True frosh on the road - I don't think they trust him yet, especially in pass protection.

Shouldn't UConn really have punted? They had two timeouts. They could have gotten the ball back with a stop.
September 21st, 2013 at 11:28 PM ^
after the sack, the clock would have run while the punt team runs on the field. i would have punted but for that.

We're gonna survive.... and then over the bye week we are gonna practice so hard you guys... and get so so so much better... like way better than tonight.... like good enough to maybe even beat Minnesota maybe

Thank God for that previous penalty!
September 21st, 2013 at 11:31 PM ^
Keep in mind, we would have had guys playing at the first down marker no matter what. It's not like that defense specially calls for the free safety to be exactly 30 yards downfield at all times.

It sounds like you are saying that we get absolutely no better as a team the rest of the season? A little pessimistic perhaps? Of course, it seems like a majority of the posts on this board follow that trend.

Whelp. We are not good. Thankfully we can finally put to bed the BS "they just weren't mentally prepared" meme that reared it's ugly head after the Akron game. Without significant O-Line improvement, I just can't see how we win more than 2 or three games against the B1G.
September 21st, 2013 at 11:40 PM ^
Yeah, there were a lot of rationalizations floating around last week, and I guess that's preferable to some of the stuff I've read. But clearly Akron wasn't a fluke. It was indicative of wider problems. We have to get better, plain and simple. The good news is that great QB play can still overcome a lot of other issues, so IF Devin gets back into his zone, there are a lot of crappy conference teams waiting around to lose to us in spite of the past two games.

It's a lot like recruit rankings, sure there are 2-stars that make it to the pros, and 5-stars that flame out... but statistically, 5-stars are more likely to be college/pro studs.
So moving away from college degrees, how many chemical equations have you balanced in under 5 seconds while four 6'4", 280+ lbs chemists were physically chasing you? Surely you've tried if you feel split second decision making while under extreme, physical pressure is the true measure of a person's intelligence.

Lack of situational awareness during a high level sporting event is not enough to determine that someone is "a dumb person" or "not an intelligent individual." I'm sure there are plenty of nobel laureates who would make bad decisions with a football when being chased by college D-lineman.
Your lack of awareness that Devin might be an incredibly intelligent person despite making a few bad decisions on the football field does not make you a "dumb person"... it just makes you a socially awkward douchebag who may or may not be intelligent.

1) This argument is dumb. 2) I paid my own way through Michigan with zero help... so your argument is dumb 3) Devin Gardner is a fresh QB. People forget this all the time. He has less than a full year of games under his belt as starter. We expected him to come out like someone who has started for 3 years... that is just not going to happen.

Its good we won but that hurt let's be honest. I have drunk a bottle of pinot grigio to myself and a little bit of the hubby's pinot noir. This was way to close for freaking people with huskies on their helmats! Omg

Let's be honest, Michigan looked like the Lions tonight. The sheer amount of seemingly stupid mistakes that the team committed made it seem like they were trying to hand the game away. But I still believe that it's not all doom and gloom. Michigan still won a game despite turning over the ball four times. Yea turnovers are bad, but almost all of them were the self mistake variety, which means its correctable. This was also the first road game for a young team with a lot of new contributors. Even though it was UConn, it was a UConn team that basically centered its season around this game, aka the Michigan State effect. The offensive line needs improvement, however we have a a bye to straighten things out and make adjustments personnel wise. I don't think they are as bad as last year. And above all else, Nebraska has looked just as vulnerable as ever, Northwestern has looked shaky these past two weeks, Michigan State is still playing around with their QBs (Maxwell lol), and although Ohio looks good, they've played weak opponents and anything can happen over the course of the season (Remember, they did play them pretty good last year in the shoe before Borges took over). I'm concerned, but not panicking about this team just yet.
