Tuesday Night NCAA Basketball Thread (Sparty @ Iowa)
Simply stated. Sparty takes their injured and needing-sympathy team to Iowa City for a classic Big Ten showdown. Right now, ESPN.
There are other games but this is the best one of the night. Go Hawks.

That is, head and shoulders, the creepiest picture of Tom Izzo I have ever seen.

I say Iowa wins. They are healthy and are going to have a rocking home court advantage.

Who do I root for so Michigan looks better?
Oh wait, Michigan beat both, it doesn't matter.

I suppose we look good either way, but an Iowa win puts us two games up on everyone in the loss column, so that's definitely what we want.

Staee is gonna need a lot more from Valentine and Trice. We held them to a combined 5 points. Iowa 78 msu 70

Apparently MSU is the first team in history to have injury issues, given how much pub this topic is getting.
Maybe they should just be handed the national title right now out of sympathy?

As soon as I turned the game on, the very first words out of the announcer's mouth were "Dawson, Payne and Appling."
Let's just give them a Purple Heart already.

Both teams under the 40% mark for effective FG% right now, and Michigan State is coming up on five minutes without a shot going in, I think. This is starting to look like one of those games that require eyewash and beer, but knowing me, I will find the will to watch regardless. Guinness #1 is being had right now.

I get blisters from playing intramurals, ESPN doesn't talk about my coach* dealing with injuries.
*I admittedly don't have a coach, but the point still stands.

Iowa's defense looks awesome. I mean, it's only because Dawson and Payne are out, but still. They've shut down any movement and function of Sparty's offense.

Fun to see the officials calling fouls on MSU when they foul.

I didn't know Bunk Moreland was on the msu staff.

Just turned the game on. 20 to 19 with 3:40 left? Bleck. Score some points.

How does he get continuation there? He was fouled way before the shot.

Ugly basketball. MSU is struggling in some areas, but they're definitely thrilled with the pace of the game; this is their kind of game, not Iowa's kind. Bodes well for MSU late.
What's really impressive to me is that all these B1G teams seem to struggle on offense against top B1G competition. They just can't get it rolling in tough circumstances.
All these B1G teams except Michigan, that is. Even against smothering defense on Saturday Michigan was well over 1.00 ppp. That's a significant positive even compared with a year ago.

seems prepared for all the stuff State gets away with.

It's NOT WORKING.
EDIT: We're playing some weird guys right now...? Really? My tiny violin isn't tiny enough.
January 28th, 2014 at 8:06 PM ^
At least Sparty is consistent, every time they floor slap, points scored on.
January 28th, 2014 at 7:54 PM ^
Oh, shut up, Izzo.
January 28th, 2014 at 7:55 PM ^
Izzo just referred to the players he recruited as "weird guys" in the halftime interview.

"I just shit my pants" -- Fran McCaffery
If you haven't googled Fran McCaffery, you probably should. The facial expressions are magnificent.

Izzo we know you are playing more players than normal. The reason is (everybody)......... INJURIES!
January 28th, 2014 at 7:59 PM ^
Of course, Payne and Dawson aren't weird guys because they are not out there. On the bench with critical injuries.
January 28th, 2014 at 8:06 PM ^
I don't know, a guy who punches tables and breaks his hand is pretty weird.
