You and everyone else who has made anything and everything on this blog, somehow relate to MSU and there success this year. And yes, Sparty will, and should be ranked #2 at the end of this season. Had the Bama player caught it (say it hit his belly and dropped straight to the ground), now Bama has the ball on the Okla 25 w/ ~45 seconds to go. Not that far-fetched for Bama to score, recover the onsides kick, and get a couple of plays in before the Hail Mary.
For the same reason you kick the squib--wanting to reduce the volatility of the situation--you don't try to bank it off of a Bama player intentionally.
In other situations, I think it would be a great idea. When you want to increase the volatility.
