"Little Bird" Scouting Report on Michigan's 4 QBs, video

Submitted by SkyPanther on

Giving no name, just saying he's an insider, Steve Deace, of Michigan Podcast, talks about the scouting report his "Little Bird" gave him on Michigan's current scholarship QBs.

It sounds like the talk of Dylan McCaffrey is the best of all:

"....he just never seems to make a bad decision.... I just cannot see how he's not a 3 year starter after this year. He will eventually pass Brandon Peters solely on the fact he just gets it more than Brandon Peters does. And I think that he wants it more."

It's odd the reaction to McCaffrey being ahead of Peters by some commentors.

And odd the reaction to this video about "Little Birdy" like it's from ChatSports or something.

This "Little Birdy" has been scouting Michigan football for years.

I think it is fair to guess that BP will be gone AFTER this year with the buzz about Milton and McCaffrey.  What doesn’t make sense to me are the folks that think he will be gone before this year if he isn’t in the 2-deep at QB.  He would have to sit a year whereas he can be a 2-year grad transfer after next summer if that is what he chooses.

With Perry and Martin - I hope it is a battle.  I like Perry but don’t think he has the top-tier athleticism that you would prefer in the position.  Martin seems to have that in spades from his recruiting and camp numbers just needs to equal Perry in route running etc.

Snarky comment re: Taylor.... what you said is a pretty safe bet as it wouldn’t take much for him to be better than most on the blog think......  (I wish the kid well no matter what - seems like a great young man.)

Thanks for the post, SkyPanther. I found it a little less "hype-y" than some and it wasn't all platitude. I'm kind of glad to hear that McCaffrey has stepped up and, from the video, ought to start over milton after this year. Unless milton really is a generational talent, I'd prefer a guy who will be getting playing time this year (though could milton see the field more with new NCAA rules?).

Also, what is your general impression of that podcast? Is it worth listening to on a regular basis?

A lot of over-reaction to this...no earth-shaking "droppings". I don't really care who does what in practice-when otherwise protected. Just need a QB who shows up while the clock is running.

Watching the warmups before the games last year, it is clear Mccaffrey is a better QB. I posted this last year and this blog scoffed at this notion

It's still being scoffed at today Go for two. Just another day on the internet.

These commentors scoffed at Shea Patterson. They scoffed at Jim McElwain. They scoffed at Ed Warinner. Just another day on the internet.

No good pearl of information goes unpunished on the internet.

There must be a lot of snake bit Michigan fans who look at Dylan McCaffrey and can't believe he really is as good as reports like these say he is, because they really do feel, "Michigan can't have nice things".

Hope everyone had a nice 4th.

I think the real heads up came from Professor Brown, when he started talking about DMc last year when everyone was asking about Peters.  The fact that he was offering the info was like him saying "this is the kid that I think is the one to watch".  That may not mean a lot to some of you, but it's called reading between the lines.

A lot of noise in this thread. Some good, some bad. Yes, 4 QB's received first team reps. All of them were evaluated. Shea is the clear number 1 followed by Peters/DM, & Milton. There is a large contingent that thinks DM will pass Peters this fall. Milton is a year away, but he will play with the new RS rules in place. Is DM, the guaranteed 3 year starter if Shea departs? Not sure, way too far away to project and too many moving parts. He has plenty of competition. Kurt Taylor? He will have to work very hard just to get to the RB3 or RB4 spot. RB4 seems more likely.

3 position battles to watch on the OL. LT, RG, & RT. RT is in better shape than most people think. RG is interesting. Onwenu needs to keep dropping the weight and build the endurance/consistency needed to keep the spot. Spanellis is right there! Hudson still has a lot of work to do to catch JBB. Filiaga is making noise and wants to play this year. We are finally 9-10 deep on the OL.

Fall practice start date Aug 2, even though some have been told Aug 3. I have heard July 31 thrown around too. You only get 29 practices. You can practice twice in the same day only after a 3 hour rest, and it is not in pads. More attrition likely? Yes, this year and next. It's just part of the process. Hope this helps.

Steve Deace has an excellent podcast.  He does a really good job and his back and forth with Michael Spath is a lot of fun.  It makes one of my daily walks go better in the fall.
