Media Day photos feat. Derrick Green's guns & Dan Ferrigno's tounge

Wow...do some research before you speak. Everyone is all worried about a kid who is naturally big with a big frame. He had to drop weight to get to 240 for petes sake.
Green will never be a ripped looking guy because his body type won't allow it. As long as he can keep his feet and his stamina isn't a concern he will be fine.
I'd bet he played at 230 his senior year if not more and was fine. He was fine at the AA game and I'll bet he'll be fine here.
Not every RB in the world is going to be some cut up adonis when you look at them.

I have been reading this blog for years and I am not an avid poster. I read a lot of intelligent things by viewers, but I also read a lot of silly things. Your response makes no sense. At the Army All-American Game he weighed in at 220. Look a picture of him then (8 months ago) then now, big difference.
Yes, he did struggle with his weight in high school. He did not start until he lost the weight to get to 220. He never played anywhere near 240 or 230 for that matter. If you are going to bash another comment please make it intelligent

Where did you read that Green weighed in at 220 at the Army Bowl?
August 11th, 2013 at 8:04 PM ^
His bio on the website. Like I said before, I hope im wrong. I was hoping he would come in and make a difference this year. I am dissapointed with how he arrived on campus, but he has pleantly of time to get game ready. As a former football player, I was just staing my opinion on his current weight and shape. This is my last response on the topic.

Ahh yes...the always reliable guys from these AA games that would never fudge numbers to make all these kids look like supermen.
Do you also believe all skill position players run 4.3 to 4.38 40's as well?

You mean the website of the Army All-American Bowl? The one that happens to have the same measurements as Rivals? The website of the all-star game that was affiliated with Rivals?
Hmm, how strange that he weighed exactly the same at the USAAAB as he did on Rivals... We all know how people's weight stays static, and they never gain or a lose a pound, right?

That pic of Dayne was strecthed and actually made him look smaller. Here's the original image:

I dunno, looks about the same to me.

I don't think it's that people expect him to look like Adrian Peterson, but people saw pics of him in high school and he simply doesn't appear to be as lean any longer. That doesn't mean he won't lean out some, can't still be effective at his current weight, or anything in between. But, he has been leaner in the past and that is the point, albeit an overemphasized one.

You're not the one who determines good weight and bad weight, especially from two pictures. Remember the Eddie Lacy photos? Why should anyone believe you on this?

You have been watching people that are assembled the wrong way.

Well, he's only a freshman. Barring injury, he'll get some carries. If his weight is bad for his game, he won't get the carries and lesson learned. However, I can't remember the last time I saw a college RB with a belly like that except for Dayne.

"Fat and out of shape" is a strong way to describe him. I think he could probably shed about five pounds or so, but that's the case for just about everyone. I don't think people who are five pounds overweight count as being "fat and out of shape."

So is Lewan. His arms are GIGANTIC. Kalis looks solid too.
August 11th, 2013 at 8:23 PM ^
If he doesn't drop a considerable amount of weight in the next month due to all the conditioning they're doing, then we'll know it was probably good weight.
August 11th, 2013 at 8:35 PM ^
Fat and out of shape???? Running backs come in all shapes and sizes-He was never cut up. He may need to shed 5-10lbs but he could play right now at 240 and be productive-So chill out

He's standing closer to the photographer than anyone, and his arms are smaller than just about every other guy's in the picture.

It would be a shame if Jeremy Gallon lost a step and Amarah Darboh doesn't live up to the hype. Also it would be a shame if Taylor Lewan is looking ahead to the NFL and is afraid of getting injured and Kyle Kalis turns out to be overrated. I can play this game too. There is no indication that either of those things will happen, so it's a totally meaningless statement.

He's making fun of the "would be a shame if..." sentiment.
August 11th, 2013 at 9:50 PM ^
What he said does make sense, because Green is overweight right now.
August 12th, 2013 at 11:15 AM ^
I'm not seeing what everyone else is seeing. Does Green actually look fat? I just figured it was where the photo cuts off (before his knees) and the way he's standing (looks like he's in mid-walk) and the fact that his shirt is untucked. It's not like he's pulling a BWC and his gut is poking out of his shirt.
Seriously, look at the group shot. If Green's fat, Rawls is fatter.
August 11th, 2013 at 7:51 PM ^
He looks close to 6 ft. So yes please!

You don't need to play the position at the level the person in question does to be able to look at a guy's frame and tell if he's added body fat since last year or not. These powers come from pure observation and simply comparing how a guy looks in one set of pictures or videos to another.

I never thought Deveon had a serious shot at getting more than 11% of the carries until now. He could very well pass Green. I think they're even.
August 11th, 2013 at 8:16 PM ^
I mean hell...Lendale White played at 235 with no trouble at all, you can look at his pictures in college and claim he needed to drop a few lbs.
From what I remember he was fine as could be. People who think Borges wants to go with a one back Leveon Bell style workload are out of their mind.
August 11th, 2013 at 9:53 PM ^
Borges has said again and again that he prefers to have one running back carry the load, rather than splitting carries. We just haven't been able to do that yet. It will never be the number of carries Bell had, because we can run a balanced offense.
August 11th, 2013 at 10:11 PM ^
In Borges' six seasons at Auburn and SDSU, the primary back averaged 55% of RB carries. They never exceeded 67% (Ronnie Hillman in '2010).
LeVeon Bell tallied 89% of MSU's carries. That is all kinds of insane.
August 12th, 2013 at 9:43 AM ^
I guess his words don't necessarily match his actions then. I'd prefer to get all of our stud RB's some carries, but whatever wins games...
