I grew up listening to the Red Wings on the radio when there were only six NHL teams. Those were great days for the Red Wings. Then, I had the good fortune to be living in Hartford Connecticut when Gordy and his sons played for the Hartford Whalers. Carty would have been in his early 50s then and could still skate with the youngsters.

11/02/2015 - 11:38am Lions

Look at it this way.  This year we only had hope for the Lions for 3-7 games depending on your degree of blindness. Last year, we were sucked along for the entire season.  Also, Bill Ford was wise enough to bring in Alan Mulally when he knew FMC needed fixing.  He has a vote on what the Lions do next.  There is hope he convinces all the other Fords to find a football Mulally.

What are the recruiting chops of this staff. We need some Southern and West Coast exposure. Harra ugh brings it. How about the others?

Would destroy M..not good

12/06/2014 - 10:50pm Loose

It's amazing how often lose is misspelled

12/06/2014 - 9:05pm Paul Johnson

Wasn't he hired by GT in the same year we hired RR?

01/14/2014 - 10:48pm Caldwell

It's simple. Tony Dungy is a Michigan hero and the Fords respect him. Let's hope for the best And expect the worst or vice versa.

09/15/2013 - 12:14pm UCONN GAME

Will be visiting and attending game with my son-in-law (a UCONN Grad) and my grand son. Where's the tailgate?

12/19/2012 - 10:36pm Coach Jim

Is this the same Jim Bates that coached wrestling and football at Jackson High?

12/12/2011 - 7:53pm Sandusky-Paterno-PSU

Can't help but think of Gordon Gee's "I hope Jim doesn't fire me" comment.  Looks like this was the overriding problem at PSU.  I wonder how many other football powers have this problem?

05/09/2011 - 12:52pm Non use of the word "ball"

Perhaps thinking we don't know what type of sport we are watching, announcers always use the term "golfball" . " He is a good striker of the golfball"  (that's another annoying term..what pro golfer is not a good striker of the ball?).

12/16/2010 - 11:58am Gittleson-Dayne

AMEN..Dayne rarely, if ever, did well against us (Gittleson).

12/02/2010 - 1:10pm History Lesson

Thanks for the background on the hire and post hire interview info.  i'm not really convinced that Martin knew the implications of the hire.  Unless someone else writes the book, we never will.  On another note, could Martin have been on the boat intentionally so he wouldn't hear from Miles.  This puts him in the position of not turning down Miles but, obviously, not hiring him either.

12/01/2010 - 11:15pm why was RR hired

I have always wondered if Bill Martin knew that he was changing the entire offensive philosophy when he hired RR.  The offense RR runs was unlike any of the other coaches he considered.  What do you think?  Did he make this hire in ignorance on that point?  Did he seek input from his panel of experts of just hire in desparation?
