OT UNIFORMZ: 17 Reasons we could have done worse

Disagree, those are some of the best uniforms. Better than what we've worn as alternate uniforms for sure. Air Force and BYU are the only boring ones, which seem to suite your taste, so I'm surprised those were included in the list.

Not hotel rooms, I was referring to a location in an office building obviously.

Some of those are really good uniforms, but of course some are indeed awful.

I was expressing a clusterfuck of a clown show but they've got some good uniforms on that list. Nebraska's and UCLA's, in particular, I liked.

They actually missed some of the worst ones. The leprechaun helmet for Notre Dame? How is that not on anyone's top 1 list?

The University of Maryland uniforms coming in at #1 was no surprise.
The general rule of simpler = better seems to be forgotten in many of these uniform designs. It's as if they are trying to dance up to the line between bold and outrageous, and in many cases waltzing over the line by a few feet.

A lot of them might not look great at first glance, but some have some historical significance and make some kind of reference to their specific states, which I think is cool. I really like the Iowa State's classic look and I'm amazed they are the first one to use the vertical stripes again. That was a "thing" everyone did back in the day, even Michigan.

So that's what happened to all the otters.

Is Tennessee really going to wear those for the 2013 season?

I could be way off base, of course, but Indiana previewed those helmets in June and they still remind me of the song "The Candyman Can" from "Willy Wonka" for some reason...
Zone Left mentioned it, but I agree - it's hard to miss the ND "leprechaun" helmets. Truly, an awful, awful idea.

I don't get how we're the "premier customer," or whatever they coined it, for Adidas if they continue to update the physical design of their uniforms yet delay giving them to Michigan. Our new uniforms last year were released to many teams, including UCLA, the year before. Every other Adidas client also had normal looking jerseys while we wore shrink wrapped tarp for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. You can see their newly updated stiching on the UCLA and Tennesee uniforms in the link.
I get that it's not a huge deal now that we finally got normal looking ones, but it's worth asking what the "*YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST*" clause in the contract is in there for if we're not getting their top of the line stuff. Unless there's some co-pay on the Athletic Department's end, I don't see why we would reject updated jersey constructions.

I remember midway through the 2011 season Hoke complained that the new style uniforms where being pulled too easily by the oposing defenses making it easier to tackle our players, so the team switched to the 2010 style uniforms for the rest of the season, and I believe also for 2012.

Editing led to a double post on my part? Weirdness.

You're correct that happened. Those were the original "TechFit" uniforms. They had no seams so they apparently couldn't be grabbed that way (they had a promotional video explaining this). They also tore and suffocated lineman, and oh yeah, did the exact opposite of what they advertised. We dumped those two years ago and got what was then the latest model of uniforms last year.

"Yeah, in the past we've definitley had some crappy uniformz in the past."
So, have they been in the past?

Am I the only one that thinks those black Nebraska uniforms are great, almost better than their normal ones?
EDIT: Aside from the typeface on the numbers. If those were their normal typeface, the uniforms would be better than the originals in my opinion.

Someone should start an internet poll to determine which team has the best uniforms. And then another poll for best helmet. Internet users could vote and then there would be a definitive best.

The big winner in all of this is Penn State. I'm old enough to remember when their unis were considered boring and dorky to everyone but a handful of old guys.
Now they are very trendy because of thier simplicity in comparison to the uniformz craze.
Stick with what you do best if you are really good at it. It will eventually become cool. Chasing trends is for losers.

In my opinion, the Miami (NTM) uniforms are the only really terrible ones on here. A lot of the uniforms on here are trendy for the sake of being trendy, which isn't my cup of tea, but don't look that terrible. Plus, they missed the uniform that is objectively the most overdesigned, poorly-thought-out sack of crap out there - Southern Miss's new uniforms:

Most were pretty bad but I actually really liked a few of them
Didn't care for Air Force, Princeton, Notre Dame, UCLA, Tennessee, BYU, Iowa State, Wyoming, and Maryland. The rest were either tolerable or even likable.
August 29th, 2013 at 5:38 PM ^
Still to this day I do not understand all the hate for Maryland's uniforms. I actually sort of like them.
August 29th, 2013 at 5:50 PM ^
Agree, I think they are pretty bad ass. I don't understand why people are so opposed to Marylan wearing uniforms based on their state coat of arms. I think it's lot more interesting than the stupid Terrapin with a generic block M.
August 29th, 2013 at 6:51 PM ^
Iowa State's have historical context, and Air Force's are tasteful. The rest of them are just awful.

...who cares? If I made a list, it shouldn't get linked. Neither should this guys. Not like it's a fan vote, ESPN, or someone who's opinion people give a damn about.

Are not bad uniforms at all? Those are just the new Adidas uniforms. You won't even notice it until you're up close. Idk how this is any difference from the Nike uniforms with the gel-like substance on the collar...

I'm a fan of Uniformz. I appreciate that programs are trying to modernize the sport. The ones Adidas gave us were obviously terrible, save for the Outback bowl, which were pretty sweet IMO. Am I in the minority here, or are the people who are opposed to uniforms just a very vocal minority?
