OT - Peyton's Dominance

Submitted by smotheringD on

My apologies if you're growning nauseous from all of the P. Manning praise but the dude is playng at an insane level right now.

Over the first 4 games:

TD-Int: 16-0

Completion Percentage: 75.0

QB Rating: 138.0

Ave Points: 45

Last Sunday against the Eagles, during his last four touchdown drives, three 80-yard drives and one of 65, he failed to convert a third down...because he didn't have any.

What is that?  36 plays, 305 yards, 28 points, no third downs?  What did he do in the off season, study offense in the CFL?

The web is flooded with articles singing his praises.  Here's one I stumbled across that pointed out the above stats:

If you dislike the Cowboys like I do you might be able to enjoy watching him run it up on them this Sunday (it's the 4PM game on CBS in my market).  Watching one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game and see the Cowboys get a beatdown, win-win!

Remember how magical he played against Nebraska his final game in college... He's an amazing regular season qb.. And blows when chips are on table

I would like to see Peyton w/ Brady's receivers; I think 3 or 4 QBs could put up roughly those numbers, if they played for the Broncos.

Peyton Manning is on my Fantasy Team. This is totally on topic!

No but seriously, he is crazy good right now. He single-handedly is winning me fantasy football games.

Mentioned on Face Book (Because he is multiple FFL leagues) that anyone with Peyton on the FFL roster has a 75% chance of winning that respective league.   In my second year ever participating in FF I hope he is correct as I also have Peyton on my roster!  RB depth is turrible and Peyton is making up for several players combined each week for me!   Go Blue!

I have every reason to dislike Peyton, as do all Michigan fans. His biggest Heisman rival was Woodson, and his biggest pro rival is Brady.
But it takes nothing away from either of those two athletes to recognize that Peyton is playing brilliant football. Don't let college prejudices prevent you from appreciating this. Bashing Peyton is like a Renaissance-era Florentine sneering at Michelangelo because they happen to prefer da Vinci.

I have him on my fantasy team and thanks to him I am 4-0. He better keep this up so I can win my league and talk shit for the next year. Doesn't hurt having Megatron and AJ Green as well.

Where does this group of pass catchers rank all-time? The combination of Thomas, Decker, Welker, and Julius Thomas is just not fair.  Very talented group that compliment each other very nicely.

Harrison, Wayne, Garcon, and Clark was probably a bit better. Two Hall of Fame wideouts, Pro Bowl TE, and a young Garçon as his 4th option. I actually think Manning's most incredible trait is his ability to produce regardless of his receiving corps. He made Clark a star; Clark has turned into a nobody is the last 3 years. Blaire White had a good season or two. Anthony Gonzalez. Etc.

I got my tickets yesterday! Damn I can't wait to see the Cowboys get their asses handed to them by Peyton. Ticket prices are double what I pay for a normal game though so he better throw for about 6 TDs.

are a little scewed by the 7 TDs in week one. Last 2 weeks Brees put up better numbers. I don't think we have to worry about Peyton breaking Brady's TD record... Hopefully

Even with this being OT, I'm not really sure why it is posted here instead of, you know, a Broncos/pro football blog.

But yeah, he's an amazing player having a great year.  But let's see how those numbers look when it gets cold and he takes a couple of hits.  I figure he'll still be good, but this is prone to slow down.

Also the NFLs penchant to throw flags when you even look at receivers now.  The tictac PI, holding or defenseless receiver flags happen way too much.

For anyone who may have missed it, Grantland ran an interesting article that discussed Peyton's work ethic. He and Eli spent the spring "going back to basics", with their college coach, David Cutcliffe.

Coach Cutcliffe begins training QBs by first teaching defensive schemes. The purpose being that this allows the QB to understand the strengths and weaknesses of these schemes.

Clearly this return to basics has helped Peyton this year, not so much for Eli.
