Michigan #4 in AP Poll, Coaches Poll

Submitted by Bambi on November 4th, 2018 at 2:35 PM

No surprises here as Michigan moves up after the LSU loss.

AP Poll

Coaches Poll

The top 6 are the same in each poll going:

1) Alabama

2) Clemson

3) ND

4) Michigan

5) Georgia

6) Oklahoma

This is where they differ as the coaches poll has OSU 7 while the AP put WVU at 7 and OSU at 8.

Other ranked B1G teams:

OSU: 7 (Coaches)/8 (AP)

PSU: 20/21

MSU: NR/24

Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue and NW are receiving votes in both polls.

It's in our best interest that OSU not lose until The Game.  We have to beat them anyway to be truly on the rise, and we want to do it with them as a top 10 team.

Anybody we play in the Big Ten Championship Game won't be a top 10 team.  The Big Ten is starting to actually look pretty weak, and our wins less and less impressive.  Our "good loss" to ND is more impressive than our "big wins".

But the Big 12 Championship Game winner will likely win it against a top 10 team - OU or WVU.

Don't open the door to any OU or WVU favorable comparisons.

I don't think the B1G looks bad this year, but the polls are pretty shitty. PSU is the 4th best team in the East and they're ranked. It's ridiculous that MSU isn't as well.

If the rankings weren't bullshit you'd have

Michigan - top 5

OSU - top 10

MSU - top 20

PSU - top 25

That's not a bad division.

You’re basically right. Everyone nationwide looks mediocre, though. The SEC middle is bad. The ACC is awful. The Big 12 is basically 2 teams right now.

Bama’s win over LSU is really good. It’s also the only team it has beaten that is currently ranked. Like us, the rest of their schedule has collapsed.

WVU and OU play the last weekend of the year so one of them will have 2 losses when they play in their championship game. There's no reason to worry about getting jumped by the big 12 if UM finishes 12-1 and wins the B1G. The biggest worry is ND and Clemson remaining undefeated and Bama losing a close game to GA. Their mythical status will be ridiculous by then and could make it a tough decision for the committee.

The B1G doesn't look weak to AP voters.  They consider them possibly the strongest.

4 East teams in Top 25

4 West teams in the next 9

No other conf. can say that.

Gotta think oddsmakers have the B1G and SEC pretty equal as well with SEC stronger at top but equal in the middle.  The ACC has 3 Top 25 after Clemson.  If you took UM & OSU out of the equation and matched up MSU, PSU, NW, Wisky, Iowa, or Purdue vs. BC, Syracuse, or NCst.  I believe the B1G would be favored in nearly every matchup.

And no.  I can never root for OSU to win.

They were fortunate that so many other teams lost. Some teams made absurd jumps in this poll because of this. Both Syracuse and Boston college jumped a whopping 11! spots in the Coach's Poll.

I for one am totally shocked that Auburn didn't catapult to #11 or something while A&M stayed at 25. Talk about two hilariously overrated teams year in and year out.

Regarding some of the schools still getting votes, I still think it is mildly chuckleworthy that Purdue and Northwestern are 5-4 overall but at the top or near it (Wisconsin is 4-2 in the conference like Purdue) in the Big Ten West.

The rankings from like #11-40 are just a mess of mediocre P5 teams that everyone is just like “are they good?...*shrug* i dunno. But they arent winning their conference or making the playoff”. Its just a mess of slightly good P5 teams and actually good G5 teams
