The Snowflake Thread: The fans
Shame on the 35000 so called "fans" who sold their tickets to Buckeye fans. The fans that were there were loud and the big house was rocking. We should have a program where if you miss more than one home game you lose your season ticket priviliges.

There is no way UM's defense was going to stop OSU's offense in overtime plus Gardner was at the end of his physical rope. That was the correct call.
November 30th, 2013 at 6:07 PM ^
We had our backup kicker who missed a field goal that luckily didn't count, and almost shanked two extra points. We had a QB who was playing on some sort of injury. We had not stopped their offense, or even forced them to pass, in over a quarter. It was definitely a reasonable call. It gave us the opportunity to win against their defense, which we had shredded, without having to see the offense again.

You play to win needing only 2 yards vs. trying to trade touchdowns in OT.

But there's no such thing as momentum. Carry on...
November 30th, 2013 at 9:20 PM ^
No such thing as energy either, both are mathematical shortcuts that just work out because of Newton's laws! Momentum is just a shortcut to collision solutions.....you can't have "momentum"

We have seen that today on MGoboard. Lack of perspective, uncontrolled ANGAR, incessant calls for firings after every loss...it's ridiculous.* People act like Michigan are the Lions. They aren't. Save for the bleak years of RR UM always seems to find a way to achieve a winning season. Most schools would kill for UM's consistency.
Is 7-5 good enough? Absolutely not. Back-to-back 5 loss seasons is clearly not acceptable. This program has the resources to be a consistent top 10 program. It's fair to expect better than 5 losses which is why 2014 is a critical year for Hoke. 10 wins is a must or 2015 shapes up as a must win situation for Hoke.
*I realize that do many of the same things when it comes to the Lions. No need to point out my assholery.
November 30th, 2013 at 5:58 PM ^
If you think Michigan has awful fans you need to broaden your views of awful fanbases. Michigan's is pretty tame compared to OSU and Bama.
But disregarding the assholes that sold their tickets, the people that showed up....holy fuck. That was probably the most consistently loud I've ever heard Michigan Stadium. And i stood the ENTIRE GAME! We might have lost, but god damn that was an amazing atmosphere.
November 30th, 2013 at 6:00 PM ^
Wolvie3758 is a perfect example of what I am talking about. UM would be richer with less people like him cheering them on.

as a fan.
Try being a Lions or EMU fan. You'll then know real fan misery. This isn't misery, but disappointment and frustration. UM knows how to win football games and will so again. Crying and carrying on like UM has it so bad ignores the decades of success this program has had. UM is in the wild right now just as Bama once was. UM will be great again. It has too much going on for it for the program to continue to struggle.

You're the greatest fan in the world. Is that what you want everyone to tell you?
November 30th, 2013 at 6:07 PM ^
Michigan has a bunch of whiners as fans. I am hypocrite as I do the same when it comes to the Lions. However, the Lions have given more reason to not believe that things will get better then Michigan has.

I have more faith in Hoke/Mattison then Schwartz/Cunningham/Linehan. One need only look at the Lions frustrating inconsistency to see this.

They also lost at home to Tampa Bay. They lost 8 straight games to finish the 12' season. No, the Lions are nowhere near Michigan. They have far more to prove then UM does.
November 30th, 2013 at 9:23 PM ^
really comparing the Lions record with Michigan's? Michigan has played about 4 real teams, the Lions are playing an NFL team every week. The lions are having a much much much better season than Michigan.

I see much irrational ranting.
Calling for a coach's dismissal after three years is stupid. Dantonio and Beilein have proven that patience is indeed a virtue. People need to chilax
November 30th, 2013 at 11:01 PM ^
A head coach anyway. We are paying the price now for the foolish decision to fire RR after 3 years.
I suppose a case can be made for firing an assistant coach like Robinson, Borges or Funk.

November 30th, 2013 at 6:00 PM ^
requiring attendance, we could charge a shit ton of money for tickets. No way that doesn't work. My buddy and I cheered our balls off today and then had the discussion afterwards of whether we want to pay for season tickets next year.....
November 30th, 2013 at 6:01 PM ^
It's the right call to go for 2. There's no way we win in OT with their offense. However, we should have ran a bootleg. The only thing we can do now is win the bowl game, get Malik McDowell, and get ready for next year.
November 30th, 2013 at 6:14 PM ^
Obviously, we wouldn't have had ZERO chance in OT.
But OSU has a FG kicker, and gives them an out, while Wile missed from under 30 and looked shaky on extra points.
That makes gives OSU an edge in OT, and so I agree w/ Brady's decision to take our chances in regulation.
November 30th, 2013 at 8:15 PM ^
November 30th, 2013 at 9:23 PM ^
Not officially, but Wile shanked a 29-yarder on that 4th and 2 where Hoke called a timeout at the last second. He also came perilously close to missing a couple of PATs.
November 30th, 2013 at 6:04 PM ^
If you were actually in the stadium, you'd know there were nowhere near 35,000 Buckeye fans in the building. Honestly, I've sat in the same section, same row for seven OSU games now, and today there were pretty much exactly how many OSU fans as there always are.
For the most part, they were polite, good-natured, and not assholes, too. It was actually kind of impressive, and unexpected. A bit of the OH-IO shit, but a fan has a right to cheer for their team when they score in my book. It's when you become an asshole about it that it becomes a problem. And no one, aside from a fistfight after the game was over, crossed that line.
So after an entire week of the blog ripping into fans based on some irrational fear of a repeat of 2009, your suspicions ended up being pretty much unfounded, at least in my corner of the stadium.
November 30th, 2013 at 6:13 PM ^
Couldn't agree more with this. Today's game was nothing like 2009, probably 20% OSU fans and they had no impact on the game. From start to finish, I thought this was one of the best crowds in the last 10 years.

Hmmm . . . I sit on the east side and it definitely wasn't a sea of red. There would be the occasional pair of Buckeyes here and there, and that was about it. I think the fact that they overwhelmingly wore red (whereas Michigan fans wore a variety of colors) made them stand out more. In any event they couldn't make any noise to affect the game.
