On the bright side, Hill and Long will (hopefully) come back for their senior seasons ;)
September 29th, 2018 at 8:28 PM ^
While I agree that's more likely now, I think players leaving is more about how they finish the season than the season as a whole. If either has a breakthrough, specifically Hill, they may still go. I do think both stay for next year.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:53 PM ^
In all honesty, what has you convinced Hill would be drafted from this years performance? Last year he was great.
September 30th, 2018 at 8:03 PM ^
Why would Hill or Long leave early? They are not even remotely close to ready for the nfl!
September 29th, 2018 at 9:00 PM ^
I think Long has two years left. He was hurt most of his first year
September 29th, 2018 at 8:24 PM ^
Winovich had some fantastic moments as well. He has been fun to watch and will definitely be missed after graduation.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:24 PM ^
Need Ross to get much more snaps than Gil moving forward. 80/20 split or so.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:18 PM ^
Thank you for your second half, defense. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
And to the officials who continue to not know what the hell they're doing... f*ck you, f*ck you, f*ck you.
September 29th, 2018 at 9:00 PM ^
I never got mad at defense giving up anything in that first quarter.
I got fucking pissed off about the horrible calls and commercials though.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:18 PM ^
Glad they woke up and played great in the 2nd half.
Brown needs to figure out how to deal with slants.
September 29th, 2018 at 11:12 PM ^
Why is it almost every game the opposing offense crushes us early on...only to have Brown adjust at half? Why not do your homework on teams...
Durkins D was better... We get gashed time and time again
September 29th, 2018 at 8:18 PM ^
Soooooo many slants. Good to see our D tighten up on them in the second half
September 29th, 2018 at 8:20 PM ^
Some real struggles in the secondary, Paye and Dwumfour came up huge when needed. I think the DL will be fine next year.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:21 PM ^
Uche and Payes coming out party.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:24 PM ^
Yeah, I really liked what I saw from Kwity Paye.
He did make people Paye for it on occasion.
I will show myself out now.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:27 PM ^
Kwit it with the puns.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:53 PM ^
Or what? You’ll make him Paye for it?
September 29th, 2018 at 9:30 PM ^
I would say “Paye the man” but that would be an NCAA violation
September 29th, 2018 at 8:26 PM ^
I hope Brian’s UFR can look at how much Hudson being back mattered. Correlation and causation and all, but I liked the second a lot better.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:30 PM ^
Never thought about that. But that's a real good point. I didn't hear Hudson's name called much, but the defense was awesome in the 2nd half when he played.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:27 PM ^
Defense got it done, just took their sweet time again getting there. D-line is improving well, that was some great pressure. Rotations are not far behind the starters IMO. Didn't see Hutchinson out there tonight any updates on him I might have missed??
September 29th, 2018 at 8:27 PM ^
Da Hell has happened to Hill and Long?
September 29th, 2018 at 9:31 PM ^
What I want to know is where were all these PI flags a few seasons ago when MSU and Iowa DBs grabbed the receivers every single play?
September 29th, 2018 at 8:30 PM ^
Someone should tell our defense they can’t take the first quarter off in every road game. We will be down 14-0 to MSU and lose 14-10 again if that happens.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:32 PM ^
I think Gary may be a little banged up, but he is great at what the coaches ask him to do in this Defense. He’s also constantly doubled which makes life easier for the rest of the DL.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:34 PM ^
No targeting?
September 29th, 2018 at 8:35 PM ^
Hopefully Hudson will play a complete game soon
September 29th, 2018 at 8:35 PM ^
Where are all the jackasses that were talking shit about Don Brown in the first half? Fess up
September 29th, 2018 at 9:09 PM ^
All the guy does is have top 5 D's each year... the first sign of trouble they want him fired. It's embarassing. They should quit drinking and go to bed
September 29th, 2018 at 8:39 PM ^
The press coverage with single high safety on 3rd and vey longs (I'm referring to the 3rd and 13 where the CB holding penalty gave NW the 1st down)...I hope that stops for good now.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:39 PM ^
Loved the D quarters 2-4. Rush D needs Solomon back.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:42 PM ^
We need to play Penn State at night if we want any sort of shot
September 29th, 2018 at 8:42 PM ^
NW didn't crack 50 yards in the second half, I believe. They gave up some yards and got some bad breaks in that first quarter, but they absolutely earned their keep after that. Plus, guys like Uche and Paye continued to emerge on the line.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
By my count they had 52.
#FakeNews
September 29th, 2018 at 9:10 PM ^
Yeah but that last completion douesnt count because Winovich was held so badly
September 29th, 2018 at 8:45 PM ^
The D really stepped up after that first 18 minutes. Uche, Paye and Dwumfour - great game.
Gotta clean up the PI and defensive holding. Those are drive extending penalties which will keep teams in games. I think Rashan's shoulder is limiting him. I agree that he is very good but has not yet taken it to the next level. Bush was quiet today - I think NW was making a concerted effort to get blockers on him so he couldn't disrupt with his speed.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:47 PM ^
The thing that bothers me about the uber-physical DB play is that it completely negates the advantage in athleticism that our players should have over receivers from a team like Northwestern. Just run with them and find the ball. Jesus Christ.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:47 PM ^
Realize this is the discussion of defense, but McKeon’s dropped pass allowed NW to maintain early offensive momentum. Last 42 minutes of the game NW offense did nothing. In particular, receivers on slant patterns started to worry about their personal health.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:48 PM ^
My happiest moment of the game on defense was well into the second half when the linebackers destroyed receivers on short passes over the middle on consecutive plays. That was after had said "fucking slant" something like 23 times before then.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:49 PM ^
I find it amazing that opposing offensive lines never get called for holding against Michigan.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:55 PM ^
The blatant one sidedness of calls against UM in 2/3 if their games is irritating
September 29th, 2018 at 8:50 PM ^
Someone needs to tell Don Brown the first quarter counts.
We’re 5-0 and this game is a slow but comfy win if Q4 defense plays for Q1 in South Bend and Evanston.
September 29th, 2018 at 9:50 PM ^
Did you watch the entire game against nd? Unfair to blame the D with an inept offense.
September 30th, 2018 at 1:06 PM ^
I just can't understand how people don't understand, that when an offense comes in with 20 scripted plays that they have prepared for you for two weeks, it can be difficult to stop them. Once that initial burst happens, we adjust, and shut down everything. That's football.
September 29th, 2018 at 8:53 PM ^
HAIL TO THE VICTORS
September 29th, 2018 at 9:11 PM ^
Was nice to finally see the offense get called for one of those pick plays
September 29th, 2018 at 9:19 PM ^
Penalties have hurt our team.
September 29th, 2018 at 9:19 PM ^
Great in the second half, but the defense is going to have to put together complete games if they want to have an opportunity to win the big games on the schedule. And please get the PI and holdings in the secondary straightened out. Play the ball and use your athleticism, stop grabbing.
September 29th, 2018 at 9:22 PM ^
Came here to see if Hutchinson is hurt. Didn't see him either.
