Podcast Recommendations

Submitted by tnixon16 on October 3rd, 2018 at 2:25 PM

I have one podcast recommendation: Make more, please. One is not enough to get me from Monday to the WTKA Roundtable posted late Thursday and MGoRadio on (some) Fridays. Could we maybe get an upcoming-game-preview cast on Thursday morning?

And since I'm jonesin' for audio content, can anyone recommend their second favorite Michigan football podcast to listen to once you're all caught up on MGoContent?

  • The British History Podcast (the MGoBlog of history podcasts)
  • The Adventure Zone (funny, yes I'm a dork does anyone want to learn to play DnD with me?)
  • The History of Rome and Revolutions (Mike Duncan is a god)

Google has a podcast app...download it and you can have them all in one place.

I have shutdown fullcast, solid verbal is good, maize n brew, mgo, wtka, in the trenches with jon jansen, harbaughs, espn has a cfb podcast, and someone named Steve Deace has a good one.  This app aggregates podcasts across different networks and platforms into one easy to use app.

I will second the solid verbal. It is generally good for some of the games and conferences that I would never think to watch.

Call me a tinfoil hat wearing nutjob but I wouldn't use the google app because of all the free data you're giving them to manipulate their marketing to you later. Use an app that let's you keep your data private.

I've been listening to Gulati Pod this season. A couple of guys I know who graduated in the early 2010s started up a Michigan football podcast this season. They talk mostly football, but also things like the fan experience in Ann Arbor and news from around the B1G. I'm probably a bit biased, but they're entertaining and I definitely enjoy listening. Plus it drops every Wednesday, so it complements the MGoPodcast schedule nicely.

Check it out here https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/gulati-pod/id1436157222. A new episode is dropping tonight, so subscribe and you can take a listen!

The guys at We Are So Good at Football are Michigan fans, but the podcast as a whole is college football gambling-centric. Good for getting ready for the CFB weekend on Friday mornings.

The Michigan Podcast by Steve Deace (he keeps his politics out of it) : https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/michigan-podcast/id1237344316

For non-football podcasts, serious history students will enjoy Revolutions, which is perfectly named: http://www.revolutionspodcast.com/

The Wolverine podcast from Rivals has been mentioned, and they have various guests.

I definitely listen whenever Jim_S joins John Borton to talk recruiting.  It's a recruiting roundup on steroids.

Not football related, but 99% Invisible is my go-to recommendation for podcasts. Cool, short episodes about all sorts of topics, usually things that make you go "Oh yeah that thing" like curb cuts or the standard Navy Chair.

Not Michigan specific but these two are pretty good general college football podcasts.

The Solid Verbal

Athalon Sports Cover 2

For non-sports pods I'd recommend:

Hardcore History

Revisionist History

Pod Save America

Stay Tuned with Preet

Hardcore History with Dan Carlin is a good one if you were bored with your history as a student, but want to hear a more engaging depiction of various times in history as an adult.  I'd recommend listening to his series on WW1.

Pardon My Take has probably already been mentioned on here.  They are Barstool Sports, which is a divisive topic on here.  Barstool's CEO is a Michigan fan but also a total jerk to women.  The guys who do this show are not cut from the same mold.  PFT (one of the hosts) even broke character to publicly disagree with the CEO.  I know that may be a half measure for some, but they are a lot of fun, and strident Harbaugh fans.

These two recommendations probably couldn't be more polar opposites.

This is not a Michigan podcast nor do they call it a sports podcast but the Drew and Mike podcast (yes the same from the old WRIF days) is a solid listen.  Mostly pop culture and local news but they will dabble into sports.

I find it as a nice break up from hearing the same thing about the previous game during the week.

Dammit, the MgoBlog podcast boyz probably don’t get paid enough to sate our podcast hunger all week.   What’s up with that?   This is in line with paying college athletes - c’mon Brian - make it happen.  These guys give up their precious time and what do they get in return?   Corporate greed I tell you.....

Michigan Podcast for sure

MGoBlog (obviously the best one)

The Player and The Fan

Michigan Insider

Attack Each Day

The Michigan Man Podcast

Haven't listened to In The Trenches yet but hope to soon, enjoying Jon on Inside Michigan Football at least!

Thrilling Adventure Hour: A new time podcast in the style of old time radio. A comedy podcast with several serialized sketches: beyond belief, sparks nevada Marshal on mars, captain laserbeam, and moonshine hollar.

Welcome to night vale: a twin peaks type of serialized drama. The high school quarterback goes to University of Michigan and wins a national championship over Alabama. Along with other weird stuff.

Hello from the magic tavern: guy falls through a dimensional portal behind a burger king and does interviews of the people of foon with his co-hosts chuntttt and usidor. Some explicit language and adult situations. Just weird.

All my suggestions are comedy podcasts, but my favorites are:

-The Fighter and The Kid - Brendan Schaub and Bryan Callen - silly and funny, some UFC-related discussion mixed in it.

-The Joe Rogan Experience - I generally listen to his episodes with fellow comedians, but the episodes with Neil Degrasse Tyson are always great.

-The Bertcast - Bert Kreischer's podcast, silly and funny. I love Bert, but sometimes his podcast is too all over the place for me.

-Ari Shaffir's Skeptic Tank - Typically has fellow comedians on it, decent if I have nothing else to listen to on a long drive.

-The Adam Carolla Show - I've been listening to Carolla since the Loveline days, which means I've heard a lot of his opinions on things over and over again. But, it's new 5 days a week, so it's my go to most mornings when I get to work.
