U.S. Open Day 2
Woods starts the day with double bogey
He actually started with a birdie. He started on 10, but he did double #1, so that is probably what you’re seeing.
Also, he is now +10, so he’s not making the cut. Oh well, neither will Phil most likely, but it will be fun watching DJ. Unless he screws up, it’s his to lose.
Woods is not notable... he is done.... mentally, he can’t hack it.
depends on your definition of "hacking it". He was definitely doing that yesterday!
That’s just crazy. He is obviously notable, and if you just happen to not have watched a single damn round yet this year, Tiger has been playing very well. If he gets his partner in gear, he will win.
Typo autocorrect. If he gets his “putter” in gear.
He’s only notable at this point because of the media. Face it he is done. He has played decent this year, but so have many others and oh yeah he’s been playing so well, that he hasn’t won or even gotten a top 5 I believe....
Finished 2nd at the Honda I believe. And if Tiger is done does that mean Rory and Jordan are too? They're playing just as bad this week, and worse than Tiger over the last few months.
If he finished 2nd at the Honda, then fair enough I stand corrected. I’m a big fantasy golf guy and we don’t start our season until March Madness ends. Any golf tournament before that is kind of irrelevant imo, but nonetheless if true, fair enough. No, they are obviously not done. They are in a slump and at some point will win some big ones again. They will probably never be as good as Tiger was, but he is just no longer good. The media and people who refuse to see how bad he is overall now are the only ones pumping him up. Nobody fears him, which was part of his dominance. He can’t putt, he is embarrassed by his scandal, he knows people think he is a bad guy, he can’t get away with cheating (PEDS) anymore and he’s old.
You obviously haven't been watching him this year. He will win some tourneys this year - you can raback that shit.
That is one scorching hot take. Two weeks ago he was #1 or #2 in every statistical category but putting. Yes, his putter has sucked the last few weeks, but He is not done. Just because he hasn’t finished top 5 or whatever doesn’t mean he hasn’t played well.
I’m sure you thought Jack Nicklaus wasnt notable when he was playing in the open those multiple times he retired. It was just the media hyping him up. No one really wanted to watch the greatest to ever play. And no one really wants to watch Tiger, by far the greatest player of the last 20-25 years and easily the second best player ever in addition to having an inarguable massive effect on the game itself.
You failed to address all the reasons I said he’s done but whatever. I don’t think he’ll ever win another major again. Too many good players and he has too many issues as I laid out above. Also, I believe once he realizes he won’t win another major he will be gone from golf. He won’t play on the Senior Tour. I feel bad for him to be honest, but it is what it is.
He's notable not because of the media, but because of the fans. There's a lot of people like me that watch the following golf every year:
1. All rounds of Masters
2. Final round of majors
3. Any round Tiger is playing.
I was pretty young when Tiger was at his best, but I wonder how many tournaments and majors he wins against this group of young talents. Tiger was obviously a great golfer, but I think some of his numbers were inflated by not having as much competition as there seems to be now.
Haha he's had no shortage of partners over the years.
LI!! I'm not a big golf watcher (but I play a lot) but I love it when they have these tournaments at Shinnecock Hills or Bethpage, brings out my Long Island pride.
I find watching this type of tourney fun to watch. -1 could easily win it, which I think is more exciting then watching guys shoot -20 for a tourney. Love see them struggle with a real challenge.
I agree. I don't want to see them pin hunting for four rounds. You should be happy making a par and moving along in the US Open.
Getting to the point, I'd rather not see Shinnecock again. Or maybe redo greens on 7 and 11 at least.
I don't watch golf and I don't really know much about any one that isn't mentioned by the OP. With that said, I'd rather see Dustin Johnson do well than anyone else as his father in law is The Great One after all!
I am legitimately bummed The Cat isn't having a better Open. I was hoping he'd make the weekend and be in a spot to challenge on Sunday. There's just a different level of excitement and electricity when he's in contention for a major...
DJ is having a great tourney so far and looks to be in the driver's seat.
Can't wait to crack open a beer or four on Sunday (Father's Day too!) and watch the final round.
DJ looks way too comfortable to lose this one.
It's over
The only reason I play golf is for the 19th hole.
Can’t stand Speith’s excuse making after every single hole (though to be fair, we wouldn’t have to hear it if he wasn’t mic’d a lot). So I was happy to see him choke a short putt on the last hole to miss the cut.
Anybody see Poulter look like one of us out there on one of his last holes? Scolded a bunker shot 20 yards past the green into some dry rough, duffed his next shot right into some tall grass, left his chip short of the green. Tripled the hole.
Admittedly, I don't read many golf posts, but I always thought Speith's commentary was well-regarded. I personally love hearing it after his shots. He had what appeared to be a bad shot today out of the sand and immediately said "that was about the best I could have expected from that spot." I was surprised, as I thought he would be frustrated with it. Cool insight.
Joe Buck makes this US Open un-watchable.
Precisely why I'm watching soccer at the moment.
