"The Player and the Fan" Interview with Logan Tuley-Tillman

Submitted by MaizeInDC on October 18th, 2018 at 10:03 PM

Former UM OT Logan Tuley-Tillman was interviewed yesterday by Chris Howard on his podcast "The Player and the Fan."

Tuley-Tillman says that there was an effort to bring him back on the team at one point.

Logan also discusses the mentorship non-profit he recently started, the Failure's Never Final Foundation.

Here's the link to the interview.

Lol wait a god damn minute, this is insane. This guy faced no jail time, he just couldn’t play Michigan football. He still went on to play more college football. He didn’t face terrible consequences. Furthermore, is it really that hard to not screw women who are so drunk that they don’t notice you filming them? God help you if it’s that hard for you.

Wait. Is your problem that he had drunk sex, that he filmed it without her knowing, or both? Because you're sometimes arguing each of the above positions.

It's ok to not have wanted him back on the team. Kid clearly fucked up. It's also ok to look at Harbaugh sideways for this.

But. A) making a sex tape without her knowing is in no way morally equal to rape or spousal abuse.

B) allowing a player who has been through the legal/university code process back on the team, or lobbying to do so, is in no way morally equal to Meyer, Dantonio, or Izzo, who all avoid the legal process, the university process, or consequences at all.

I tend to agree with you that LTT crossed the line and I would not necessarily have wanted him back. However, your comparisons are ridiculously out of whack. Not all sins are created equal. And this isn't YouTube: we are usually able to understand nuance on this board (however, it is still the internet, so...maybe???)

You can try to say that it wouldn’t be as bad if LTT had stayed, I dont really care. The point is that it still would have been wildly inappropriate. Given that multiple people here are defending what he did, it’s fair to question that their real objections to Izzo and Meyer keeping on people like Walton and Smith is entirely based on tribalism.

This is dead on for several reasons.

The grossest contra argument is the one minimizing what he did bc, whatever it was, it was not rape. As if that’s the only act in this ugly area that rises to the level of an absolute minimum floor/standard of decency and required consent sufficient to remain on the team.

This is the way crimes should be dealt with. There is an allegation followed by an investigation. If the facts support a guilty verdict, the guilty party is punished. Ideally, they are rehabilitated during this time. Once their punishment is served, they are free to return to society. Hopefully, someone will be willing to give them a second chance. Forgiveness is key to all of this.

LTT was punished. Harbaugh apparently, felt that the young man had served his punishment and was rehabilitated.

Compare that to the lies, deceptions, cover-ups, rapists being transferred to grad school housing, witnesses being coerced not to testify, law enforcement reducing crimes to littering, multi-million dollar settlements for decades of institutional rot and decay, putting winning above all else. If you can’t see the difference between LTT and the BIG10 __ State Universities, I’m afraid I can’t help you.

I will never understand someone's desire to tape themselves having sex.  Even more so without the other person knowing.  Hope he was able learn from his mistakes and find forgiveness for his actions.

Ultimately not bringing him back was the correct call. Playing at Michigan is a special privilege. It’s nice that he was given a chance at redemption and made the most of it, and appropriate that the 2nd chance was somewhere other than Michigan.

I am pretty sure that the 2nd chance that was offered was AFTER he had already left M, got his act together, and played elsewhere.  It was as a potential Grad transfer but didn't work out for one reason or another iirc.  (One we could have REALLY used if football was the only consideration.)

Now I just need to check to see if that is "acceptable" and not "OSU-ish" by the resident morality expert.........

I meant a 2nd chance at playing after his original incident, the 2nd chance provided by Akron or wherever played after Michigan.

A return to Michigan as a grad transfer would’ve been tough to justify. I think it was appropriate that his Michigan playing career ended when it did, but it’s always nice to see someone bounce back after a mistake and make the most of their situation, which it appears he has.

Excellent interview.  Seems LTT is on the right path to contribute to society.  And Excellent job by Chris Howard.  Worth the listen.

Yea he was done at M and I think that was the right call.  Kids do dumb shit and make bad decisions .... learn from it and better yourself.  If he was proving this was his direction, I wouldn’t have been mad they brought him back.

That's cool. Though I fired the Player and the Fan after listening to them bitch (again) about the playcalling after a good win over Wisconsin. At some point, I just want to enjoy the team and stop listening to the whining and nit picking.

*Edit* Wow. Just read the rest of the comments. This escalated quickly.

I do have a question that has been bugging me for awhile. If Guy A and Girl B both go to a party, both get hammered, and then have sex, how does consent work? I'm 100% in favor of saying a guy who has had a beer that has sex with a girl who is drunk has commited a crime. I have a daughter, and I am very concerned about her when she eventually goes to college.

That said, I also have a son. And at least when I was there parties, beer, and sex were pretty closely entwined. I did see two very drunk people willingly pair off and have sex more than once.  If they both aren't capable of consent I'm not comfortable with holding him culpable for rape.

I listened to the whole thing. One thing that struck me is LTT is very angry still about the incident and how it plays out. I'm not sure he's come to terms by the enhanced expectations that come with being in the public eye.

It may be a lot to ask of a 24 year old, but he's still got a growth process he needs to go through. He currently lacks contrition.
