OT: Jim Caldwell hired by Lions

Submitted by NFG on

Per Adam Schefter, the Lions and Jim Caldwell have agreed to terms. Thoughts?

And then went 11-21 after that.  Congrats on going from the worst team, based on record, in the history of the NFL to a fringe playoff team that was summarily dispatched in the first round.

No single move will haunt the Lions because, frankly, how do you distinguish one crappy move from another?  This isn't trading Babe Ruth or picking Bowie over Jordan; the Lions have been one of the worst organizations in the NFL for basically my whole life.  Caldwell may well work out a bit, but this is a guy nobody wanted who fell to the Lions after the missed out on Lovie Smith and Wisenhunt, to say nothing for the other possible coaches like BOB who may have been options.

Who cares if the Lions lose.  I've lived in the Metro area all my life and I actually find it entertaining when they lose.  I love listening to all the grips on sports talk radio the next day.  The lions suck.  They are losers until they prove otherwise.

Why care if they lose?  They are just a bunch of highly paid profesionals, who for the most part care less about winning than their paying fans do.  The whole scam is they get you to care so they can get your money.

Ugh.  He did a serviceable job in Indy, but pointing at Baltimore as proof that he can coach QBs and an offense is not high praise.  He'll be fine, at best.  I guess that's an improvement for the Lions, but man did this team whiff this postseason.

Is Caldwell the disciplinarian and leader of men that Scwhartz wasn't ?

I don't know. This guy seems really mellow and unexpressive. Can he get guys to stop making stupid mistakes and penalties? That's the biggest question.

I'm not to excited over this hire. But, what the hell. The Lions have one winning season is Staffords 5 years here.

Caldwell could easily have been hired a week from now.

What's really funny is the talk of what a great interview he had...can't wait for the Lions to win a game because their coach interviews so well.

Post from Huge Show's Facebook page:

"Jim Caldwell:
26-63 at Wake Forest
2011 2-14 without Peyton Manning
Off. Coordinator of the 32nd ranked offense in the NFL 2013"

We will be doing this 3yrs from now. Should fired Schwartz in Week 15 and gone after Bill O'Brien. This coaching search was handled horribly.

Boy am I glad I switched to the packers. With Cutler resigning, Vikings going to have some superr retread, and the Lion hiring Dungy's dirty undies, the NFC North is going to be all PACKERS!!!

GO PACK GO!

the new coach will have to make the playoffs. The Lions just look like a 6-10 to 8-8. So, it would probably be best for him to start out next season at 4-12 and claim rebuilding, then by year 3 when he goes 8-8 they will fire him and both of the GMs! Then the rebuilding starts all over again once Stafford and CJ leave.

Caldwell will get fired after two seasons, and Tressel will be interim coach. Then the Fords will hire Tressel full-time for the next season, and then will take the Lions to the Super Bowl a season after that.

I don't really believe this, but it would be fun to see all the Lions/UM fans heads explode.

Manning's OC was Tom Moore from 1998-2008. It was his offense, his designs. Jim Caldwell had little to do with it.

Moore was the Lions OC when Scott Mitchell threw for 4,000 yards, had two receivers with over 100 catches(first time in history), and lead the league in offense.

Jim Caldwell has no such track record.
