Hate Week Part 1: Test your knowledge at the greatest "Sparty NO!" moments! With this quiz!

Bummer it stops at 2000. There were some downright gems in the 90s. I think it was against Purdue, Sparty managed to let them back in the game late with a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown, then blew the onside kick, and let them drive down the field. Blew a two-score lead in the blink of an eye.

Was that the infamous James King game, where he blocked like 3 or 4 MSU punts on his own?

Well that's a super philosophy, Gulogulo. That way you can go through your entire life without ever having to really make fun of anybody.

Can someone tell me how this statement makes any sense whatsoever?
October 29th, 2013 at 9:33 AM ^
He's paraphrasing Goodwill Hunting. Matt Damon and Robin Williams say this to each other when they both have excuses to not find ladies. He's applying it here because you're using the fact that M has lost to weak opponents as an excuse to not make fun of Sparty, which is an important part of life to be missing out on.

Sparty "Meh" Week?
October 29th, 2013 at 8:52 AM ^
I prefer Sparty "Ugh" Week, because it connotes just pure frustration at the very fact that these games are never gimme games.

Hate week is reserved for Ohio.
But this can be like...Ugh Week or something.
October 29th, 2013 at 9:45 AM ^
CHANGE THE TITLE.
"UGH" OR "MEH" WEEK. Even...Ughmeh Week is better.

F108 is clearly the best spork.

They have the wrong answer for the last one. Beujter played for Illinois.
I got that wrong, and I couldn't figure out where the apostrophe in Hawaii goes.
October 29th, 2013 at 10:34 AM ^
Beutjer played as a freshman for Iowa before transferring to Illinois for his last three years. He beat Sparty as a freshman in the game referenced, so the Sporcle answer is correct.
October 29th, 2013 at 10:57 AM ^
I added to the description that Beutjer later transferred to Illinois. Also, it should accept "Hawaii" without the 'okina.

I managed 19/26 - the conclusion that I can draw from this is that I am more or less a football nerd and have watched too many MSU games that didn't involve Michigan necessarily.
Some of those are great moments though - I still remember clearly the 2002 Purdue-MSU game where they brought in Kyle Orton to throw one pass, and it resulted in the game-winning TD. For a moment, I liked Purdue.

I got a similar score, but I think it didn't have much to do with watching too many MSU games. The most helpful thing was being able to recognize the names of opposing players and the team they were on. When the first two words are "Jim Sorgi", I don't even need to read the rest to know Wisconsin. More obscure players from the more distant past were more difficult. It would have been a lot harder if they had left the names out and just described the situations.

In the MAKE PLAYS game against Notre Dame in 2006 when they got the ball back for the last time to try and regain the lead, whoever caught the kickoff took a knee at the 15. Classic.
I think they safetied themselves against Notre Dame on a kick off in the 80s also. I'll try and find a video.
edit: Here it is. At :30

24/26
Being an MSU alum I nailed these in about 2:30. I've apparently blocked the idiocy of the 2001 game at NU that happened right in front of me (MSU only had 10 defenders on the field when NU completed the 54 yard pass).
I also blanked on the 2001 PSU game. Was in attendence for that one as well.
Good quiz.

meh
Half of those are too easy because certain players are named. The ones I didn't get (I got 12 right) are only because I didn't recognize the names. Kind of a silly quiz.
