Your list is missing Michigan's stats against the very first Heisman winner, Jay Berwanger from the University of Chicago. Michigan didn't play Chicago in 1935, Berwanger's Heisman year, but did play them in 1933 (a 28-0 Michigan victory) and 1934 (a 27-0 Chicago victory).

Berwanger was a significant contributor to the 1934 squad, and he gave Michigan's Gerald Ford a cut below his left eye in that game, resulting in a scar, according to an obituary. I'm not sure how much Berwanger contributed to the 1933 Chicago squad.

04/13/2018 - 2:14pm Fayette Historic State Park

Fayette Historic State Park at the tip of the Garden Peninsula east of Escanaba is amazing. It contains the ruins of a mid-19th C iron smelting facility, and has a great campground right on the lake.

Ft. Wilkins Historic State Park just outside Copper Harbor is beautiful. It contains the well-restored 1840s U.S. Army fort as well as a great campground right on a Lake Fanny Hooe, a small lake just a few hundred yards from Lake Superior.

Brockway Mountain Drive, which follows the crest of Keweenaw Peninsula has a amazing views of the Peninsula and Lake Superior.

Estivant Pines is a small patch of old growth white pine forest, also near Copper Harbor.

11/28/2017 - 7:26pm Beware open court...

However good Schiano and his lawyers think his case is, he has to weigh the money he might recover in court versus the reputational damages which could emerge from public testimony in a trial.

I believe it was PSU’s decision to sue one of their insurance companies over non-payment of a claim that led to the Schiano story coming to light. Even if PSU had won their case, they still would have come up short due to the further tarnishing of their reputation from testimony which emerged from the trial.

09/08/2017 - 1:18am 1987 NCAA Rule Change Allowing Conference Championships

The author mentions, but underplays, the significance of the 1984 Supreme Court ruling ending the restriction on the number of times a team could appear on national television. The fact that prominent teams quickly began to have nearly all their games televised shows that there were significant unmet demand.

Another prime driver for realignment was the 1987 NCAA rule change allowing 12 team conferences to split into divisions and host lucrative conference championship games. The SEC was the first D-1A conference to do this by adding Arkansas from the Southwest Conference and independent South Carolina for the 1992 season.

It was the push for TV deals which helped doom the Southwest Conference, which by 1991 was composed of only Texas schools, plus Arkansas. With the loss of Arkansas its fate was sealed, as a Texas-only conference had limited national appeal,

I have always wondered if the Delaney's plan to expand the Big 10 with addition of Penn State in 1991 also included adding Notre Dame, giving the Big Ten a championship game, as well.

I'm still pissed at Peter Ueberroth for making the Cubs play Game 5 in San Diego.

The Cubs had the better record that season, but MLB wanted Game 5 played at night for better TV ratings. Wrigley Field's lights weren't installed until 1988.

This ^^^^^ exactly.

I wonder if their 2016 slide turns permanent that this will be a major reason behind it.

They have a so-so tradition and had an opportunity in the late aughts and early teens to join the ranks of upper-tier programs. (As much as Sam and others talk about blue blood programs being fixed, it really is possible to move up and down the ranks over decades, cf. Minnesota, Penn State, Florida State, and Wisconsin. And even Michigan--with Sparty's success in the 1950s and 1960s, and Michigan's off years, it really was possible that Michigan could have faded into mediocrity had Bo not turned things around)

Yet, Mork D. Antoni is still peddling the underdog Disrespekt™ nonsense. Is that a way to recruit 4 and 5 stars and compete with UM and for the OSU long-term?

10/26/2016 - 9:51pm Really Old School

That would essentially be the ancient form of football from which soccer, rugby, and football all descend.

I believe someone recently posted a Bentley article on that game being played on the streets of Ann Arbor in the mid 19th century.

Harbaugh is setting fire to other teams' practice time, not Michigan's.

He is thinking about how teams will react to it and will have schemes based on those reactions.

And he's giving teams more and more things to worry about having to defend.

10/23/2016 - 12:23am Shotgun kneeldown?

Kelly's demeanor struck me as someone who is out of ideas and has no idea what to do next.
What does "evaluating all 22 positions" say about Kelly? Isn't a good coach doing that constantly?

09/20/2016 - 3:25pm To further clarify: "on the

To further clarify: "on the line of scrimmage" is within a yard of the LOS. "Behind the line" is more than a yard behind the line.
There are two LOS at each play, one for the offense and one for the defense. Each line is defined by the point of the football. No one can line up within the width of the football, with the exception of the snapper (who is usually the Center, except in weird formations).
Regarding covered players: watch wide receivers as they line up for plays. You'll often see them shifting a yard backwards or forwards to get on or off the LOS in order to cover or uncover the next closest lineman on their side of the field.
They usually look to the side judge or other official to confirm their correct positioning.

09/20/2016 - 10:45am I was at the championship

I was at the championship game in 1996. It was amazing to celebrate a national championship in person.
I also remember a fan from Clarkson, which was in the tournament but not the Frozen Four, being the loudest pro-Colorado College/anti-UM fan in our section. Very strange.

09/06/2016 - 6:25pm It's a question of what value

It's a question of what value the players can contribute to the team in 2016 and how much better they'll be as true sophomores with a year of experience in 2017, versus what value they would add as fifth year seniors in the 2020 (!) season.

Given 1) how many players we're losing in 2017, 2) Harbaugh's recruiting prowess, and 3) a chance at a conference title and playoff run, I think it's the right decision.

10/19/2013 - 11:47pm Go for 2 When Up 15?

10/24/2012 - 2:46pm Rushing the Field

What Wolverine & FannMann said. I remember rushing the field frequently before the field was lowered in 1991. I think we climbed over the wall (which I think was only about 40" high) before time expired so we could be on the field the moment the clock hit 0:00 in our win (38-9) against Illinois on Nov. 12, 1988, to celebrate clinching the Big Ten and a Rose Bowl trip
