We should be fine. I think Kalis and Bosch will have the guard spots locked up for the next four or five years. Dawson would've been in a dog fight with Braden, Fox, Magnuson, and LTT.
October 14th, 2012 at 6:56 PM ^
Well, Dawson is viewed as a guard, so wouldn't he have been in the dog fight with Kalis and Bosch? Either way, the program won't suffer any setbacks because of this.

Wish the kid the best; this happens. Haven't heard much about him recently, but that could have been a sign.
October 14th, 2012 at 1:55 PM ^
well this puts a damper on my morning

I just talked with Allen Trieu
yep he's going to florida
October 14th, 2012 at 2:03 PM ^
It really sucks, and I like what I am seeing so far from fans, but I really hope people take this well. Meaning no tweets at him unless they are to wish him well. I have no problem with a kid taking time to make a decision. Hell I am doing that with what job I am going to take and I am years older than this kid.
So good luck to him, hope he ends up back at Michigan, but I hope that he does well whereever he goes.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:13 PM ^
I have no problem with a kid taking time to make a decision either. That's what Treadwell is doing. That's not what Dawson did. This is the equivalent of you accepting a job offer, them canceling future prospect interviews, and then you calling back and being like "oh nevermind, I want to look around some more". If you do that, that job is most definitely not going to be available to you anymore. Similarly, Michigan will move on. We will not see Dawson in this class.
I understand that choosing a school is a big deal, and I understand that there's a lot of pressure to commit early, but it's not okay to just change your mind and back out. The coaches go to great pains to stress to recruits that they shouldn't commit unless they are 100%. Honorable behavior stipulates that you wait until you're certain, so you don't eat up a spot that could be filled with someone that will actually stay committed.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:03 PM ^
No question he is florida bound....oh well. Good luck to him onward and upward from here.
Still have a huge recruiting weekend to look forward to.

We can't blame him for visiting. Years ago I wanted to attend UF as well. Then I visited Gainesville and realized I didn't want to spend four years in that town.
Best of luck to the young man either way. His story is a tearjerker.

Me too. One winter in Ann Arbor was super cold, and the girls on the Florida brochure looked so good. But, I stayed and loved it. My gf is from Florida, but she could care less about football. I always liked Muchamp and Spurrier. Hated Meyer though.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:12 PM ^
I thought Gainesville was beaches and babes, but it turned out to be cows and fields. Plus I wanted a top notch academic school so Ann Arbor was the easy choice.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:38 PM ^
Florida is not bad academically, not Michigan. But, Gainsville is pretty country.
October 14th, 2012 at 9:57 PM ^
People think Florida is all beaches and plam trees. Most of it looks like Indiana.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
This kid has been on my nerves for a while with all his commit watchs.. Fuck him and the fact he thinks hes a future legend..( You havent done shit kid) I hope SC puts a beat down on the gators...also, I could care less if hes a kid in high school...Kid plays to many games
October 14th, 2012 at 2:07 PM ^
Hope it didn't take you too long to get those 170 points.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:08 PM ^
Boom negative comment, bound to be a couple of people.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:15 PM ^
Hope you have your passport and bags packed for your one way trip to Bolivia.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:18 PM ^
The kid's Dad died this year, he can do whatever he wants and football isn't everything.
P.S. Have fun in Bolivia!

I leave the corpse of your point total by the side of the road as a warning.
Go ahead. Say one more thing.

47%! Why so little time? Brian would be disappointed. The Blog. The Blog. The Blog.

I know we're still rebuilding the depth on O-Line, so do we go after another O-Lineman or does this open up a spot for McQuay?
October 14th, 2012 at 10:01 PM ^
I really want McQuay. A lockdown man-to-man secondary lets Mattison the Mad Scientist do some crazy things with the blitz.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:10 PM ^
I wish Dawson the best.
I am not surprised we lost someone in the class...just surprised that it was Dawson.
October 14th, 2012 at 10:06 PM ^
Considering he is from Michigan and plays for Cass, it is pretty surprising. When you think about it, he did want to visit before and did actually schedule a visit until he cancelled it after talking with the coaches.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:20 PM ^
as success at the position is very difficult to judge at the next level.
Just gives Michigan another opportunity at another lineman or skilled player.
I wouldn't worry at all and ify ou are worried, just pound another beer. It should help kill someo f the pain you are feeling.

Honestly he's a bit undersized for what this coaching staff is looking at for guard. Wouldn't be surprised if Hoke outright pulled the scholly. Now we can slide fox and bosch inside and grab Pocic as a second tackle.

The coaching staff has informed him that they will no longer be pursuing him so it appears as though the scholarship offer has been revoked.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:47 PM ^
EDIT: Sorry, I did not see this was already posted on the front page.
Comment from Mr. Dawson on twitter:
Would like to wish the university of Michigan the best of luck ..nothing against anybody associated with that program

I don't think DG and DD are anything more than twitter friends. They met at the BBQatBH, so there isn't any extensive personal relationship in which DG will base an incredibly important decision on DD. JMO

With the way things are going, twitter friends might be a significant thing.

to David and to UM. I know both will do well.

I graduated from Florida
Or
I graduated from The University of Michigan!!!
Wow when it sounds like this Florida sounds like a JC. Lol

Wonder what would happen in a situation like this if the kid took other visits, then decided he was ready to commit to us again, agreeing to not take any more visits? Is the door left open or is the seperation permanent?

UF is an excellent school in both academics and sports. It is a member of the AAU. In my view and those that rate colleges (national and internationally), U of M holds an advantage, but not by much.
UF's campus and surrounding area is AA like. Each school has acedemic and regional advantages. For instance 100% of UF's accounting graduates secured employment last year. A UF student may also have a regional advanteage in securing employment in the southeastern states. So with UF you get a SEC conference school with academic excellences with regional advantages.
With UM, it is more of a nationally recognized institution with a nationally recognized sports program.
You really cannot go wrong with either choice.
October 14th, 2012 at 4:39 PM ^
At the undergrad level I don't think there's much differentiation period. Different schools use the same textbooks and teach the same basic content. By the time you start work you forget all the specifics that you would get from the classes being harder. I think the main differentiation between institutions happens at the graduate level, because then things start getting more resource constrained and only certain schools have big professors doing research.
October 14th, 2012 at 4:18 PM ^
I don't follow thing closely enough to have known of his apparent affection for UF and their players instead of ours, but I've been saying all along that we were going to have at least one high-profile decommit before signing day. It's an inevitable by-product of so many kids committing so early. You hate to lose a local kid, but at least he won't be playing elsewhere in the conference.
Michigan isn't right for everybody, and not everybody is right for Michigan.
October 14th, 2012 at 4:54 PM ^
I can't say that I'm extremely disappointed, though I took a lot of flak when I wrote his commitment post.
October 14th, 2012 at 5:18 PM ^
I like your review much better this time. Makes me feel a little better about the news.
October 14th, 2012 at 5:24 PM ^
Maybe Hoke reads your blog and that is why he pulled the offer.
