 28th, 2018 at 5:58 PM ^
I'm ready to see plenty of Milton bombs in the bowl game.
