What are things that Manti Te'o says?
January 21st, 2013 at 11:35 PM ^
I think all the super duper excitement over Rodney Davis is the reason Twitter's been down today.

Guy has a picture of Michigan, MSU, Nebreska, Syracuse and Ball State letters on his twitter page.

With Michigan in the Final Four. This looks like a match my family attended. Bunch of the basketball guys were there. All the freshman and THJ, iirc.

He is saying it's a half scholarship, and he will be working out for the coaches next week.
Not too sure what a half scholarship really means ... they gonna give the other half to someone else?
January 22nd, 2013 at 12:04 AM ^
counts as a full scholarship, as it's deemed a "head count" sport. Sports like hockey and softball are called "equivalency sports" and split a given number of scholarships amongst a higher limit (or no limit) of athletes.
January 22nd, 2013 at 2:14 AM ^
I'm not sure about that. Ganted its D2, but I know schools like Grand Valley, Wayne State, Ferris State, have fewer scholarships to give, so they compensate by breaking up the scholarships and giving out only partial ones. They routinly have classes over 25-27 kids, all of which are receiving some kind of scholarship. Same thing for other sports; I was offered a partial scholarship to run cross country at the D2 level. I don't see how it would be different at the D1 level unless there is a special rule for football, which wouldn't surprise me.
January 22nd, 2013 at 2:21 AM ^
Sorry, I wasn't thinking of the lower football levels (since it wouldn't apply to M). FCS is an equivalency sport and gets 63 scholarships split 85 ways, for example. D2 gets 36 scholarships, and it looks like no overall limit. For Mens XC/Track, D1 and D2 allow 12.6 scholarships split up any way the coach wants to do it. On the other hand, MBB, WBB, FBS Football, W Gymnastics, W Tennis and W (indoor) Volleyball can't split up scholarships and do full rides up to a hard limit, such as 85 for FBS Football.
Here's a Wikipedia link for Division 1; "Scholarship Limits by Sport" is the relevant headline, with FCS under Division 1 Equivalency. This PDF has scholarship rules from D1, D2 and NAIA.

Just from a quick search on mgoblue.com, it says the volleyball season ended in December... How could he have been at the volleyball game on his visit today? BUSTED
Edit: Dammit beaten by 2 min

Yep, and the Illinois game that picture is from was on Oct. 10. Yeeesh, this looks verrrrry suspect.

I threw both of you five points. Him for the cool first post and you for being encouraging to a new guy (or gal) because it's something that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Valid for one year; don't spend them all in one place.
