Redshirts Officially Burned (only 3)

Submitted by umbig11 on November 28th, 2018 at 5:11 PM

Moody (K); Bell (WR); Hutchinson (DL) - will be true So. next year.

BVS (FB)  - can't participate in the bowl game or he will burn his RS.

All other Fr. - "CAN" participate in the bowl game with no risk of burning their RS.

(Umbig11 deleted it, but originally said "Dont be surprised to see a true Fr at right guard")

3rd-Team All-Big Ten Senior RG Michael Onwenu. Hes going to get benched. For a true Freshman that nobody on the planet has ever seen in a Michigan uniform/never seen line up against a college DT/never seen the inside of a dorm room.

Good stuff. Keep it coming.

Possibly speculation that Bredeson wil leave early and Onwenu move over to LG. Personally, I really like Rumler but would be surprised if he could move ahead of Spanellis.

Why would he be 500 pounds? He might also undergo a sex change. Or lose a limb in a landscaping mishap. Or start a grape farm and quit the game.

Does that staff know that today? No. Is he 500 pounds today? No. Is there a college football coaching staff in America who has even begun to identify their 2019 starting lineup and depth chart? No. Is there a staff in the country who is slating true freshmen to starting spots without ever seeing them put on pads? Absolutely not.

Onwenu "may be" replaced next year for any number of reasons, but nobody on the planet knows that now. And it's the most absurd thing on earth to think they've already mentally replaced him with a kid in High School, let alone shared that information with whatever fringe employee Umbig11 claims to be.

I'm not mad at you, Chalky. I'm angry with Umbig11. If he wants to pretend to be an insider, fine. I don't buy a word of it, but plenty here do, and as far as I can tell it's not hurting anything. But shit like these two O-line posts are absurd. And he writes it in that same vague tone that makes it seem plausible that he's hearing it from inside the fort. He most certainly is not. Anybody with a brain knows that this staff would never guarantee a '19 Left Tackle starting spot to Jaylen Mayfield without seeing him and his competition (most notably returning All Big-Ten 1st Team Senior Left Tackle Jon Runyan) progress through the bowl, the spring and ultimately fall camp. What he wrote is a complete crock of shit.

If he wants to throw nonsense like this at the wall, fine. But he should preface it with "This is my bullshit opinion, not from any sources". Not doing that allows him carte blanche to toss around any theory he wants and claim anything that hits on his insider knowledge. Like when he buried his "Lavert Hill won't play" nugget of wisdom deep inside some thread before Indiana (Hill played). He does that crap all of the time and misses on an absolute ton of stuff, but the fans searching for that holy grail of free info remember the ones that turned out to be correct and choose to put their faith in his posts.

Again, nothing against you. Really just got rolling and figured I'd just lay it all out in hopes he comes back to read this and tones down his act.

This is good. All three of those guys got meaningful snaps, so for once we didn't burn any redshirts just to play in garbage time or on special teams tasks that could have just as easily been filled by a veteran walk-on. The new redshirt rule is great. The coaches can evaluate guys without hurting their eligibility, and the players who turn out not to be needed right away get to play a bit.

And it has the potential to make mid tier bowl games or bowl game blowouts infinitely more interesting.

The freshmen who won’t burn their RS with bowl participation will practice all December with their hair on fire because they know there’s a solid chance they could get a bunch of PT in the bowl depending on circumstances.

I never saw it, but I heard it wasn't much good. I was in it, as an extra in the black-tie event scene where Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince meet. I learned two things:

1. Being an extra is a lot of sitting around and eating snacks for minimum wage.

2. Gal Gadot is a little tiny thing, and just as gorgeous in person as on screen. Yowza.

Other than maybe a couple offensive lineman, if anyone from this class plays relevant downs in their 5th year WD will eat a lemon.

EDIT to Add: Those downs have to be played here.

I think there will be more than usual. This was a deep team at most positions and players that would not have redshirted in the past did because of that and because of the new rule.

Aside from the OL, both TEs, BVS and Milton are solid candidates on offense. There's at least that many on defense. You never know how things will shake out, but an over/under of one seems way too low. I'd go with four.
